PRESS X TO ESPEN I wanted to like this. A horror game inspired by Norse mythology sounds like something I'd be into, but it just doesn't come together. The visuals are a big problem: low-quality textures, empty environments, and some rendering effects that aren’t just bad, but straight-up broken. Horror games need atmosphere, and this one never fully pulls you in. The story tries to tackle serious themes, but it does so clumsily. The protagonist is hard to connect with—not just unlikeable,…

How this game was made on a budget of $43,833 baffles me, it has some awful voicework and overall terrible execution in just about every aspect. It's a full blown scam full price since it barely even takes 2 hours to complete, the ending is rushed but the story is very boring so not that important. There are thousands of better indie horror games out there for a fraction of the price. TL;DR Save some money and buy literally any other indie horror game. Kickstarter scammers

This game could've been awesome if not for the crappy subpar voice acting, the completely unnecessary addition of some weird sob story from a very unlikable and unrelatable female protagonist and her whiny drivel all the way through. The voice acting and word choices made things even worse. The pages with some random stuff/mythology written on them were pretty interesting and the creatures were too, the environment wasn't too bad even if it's just a walking simulator. Hell, even the animations…

ONLY RECOMMEND IT DURING A SALE! I will start off right with the store page of this game. A whole bunch of awards are mentioned, and well, it just gets to show how utterly dog crap those things are if this game got them. Let me start off right with the main character, she is so un-likeable. Basically, she screwed up her own life, lied, blamed others, and it takes a whole drama journey to make her realize. It was ok at first, but the more you advance in the story, the more you will know about…

Decent enough walking sim with some lite horror elements. Through the Woods has solid voice acting and a surprisingly good story that comes together towards the end. The optimization is quite bad and there are near constant FPS crashes and stuttering, but the game is slow paced enough to where they aren't a huge deal. This game leans pretty heavily into Norse mythology, so if you are a fan of that this should be up your alley. I explored a good bit and got a lot of achievements and I finished…

Its a nice short experience. Took me almost 5 hours. i hate the main character. not because she was written bad but for choices she made with her son and his dad. no spoilers but the game managed to keep me engaged. Also liked that you only have to deal with each monster once besides the trolls but theyre the easiest to deal with. all in all id give it a 7/10 maybe an 8 but i really hated the main character what a ♥♥♥♥♥

I sadly weren't able to really follow the story. A lot of reading and not really getting into it. You're trying to get your son back who got kidnapped by a pedo. It is definitley a walking sim. I enjoyed seeing the mythological vaessens but... that was it. I thought it was hard to tell where to go, places where you could move and couldn't looked quite similar.

Through the Woods was a really good game. I've had it in my library for a while. I kept putting it off because of some of the reviews on performance. But I'm glad I finally played. Norse mythology is very fascinating to me so I enjoyed it. It is a walking sim. The story was really good and the acting was great. The soundtrack was phenomenal and really helped to set the ambiance in the forest. The story still sticks with me days later after having finished. Highly recommend.

What a game ! Nordic mythology, sound, graphics, music, everything is at the top level. But the atmosphere of the game is what gets under your skin, there were times where I was terrified, and I'm not easily scared. This is something like Alan Wake, but without the weapons, you only have a flashlight... If you love atmospheric horror, play this game, in a darkened room with amplified headphones, and explore, you will be grateful to me later! 10/10

I REALLY wanted to like this game, but sadly it was a pain to get through. - The second I came to a village I started lagging like CRAZY. Had to turn down all my graphic settings from high to low. The issue dissapeared when I went in to the woods again and came back again when houses appeared. - SO MUCH walking in the woods. Holy F... - Monsters are TOO slow and hiding from them is almost impossible. Meeting the troll, the wolves and the zombies was horrible. Wanted to pull my hair out. - Being…

Walking through the Woods - Buy it, when it's on sale. 20€ is a bit much Story A Story around a lost son and norse mythology. Pretty interessing. It contains some dark themes and horror elements, but I would regard it as pretty light horror. Suitable for players, who normally shy away from horror games. 8/10 Gameplay You mostly walk around and follow the linear story. Here and there you use your flashlight. Simple. Graphics It looks really dated, especially the characters and water. But…

Oof… I guess this game just wasn’t for me. I was really intrigued by the Norse mythology and expected some proper spooky moments along the way. Instead, it mostly felt like a walking simulator. There wasn’t much to do beyond moving forward and looking for items and notes. On top of that, my experience was pretty laggy and glitchy, which didn’t help at all. Sadly, this one just didn’t click for me, and I can’t really recommend it.

it's a buggy and janky mess. the va was unbearable at times (well most of the time tbh) for me chapter 2 was the worst, it would not load into the next scene multiple times. don't get me started on the shadows issues, destroyed the scenery which is the best part of the game. the third person perspective was not a good idea. didn't care about any of the characters, the two wolves were the most interesting tbh. the entire 'story' is just.. meh at best

Fun to play. It's basically walking Through the Woods. The trolls (as shown in trailer) aren't hard to pass by. There aren't really any puzzles as well. Mostly walking and exploring. However, the kind of atmosphere it creates, with the monsters and the overall Norse theme, is wonderful and can become thrilling at times. Music design is also very very good. Liked it!

The best way to experience this game is to go in fully blind. That's what I was doing. It came as part of a package of three games and I had no idea what it was about. All I knew was that it's horror and something with woods so I was interested. When I started, I was pretty bored at first, expecting that it's just a completely linear walking sim about a mother who runs into the woods, reads a few notes and tries to find her son. It basically is exactly that, a linear walking sim with…

"Through the Woods" offers a captivating dive into Norwegian mythology, making its storyline one of the game's strong points. As a fan of folklore, I enjoyed how the narrative unfolded, exploring themes deeply rooted in Norsk culture. Everything taken from Norse Mythology is very well done and - to my understanding - very faithful to it's source! Through the Woods, developed by Antagonist and published by Fulqrum Publishing, is a slow-burning psychological horror experience that draws deeply from Scandinavian folklore while grounding its story in a very human emotional struggle. The game places players in the role of Karen, a mother searching for her missing son after a strange and unsettling abduction. Rather than rushing into conventional horror tropes, it carefully builds a sense of dread through isolation, ambiguity, and a creeping…

Through the Woods is a third-person narrative horror game inspired by Scandinavian folklore, following a mother searching for her missing son in a dark, unsettling forest. Gameplay is simple and sometimes rough around the…

I usually enjoy a lot of indie games, i am not saying this game is bad. It is just that i pretty much did not enjoy it. It feels pretty empty, the plot feels lame. The walking, environment and creatures are pretty interesting and within the idea of viking mythical creatures. I rate 7/10, but for an indie game i do not recommend buyin it. Note: It is also pretty easy to complete in 3-4 hours.

However the little annoyances keep the scares away, IMO. - Voice actor for the child is not the best - A few visual defects here and there - Story is not the best, however the lore is really good - Atrocious visual quality dips (water is completely flat, texture for humans looks unnatural, etc)

"Through the woods" is an interesting and suitably creepy game. Not a great, "must play" game but definitely worthy of respect for what started out as a school project (or so the comments in the credits say).
