TLoU2: The Place Beyond the Pines did this plot way better the year the first game came out, and it was an actual movie.

I spoke with him about that film, ROOFMAN, and why the American dad as an outlaw created by capitalism looks so large in his work. a joy. @vulture.com: www.vulture.com/article/roof...
unlabelledView post →Today first movie is The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) 🍿
unlabelledView post →I've seen zero promo for this film outside of Searchlight's Youtube channel. I haven't even seen local interest pieces. People in the Capital Region PACKED theaters to watch The Place Beyond the Pines because they recognized the banks that were robbed.
unlabelledView post →The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) It's a #drama. If you like this #movie, I recommend Out of the Furnace (2013). Both #movies are about a man's mental state breaking down and going to the edge after their world turns upside down. Both leave you thinking and feeling something deeply intimate.
unlabelledView post →My Rose Byrne algorithm brought me to watching The Place Beyond The Pines last night. I had never heard of this film, which is surprising since it stars Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling. It was very long (2.5 hours) and kind of slow, but I did like it. 4⭐️ #filmsky #movies
unlabelledView post →“The Place Beyond the Pines” (2012) is a complex, intelligent and original U.S. Indy movie about intersecting lifes that features many (later) big Hollywood stars. 🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
unlabelledView post →THE TESTAMENT OF ANN LEE (2025, Fastvold, ***1/2) Condolences to THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES for no longer being the coolest movie that takes place in Niskayuna. #IFFBoston
unlabelledView post →Watching The Place Beyond the Pines for the first time in my perpetually late life. The moment in the movie when Ryan Gosling stops being the lead and Bradley Cooper starts being the lead is not what I thought I signed up for. (Mahershala Ali is a great surprise though)

unlabelledView post →Been wanting to check THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES off my list for a long time. A much different, and in turn more interesting, movie than I was expecting. Excellent acting and direction supported by a thoughtful and layered story.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching The Place Beyond the Pines (D/S:Derek Cianfrance, 2012) "In the quietly decaying tragic-Americana setting of this fine film, the story is one of far-reaching repercussions, and how the loss of the father's virtue lands upon the son."
unlabelledView post →I liked how the story becomes less about any one person and more about the consequences of their choices. My ★★★★ review of The Place Beyond the Pines on Letterboxd boxd.it/fDPVvj #filmsky
unlabelledView post →Between Blade Runner 2049, Drive, The Nice Guys, The Place Beyond the Pines, and Project Hail Mary - I think Ryan Gosling might be my favourite modern working movie actor.

unlabelledView post →Yesterday's #QuirkyFilmQuestion proved a tad difficult. It was Ryan Gosling as Luke in 'The Place Beyond the Pines' (2012). A mighty congrats to everyone who got it! Hopefully another film/TV related question later this week 🤔
unlabelledView post →This is such a hilarious (yet perfect) way of describing The Place Beyond The Pines, but this movie can hit you right in the feels. Ben Mendelsohn’s gentle performance is unmatched.
unlabelledView post →Watched 'Roofman' at the cinema. As a big fan of 'The Place Beyond the Pines', I will say this is a much weaker/slighter work for Derek Cianfrance. But it's still a good watch, with two strong lead performances and plenty of entertaining moments. Weird tone, though! letterboxd.com/1thestickman...

She's acted in numerous films, breaking out in Training Day (2001) before appearing in The Place Beyond The Pines, Clear History & Ryan Gosling's Lost River, then taking an acting break for over 10 years.

unlabelledView post →Just watched The Place Beyond The Pines. That movie was good AF. Light on the page, subtle/consistent ensemble acting, excellent cinematography with strong POV, very unconventional beats without getting in its own way. Ya, classic gosling vs vehicle all around.
unlabelledView post →The Place Beyond The Pines is a great movie.
unlabelledView post →I can’t think of a movie I’ve seen that I’ve disliked him in. The other movies that came to mind were Field of Dreams and The Place Beyond the Pines
unlabelledView post →The Place Beyond the Pines doesn't tell one story, it tells three, each haunted by the last. A film about fathers & sons, choices and consequence, where the sins of one generation bleed into the next like a slow wound. Gosling barely speaks. He doesn't need to. Very underrated #filmsky

unlabelledView post →This is s wonderful coincidence! Land stolen from the Cayuga, Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca, and others. The name is a corruption of Mohawk 'skahnéhtati' -- 'The Place Beyond the Pines.' (hence the movie)
unlabelledView post →Definitely want to watch it again, because I did notice this genre shift and tbh it’s what lured me into loving the film. I wouldn’t normally just go see a vampire/horror film. But I love films like this where they break storytelling conventions. (The Place Beyond The Pines comes to mind.)
unlabelledView post →There have been a few movies filmed here in Schenectady (Ghost Story, parts of Sneakers, etc.), but this one is actually filmed and set here. Not a great film, but good enough. The Place Beyond the Pines (which is roughly what Schenectady translates to in English).
unlabelledView post →Just finished it. Wow. So I apparently forgot the entire second half of the movie, but it was so good. It was “The Place Beyond The Pines”. The ending song always manages to kill me. 😭 Anywho, now a snack and then art :3

unlabelledView post →I know! I couldn't believe it was the same guy when I looked through the cast list, but he played Tony, the young Italian plumber that Saoirse Ronan's character falls for (great movie). He was also in The Place Beyond the Pines. I thought Spielberg's remake was even better than the original.

unlabelledView post →Roofman (2025) is quite good, the story is apparently almost entirely true, Channing Tatum doing solid work as a lead backed by an incredibly stacked cast. Only at the end did I realize its a Derek Cianfrance film (Blue Valentine, The Place Beyond The Pines).
unlabelledView post →The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) #filmreview Eh. Good performances and cast. DeHaan in particular does great. But the plot is contrived and heavy handed. Melodramatic crime drama that stretches belief in too many ways. It's an interesting and ambitious film but falls short of being cohesive. 5/10

Noticed the main characters and their motivations in both are the same. Seems to be visiting & revisiting the same theme.
unlabelledView post →Just watched The Place Beyond the Pines for the first time. During the first hour, I was worried if the movie was going to maintain any sort of energy over its rather long runtime, and then the movie exploded into a larger, more interesting concept. Good stuff right there.

unlabelledView post →It’s weird - the intro says directed by Derek Cianfrance (“Blue Valentine”, “The Place Beyond the Pines”) and written/created by Kirt Gunn, and they just got back together for the Channing Tatum film “Roofman”. But this project is nowhere on Cianfrance’s Wiki or IMDb, which lists Gunn as director.
