The Tree of Life
The impressionistic story of a Texas family in the 1950s. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father. Jack finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. From TMDB

I was today years old when I found out there's an actual werewolf in Eggers's *The Northman* movie during the Tree of Life scene, meaning that Amleth (the main character) does have some werewolf ancestry. He's actually an Úlfheðnar (Berserker warrior) in the movie.

Malick and his dreamy existential imagery. #filmsky My ★★★★★ review of The Tree of Life on @letterboxd: boxd.it/aMwZfd

It's visually beautiful, though, & love Malick, so I'll give it another go & perhaps be less cranky. #filmsky 📽 Criterion Collection 942

I haven't been so enthralled by animation innovation since INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE.

unlabelledView post →The "Choosin' Texas" thing reminds me years ago of those on Film Twitter fully convincing themselves that Terrence Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE was going to break through and be a big box office success. White people love thinking their lives and worldviews are universal to the entire population.
unlabelledView post →Impossible to answer in history of cinema, but off top of my head... Overrated: Love Malick, but aside from its undeniable visual splendor, The Tree of Life is absolute pretension to me Underrated: The Rapture, with Mimi Rogers, boldly & fearlessly goes where few movies have.

GAH. @chadperman.bsky.social that was incredibly well written, really really… I think I let the dino scene throw me off for the rest of the film. Fair shake time! Excellent piece BW/DR!

unlabelledView post →today I am thinking about the Tree of Life. not the mythological one, the Animal Kingdom one. it's weird how the attraction inside that thing is a 3D film based on a specific IP, rather than something broader about, like, the long history of animals in art. they could cram even more IP into that too
unlabelledView post →@mvbrat10.bsky.social I can’t describe how amazing it was to see Hoppers in a crowded theater. I do hope that Animal Kingdom gets a 4D attraction based on this movie. It’s a perfect fit to go into the Tree of Life. Definitely seeing it again by this weekend. 🦫🦫🪵🪵🦎🦎🥥🚀 🥔
