If you check some old YT videos you would see it is quite easy ( there is only one difficulty level in the game ) to beat the colonel. But they made it difficult for no good reason. Sorry unless this is changed I can not recommend this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →• Game has no ending (cliffhanger) • The text are too slow and there is no option to increase their speed, and if you click it just skip the whole sentence. • The combats feel like a chore ( I ended just running thru the levels skipping enemies fight) • Character climbing isn't consistant • The chases are just scripted sequence where you have to reach the end of the level, you cannot catch the quarries.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run is a fast-paced action platformer with a satisfying melee combat style and some nicely detailed levels with a lot of exploration. The story is also entertaining enough to keep me interested. Sadly, there is a bug in the The Anvil level that makes it impossible for me to proceed. You are on a moving platform where you have to use the grappling ability to proceed, and the game just stops registering key presses for it there. Neither keyboard and mouse nor controller will work…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run does not quality for a good platformer in my opinion, there are some famous and popular games out there you don't need me to name any. However, what kept me playing and finally finished it was the art design, the music and to the end I even got emotional knowing the truth of the story. More specifically, as a platformer I can hardly give it positive - there are some good action part like smart jump/dash combo, but the battles feels dull and not fun, there are not enough enemies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Woah! They Always Run is truly an underrated gem! Eye-catching visuals and fascinating story, which starts slowly, but spirals up to a poignant, very powerful ending... Too bad we're not getting a proper sequel any time soon. That said, for most of the time I was playing it, the game was 'okaaay, but...". Many people say the battle part was underdeveloped, but hey, it's just not as mind-blowing as in My Friend Pedro. Also, a minor gripe to some players, item drops from enemies are randomized,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a cool little Sci-Fi platformer and another indie banger by Alawar. I played the more recent NercroSmith and Wall World by the same dev and was blown away by the amazing pixel art. They Always Run is a bit older than those games but still the amazing art style can be clearly seen. For a platformer it was on the easier side, that's not a bad thing. The movements and pathing was clearly communicated to the player, how to say this, the "linearity" of this linear game was felt.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slight spoiler for the story, but it's the main reason for the negative review. The combat can feel a bit floaty and imprecise at times, but it was never gamebreaking or overly painful for me. The story and especially the art were what made this game standout, though. Despite that, the game builds up only to end abruptly in the second act after a big plot twist and getting a new ability you only use once. It has been nearly four years since release and still no update on a sequel. Would…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a good try by the devs. Maybe if they make a sequel, they'll make a good game. The good: - The combat, while a bit janky at times, is fast, exciting, and pretty fun. - When you're in the groove, the platforming is pretty smooth. The bad: - This is a game that's unfair. There's no way to replay missions so if you missed something important, too bad, you have to restart the whole game. You also can't freely buy upgrades whenever you want, only between some missions. - This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a pretty interesting presentation with beautiful backgrounds and detailed environments but the gameplay is just weird and plain. I kept getting the same configuration over and over, a couple of goons, a couple of shield goons and a gunner. You want to sort of enjoy the parry and 3rd arm combat mechanics but you can't really until you kill the damn sniper because if not you need to keep dodging shots every 2 seconds. It feels grating, not challenging. Then they did that thing where…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice atmosphere, nice character design but the gameplay is too hardcore. Enemy can kill the player in few hits. And the enemy sniper keep aim at the player, ready to fire. I keep dying in the same spot.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent around four hours with this game, but ultimately the controls became so frustrating that I lost any desire to finish it. By that point, I was skipping all story dialogue out of sheer boredom, worsened by the lack of any engaging presentation. The platforming sections tended to highlight weaknesses in the level design, inconsistent controller input, and unintuitive character movement, rather than creating a sense of control or enjoyment. They should have either focused entirely on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trash pretentious action platformer with crazy bad checkpoint system that doesn't refill your health, so you can easily get softlocked from a level when you reach a boss checkpoint and have little health left.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That’s They Always Run finished! A beautiful game that I was totally absorbed in. I’m actually sad to see it go.
