The Warriors
Prominent gang leader Cyrus calls a meeting of New York's gangs to set aside their turf wars and take over the city. At the meeting, a rival leader kills Cyrus, but a Coney Island gang called the Warriors is wrongly blamed for Cyrus' death. Before you know it, the cops and every gangbanger in town is hot on the Warriors' trail. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Fun fact: the director of the Warriors (1979) wanted to have Orson Welles do an over the top dramatic voiceover narration of the entire movie. The real reason Orson Welles didn't do it, was that he was busy at the time starring in the Muppet Movie.
unlabelledView post →while back i heard some guys on a podcast say they never 'got' The Warriors because it 'always seemed a bit ridiculous' and one of them speculated maybe it was 'more realistic' for audiences in the 70s. incredible thoughts to have about a movie featuring a violent gang of baseball clowns

unlabelledView post →I just rewatched The Warriors and even though it's considered a classic now at the time it was barely a step above B-movie exploitation. And when I say the cinematography is gorgeous, I am not joking. Blows 90% of today's big budget films out of the water.
unlabelledView post →Watching The Warriors for the podcast, and I don’t know—is this movie perfect? Maybe? Like, in a very dumb way, it’s perfect.

unlabelledView post →Now watching: ‘The Warriors’, dir. Walter Hill, 1979. The first time I've seen the original version rather than that weird noughties ‘director's cut’ with the cheap digital comic book transitions. 🎬🎥

unlabelledView post →Watched The Warriors on the Miramax Channel last night. Just stumbled across it. Haven't watched it since it was released in 1979! A stylish, but dumb film. Why, these aren't marauding lumpen youth everyone feared in the 1970s, dealing drugs & mugging & raping. They just want to get home!

unlabelledView post →Sunday afternoon movie time. I have the game of The Warriors by Rockstar on my backlog list for this year, and it didn't really feel right to play the game without having seen the movie.
unlabelledView post →On February 9, 1979 (46 years ago), The Warriors opened in 670 theaters. The following weekend, the film was linked to sporadic outbreaks of vandalism and three killings—two in Southern California and one in Boston—involving moviegoers on their way to or from showings.

unlabelledView post →Books to film 📚=🎞️ The Warriors (1965) by Sol Yurick was adapted to film in 1979 & directed by Walter Hill. The film is noted for its thematic gang affiliations (rollerskaters, baseball uniforms etc) & tones down the violence, racial division and sexuality of the novel. 👊🔪 🩸 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →THe Warriors was apparently Ronald Reagan's favorite film and based on his stance on "inner city crime", I can only assume he thought it was some kind of hyper-realistic documentary and not the (affectionately) goofiest fucking movie ever made
unlabelledView post →Definitely in my favourite top 10 movie list: The Warriors 1979
unlabelledView post →We saw The Warriors on an outdoor screen at Coney Island, along with movie cast members. Half the crowd was in gang costumes. Then Sick of It All played.

Day #125 "The Warriors" (Walter Hill/1979) The Warriors, a gang in NYC must fight their way back to Coney Island after being accused of shooting the biggest gang's leader. A blast from beginning to end! Check it out.

unlabelledView post →Two thing: 1) I have been mistakenly saying that The Warriors is an 80s movie and it came out in 1979. 2) The Warriors concept album is pretty fucking great.

unlabelledView post →Louis Koo is giving an awful lot of Johnny Knoxville in Twilight of the Warriors. What a tremendous film
unlabelledView post →mostly I think we *forget* the books where the film is better. who reads the book that DIE HARD was based on? Or something like THE WARRIORS - where the original book is perfectly average and barely remembered, but the film is a classic.
unlabelledView post →When I was a high school junior living in Baltimore, but homesick for NYC, I saw the 1980 film Times Square about four or five times. Tim Curry played one of my favorite movie DJs, right up there with Lynne Thigpen in The Warriors and Samuel Jackson in Do the Right Thing.
unlabelledView post →#Read The Warriors (Sol Yurick 1965) - definitely more social drama/anthropological than the slam bang film. Where the movie focuses on the Warriors vs the world, the focal gang in the novel (the “Dominators”) are their own worst enemy, no external threat needed. A bit purple, but interesting.
unlabelledView post →the 1979 movie The Warriors is the foundation of every beat em up, frankly you can't really do much better
