The Three Musketeers
D'Artagnan travels to Paris hoping to become a musketeer, one of the French king's elite bodyguards, only to discover that the corps has been disbanded by conniving Cardinal Richelieu, who secretly hopes to usurp the throne. Fortunately, Athos, Porthos and Aramis have refused to lay down their weapons and continue to protect their king. D'Artagnan joins with the rogues to expose Richelieu's plot against the crown. unlabelledView post →Watching The Three Musketeers for the first time. I love the idea of Tim Curry as the villain!
unlabelledView post →Skeleton of Three Musketeers hero d’Artagnan may have been found. More than three-and-a-half centuries after a musket ball to the throat put an end to decades of exemplary swashbuckling, the French soldier who inspired Alexandre Dumas and went on to be immortalised on the stage and screen – not to mention as a plucky cartoon dog – may rise again. Workers repairing a church in the Dutch city of Maastricht have discovered a skeleton that could belong to the 17th-century Gascon nobleman Charles…

unlabelledView post →Tim Curry had so many amazing performances. One that I think gets forgotten is Cardinal Richelieu in Disney’s THE THREE MUSKETEERS (1993). He’s in full on villain mode in a very entertaining kids’ adventure film. Menacing and funny at the same time, absolutely chews the scenery.

unlabelledView post →At the same time, I learn of a French action-comedy (which looks very average) reinvention of The Three Musketeers featuring women, and of the review bombing that followed. Yes, it happens in France too, usually in films featuring women or Arab or black actors. Idiocy knows no borders.

unlabelledView post →Is it bad that I really want to see a major Hollywood film adapting The Three Musketeers, and cast d'Artagnan as a black man, so when the fascists decry "What would the authour say?" I can just point to Alexander Dumas.

I was also p. high but still 🤣🤣🤣

Also, Dumas based D'Artagnan from *The Three Musketeers* and it's sequels (the last of which was *The Man in the Iron Mask*) on an account of the life of [Charles de Batz de Castelmore D'Atagnan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_de_Batz_de_Castelmore_d/'Artagnan), later Captain in the Musketeers and also for a time Governor of Lille.

Later in high school a movie adaptation of _The Count of Monte Cristo_ was released and I enjoyed it enough to read the book. I feel like I lucked out in picking up the Robin Buss translation. It was a recent translation based on the most complete original texts he could find. He explained how the first anonymous English translations would sometimes edit the…

unlabelledView post →Movie is called The Three Musketeers There are four Musketeers pictured above. (One actually isn’t a Musketeer, but we are ignoring that for the joke) In ENT S06E10-11 “Chain of Command”, Picard is abducted by the Cardassians and tortured. He is shown 4 lights and is told there are 5. When asked by his captors how many lights there are, he responds “There are FOUR lights!” His captors tell him he will be tortured until he sees 5 and they continue to try to break him. Great episode(s).
unlabelledView post →I always loved him as Cardinal Richelieu. He had a knack for playing a perfect villain, the kind you love to watch even as you root against them. Disney’s The Three Musketeers was a cornerstone film of my childhood and is criminally underrated imo in large part because of this performance.