unlabelledView post →7/10 Loved this game! The mechanics and pacing were awesome. There were some glitches here and there, but nothing game-breaking. Also the ENDING was incredibly abrupt and while the story for said ending was cool, HOW it ended was just... not great. Honestly, they should've just let us finish the rest of the story instead of hint at a sequel when the pacing and content of the story doesn't really have room for a sequel. Otherwise, great game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Until It Breaks—Steer Clear I wanted to love They Always Run—and for the 8 hours I sank into it, I really did. The slick bounty-hunter action, cool art, and tight controls had me hooked. It’s got a lot going for it, and I’d have plenty of good to say if it weren’t for one massive problem: a crippling bug in a boss fight that’s a total game-ender. You’re stuck, unable to progress, and it’s not just me—tons of players have reported it. I even switched operating systems to dodge it, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Janky controls, poorly designed difficulty spikes with major setbacks, and a camera so stiff it will make you feel sick. It's beautiful to look at with some very creative mechanics, but at the moment they all need some serious tuning for me to recommend.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend grabbing this when it's on sale. Despite how beautiful this game looks, it doesn't match in playability, I'll explain, Combat can be very fun but there's an ability called the third arm that is used as sort of a heavy attack that gets recharged every time you deflect a shot from an enemy. This is great and all, but in order to activate it, you have to hold down the RB on your controller while moving your right analog stick in the direction you wish to use it. With fast paced…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very underrated game, great animations, great art, great story, interesting gameplay features, even pretty funny, just feels like it ran out of budget and finished the story early. If a little more was done i think the game could have had a lot more people playing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run is a narrative driven cinematic platformer sadly held back from true greatness by some frustrating design choices and clunky gameplay elements. With an instantly striking visual style, you will be drawn in to this space-western by the appealing designs of the characters and locations. Drawing influences from a galaxy far far away, expect desert planets with dusty settlements, gleaming space ports and cyberpunk cities, outposts filled with scum and villainy, hidden rebel bases…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a curious flawed gem this game is! Gorgeous visuals, particularly in terms of animation! Banging soundtrack! Fascinating universe and a fairly interesting story! The pacing is great as no time is wasted on unnecessary filler content. Combat and platforming are both alright when they work, but that's where the game's flaws start to surface: inputs stop working sometimes for no reason, certain abilities only appear to work occasionally and questionably designed boss fights are thrown…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When its on sale for like 2 bucks get it, you won't be dissapointed... unless you expect a sequel of this game which is very unlikely.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man, They Always Run is a beautiful game. 🥲
unlabelledView post →A game with big qualities and even bigger flaws, which makes me think it's probably not finished and lacked testing. But I'll start with the positive. The graphics are outstanding, full of details and in an original art style, especially the animations. (The camera ruins it a bit, but I'll come to that later.) It's interesting that we play as a bounty hunter who can capture his targets alive for bigger rewards, sometimes forcing us to carry their unconscious bodies for a part of the level. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alawar has some great games. This one isn't it. World/atmosphere got me from the start, felt like 'ninja mutant Han Solo' but animations/moves are a bit too stiff to make it work. At least for me. Take into combo not the best checkpoint system and lack of health items and we're going a bit towards tedious rather than challenging.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfinished clunky trash. Don't waste your time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It´s a good game, feels a little retro and made me feel a bit nostalgic. Honestly, it kinda sucks that it is quite short but i think the game has a good balance between complex and simple. The story gets more interesting as you move on but I didn´t quite like the ending
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i don't even know what to say! man i just finished the game and i'm so amazed with the story. i can't stop thinking about it! one of the most stylish games i've ever played and i've played many games! u have many cool ways to kill enemies! performing parry feels so good, shooting feels so great. music just rocks! i really care about the story of the games and i like them to have a solid story, and man this game just surprised me!! definitely recommended! i hope they go for part 2 cuz i really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: 7-/10, do recommend at full price. This is a tentative recommendation. I really like this game but there are a few elements that are incredibly frustrating. The good: It looks incredible. You see the screenshots, it looks like that all the time. It feels amazing in both combat and in horizontal movement. You feel like an acrobatic space hunter in the best possible way. The animations and controls are very smooth. Really good character and environment design. The feel of a space…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There’s a point in the game where the environment harpoon doesn’t work. You’re on this moving platform and you have to use the environment harpoon to break the ball. It doesn’t work and I can’t progress so it’s a no for me honey.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little game, not too long not too short. Just a break from a world that is broken.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh man, the movement is so satisfying, and the visuals are great, but it's not an easy game to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 - Good recommendation Game starts off quite clunky but picks up better the more upgrades you get unlocking smoother movement and combat. Story wise is relatively simple and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Mueller 2nd fight is god awful - You have to lock in like a Dark Souls boss! Smiley was a bit annoying too but at least more fun! The truth reveal at the end... wow!