The Pout-Pout Fish
Directed by Ricard Cussó
Living on a rundown shipwreck, Mr. Fish one day discovers a hyperactive young sea dragon Pip – who had mistaken his home for a junkyard – pilfering his belongings. The heated argument that ensues leaves both their houses in ruin. But there is hope! Embarking on a seemingly impossible quest in search of the mythical 'Shimmer' to grant them a wish, there’s only one problem: someone else is on the hunt... From TMDB

Critics, per Wikipedia
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 61% of 31 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 5.8/10. The website's consensus reads: "Appealing and colorful without being particularly distinctive, this animated adventure is a small fish in the big pond of family entertainment but can be relied upon to turn a frown upside down." Catherine Bray of The Guardian gave the film two out of five, writing: "Based on the books by Deborah Diesen and Dan Hanna, The Pout-Pout Fish’s animation lacks the charm of the books’ illustrations, and the writing is uninspired."

Maybe the 90s movie wasn't so bad after all. Tom and Jerry are barely side players in their own film most of the time.
unlabelledView post →The Pout Pout Fish As far as animated films go, this isn't going to blow anyone anyway but is still a decent film that has good animation and voice acting while the plot and jokes are predictable yet serviceable enough to make this a decent watch

unlabelledView post →Allegedly, an unspecified theater chain in America did a “family-friendly” mystery movie…that turned out to be The Pout Pout Fish, when some people expected Mario (possibly due to Regal showing Jurassic World Rebirth as a mystery film). @gregtheprecise1.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →So Tom's Social Care cancelled AGAIN - it's been a nightmare summer for that! So we went to see the sweetest Indie Aussie film, 'The Pout Pout Fish'. Really fun. And good to see a couple of his friends there too, with their carers. A lovely afternoon!
unlabelledView post →One last thing about The Pout Pout Fish: Considering the film has a mostly Australian cast, I’m surprised they didn’t shove Rachel House, a New Zealander who is sometimes in Australian media, into it.

Apparently no additional financial benefit accrues from movie's performance. Any issues with me covering?

unlabelledView post →*Curb Your Enthusiasm music plays* Though I will say it was because of timing. The Amazing Maurice was the only kids movie besides Puss in Boots, and The Pout Pout Fish was right between Hoppers and Mario (not to mention releasing the same weekend as Project Hail Mary).
unlabelledView post →Oh, yeah, saw a kind of under advertised free advance screen of "The Pout Pout Fish" held by the author at the Tucson Festival of Books--movie is significantly more coherent story than "Hoppers" and presents dolphins in the exact way dolphins should be presented. 💀

unlabelledView post →Saw the Pout Pout Fish movie. I also took my daughter to see Hoppers and Super Mario Galaxy. It seemed as good as either of those to me. It's also based on a pretty popular children's book. I don't know why it got such a more limited release

One afternoon upon returning from his shopping trip, he encounters an interloper in his living room. "Pip" is a tiny and admittedly quite annoying yellow sea dragon who is collecting junk to help furnish the shell he, his parents and soon to be hundreds of siblings hope to occupy on the reef below. The ultimate threat in the film is that a society of working-class-coded refugees are forced from their homes and move into suburbia to replace the middle-class-coded fish who live there.