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely fantastic game. Inspiring art, wonderful animation and a nice, linear progression that is carried by a story that picks up a lot of steam by the end. The platforming is overall very good with a nice flow state when you get used to it and the combat is satisfying and punchy. It ends on a cliffhanger and with a unexpected twist that hit some feels for me. Looking forward to a sequel for sure. And yeah the soundtrack is great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's quite a few interesting bits in there, but they're surrounded by a lot of rough. The combat is just not very good. Tough, imprecise, and the saving grace is that checkpoints are very common. The traversal has a similar problem - sometimes the game just decided to be a jerk. Then there's the technical problems. I really struggled to keep the game running at a stable pace. It's really good at ignoring vsync and even dedicated GPU overrides. The only way I could get it to run at a mostly…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is definitely trying to do some spectacle gameplay. It's just not very good at it. The camera always feels a little off, and it zooms in and out in order to show you things and to make you feel like you're missing something when it goes in for extreme closeup of... you running through a very small empty corridor between platforming and combat. The game wants you to know the devs understand that triple-countering is very cool, and it doesn't really work in practice because the shield…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played entirely on the Steam Deck at the default settings with no issues. Playing this game on the deck was a very enjoyable experience. They Always Run is a linear action platformer with great style and combat. This a simple game compared to others out there, but it is very focused. The game knows what it is and what it is trying to do. It's not overly ambitious outside of the art style but it gets all the important stuff right. This was a fun game to play and not overly difficult. There…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat little action platformer. Has a short and interesting story, a decent combat system and good platforming. The problems that generally arise with the game are the visual contrasts. Cons: Text Boxes are generally black on black backgrounds, kind of makes it hard to tell who is talking in certain conversations when the background is black, have a white outline might fix that issue. Having left mouse be your skip button as well, it not working to skip dialogue sometimes is a pain and having a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It looks amazing(apart from the ui) and in my hour of playtime there were moments i really enjoyed myself, sadly the controls feel incredibly clunky and the fighting is often times flat out frustrating,,,,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot going for this game, but inconsistencies with the controls and camera make for an awkward and often frustrating experience.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rocked this on XBOX and now steam! a ruckus cyberpunk with that ole time western touch that niche that scratches the itch, i love playing this while jamming some Lazy Lazer, a cool western meets cyberpunk synthwave artist i found on Youtube which also goes good while playing Dust & Neon
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This AMAAAAAZING game is from a small group of devs. Excellent artwork , mind blowing animation , enjoyable combat and the feel-like-Spiderman parkour will definitely blow your mind. The script feels like it's from a AAA game. Everything abut this game makes it stand out in the crowd of genre its in. Honestly this is a different kind of experience I never expected when I bought this. Absolutely A++ AMAAAZING !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run I think it's my first finished 2D game in recent memory, at least. I didn't play one since Mario Bros. + has a decent story with some memorable characters + fun combat + i loved the art direction + music was good for the most part nothing too crazy. + the plot twists here and there were a nice touch, especially at the end. - no voice actors for the characters; I don't mind reading the dialogues myself, but some human interaction should exist. - the game ends really abruptly -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls felt clunky, simple mobs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry, I can't last to the end. Maybe another time Controlling your third hand separately is a good idea, which feels fresh and fun. The art style is also really nice and adds a lot to the look of the game. But the parkour feels awkward, and the combat isn’t very satisfying. Plus, the story is hard to follow, which makes it a bit confusing. Overall, it’s an interesting idea with good visuals, but the gameplay and story could be better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game just felt so amateurish, which surprised me since these guys had made a hit game previously. From the font to the dialogue to the combat and animations. Even if it was their first project I would rate this poorly but at least have respect for being a decent first attempt. Considering this is not their first game, no. It might be their first game they made in this genre, but it's poor still. I ended up speeding through the second half as the dialogue was bad and I had a soft lock that…

I didn't really like it much at first but toward the end I was liking it more. But then I hit a wall and can't continue because I'm not powered up enough to move forward, get my ass kicked quickly and cant go back to grab some extra life capsules. Worse, I can't go back to spend my 10k in credits to upgrade which is silly. +Nice watercolor style backgrounds. +Awesome soundtrack. +Cool upgrades. +Fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, honestly. The art and music are both great, the world is interesting, but there are a couple things murdering that. The combat is very clunky and refuses to work most of the time, enemies can take upwards of 10-15 hits to kill in some cases. The staggering amount of buttons you have to press (in combat) is ridiculous. And on top of that there is little to no variety in enemy type. If you're really interested in it wait 'till it's on sale, otherwise don't bother.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run looked like a fun game and I was sucked into it for the first stage of the game. Then I kept playing. I enjoy the music and the art style of this game. However that's where my likes for it end. I kept trying to play this game, I spent $6 on it and at least wanted to try to finish it. I lasted 5.9 hours and I cannot stand to play anymore. The platforming isn't really platforming, you follow a painfully linear path that requires pixel perfect positioning or you will not make…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They Always Run is a stylish and fast-paced 2D action game with a futuristic western vibe and hand-drawn visuals that immediately draw you in. The three-armed protagonist offers a unique combat system with dynamic movement and precise attacks, delivering a fresh and entertaining experience for platformer fans.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing fun, great setting and beautiful game art. Story is pretty good, and the combat is satisfying, with lots of cool abilities to unlock.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just completed this game last night and I can mostly recommend this game, I'd say 6.5/10. The art is beautiful, the platforming and combat action are compelling in a limited sense. My biggest problem with this game is the endless reading mandatory dialogue. So much conversational dialogue it really hampers the playthrough. A lot of thought has gone into the world and setting build and story, however I feel that the dialogue writer must have been like the CEO's 16yr old niece or nephew who…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun action platformer that reminded me of the Shinobi games with a bunch of badass ninja action and climbing/jumping goodness, but without the pace breaking navigational puzzles of metroidvanias. A strong point of its gameplay is how often I found myself in the flow of it. (Well, that was until I found any object requiring hitting the LB button, because how those decided to accept the button input I couldn't figure out the whole game, just sometimes it eventually worked.) The action…
