The Parent Trap
Hallie Parker and Annie James are identical twins who were separated at a young age due to their parents' divorce. Unbeknownst to their parents, the girls are sent to the same summer camp, where they meet, discover the truth about their relationship, and come up with a plan to switch places in an effort to reunite their mother and father. unlabelledView post →As a film bro from birth, when I was 4 years old I asked Santa for a copy of The Parent Trap. To my surprise, Santa came to our preschool to give us our gifts and so while all the other little kids played with their new toys I just sort of sat stared at my Parent Trap VHS in a pre-literate state

Her performance in Whistle Down the Wind (1961), an adaptation of the novel written by her mother, saw her nominated for a BAFTA Award. #HayleyMills

unlabelledView post →Y’all. Hayley Mills is in TRAP because she was in THE PARENT TRAP and this movie is about a literal parent trap. 🤣
unlabelledView post →64 years ago today, Walt Disney Productions released "The Parent Trap", with Haley Mills in her dual role, Maureen O'Hara, and Brian Keith. Songs by the Sherman brothers. They got together, yeah, yeah, yeah. #Disney #DisBlue #DisSky

unlabelledView post →Rewatching OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL and it's unreal how magnetic Lulu Wilson is in this movie. The BECKY films really let her shine but she has always had IT. Reminds me of seeing Lindsay Lohan in THE PARENT TRAP or Alicia Silverstone in THE CRUSH. Just nailing it out the gate.
unlabelledView post →So my entertainment for the last week or so has only included watching one new-to-me film, and that was the Parent Trap remake, which required no thought at all. (The other films I've watched in the last week were It's Trad, Dad!, The Wizard of Oz, and Citizen Kane)
unlabelledView post →You’re not missing much. He’s had a few good roles that were in his wheelhouse - playing a baseball pitcher or an admiral, and in “The Parent Trap” - but for most part he is the philandering movie actor that never stays loyal to his wife & always has to trade her in for a younger model. Very Trumpy.

unlabelledView post →Probably one of the—if not *the*—most played recorded VHS tapes we owned. The Parent Trap II and Harriet the Spy would be the runner-up slots The Wonderful World of Disney was responsible for a respectable chunk of our collection
unlabelledView post →ARE PARENTS PEOPLE? is a divorce dramedy in the Parent Trap style: a kid gets her parents back together. The film itself is so-so but George Beranger steals the show as a Valentino-esque film star who preens and flirts and cannot shut up about his sexy new picture The Love Brute.

We were even more confused when the movie started with the Walt Disney logo… They accidentally started showing the Parent Trap remake. We all got free passes for another movie. #FThisMovieFest

unlabelledView post →Not sure it’s exactly high cinema, but god I love this film. Had a childhood crush on a very charming pre-Company Dean Jones. Unfortunately, unlike The Parent Trap, this film’s 90s remake wasn’t nearly as charming and didn’t exactly reinvigorate interest in the original property.

THE PARENT TRAP, POLLYANNA, & THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS (Directed by Ida Lupino!). Was the last to win the juvenile Oscar-POLLYANNA. Also won a Golden Globe #TCMParty #FilmSky📽️ #MovieSky

Picture EYES WITHOUT A FACE, THE PARENT TRAP, and the most sordid soap opera imaginable all mixed together in a delectably debauched cocktail. And there's even a jazz funeral!

unlabelledView post →Just here to say that 1998's The Parent Trap is an amazing looking film. Nancy Meyers let Dean Cundey do his *Thing* (see what I did there?), and it results in a beautiful, colourful, light and shadow canvas of a movie.
unlabelledView post →Disney History 7/29/1998 The Parent Trap (remake of the 1961 film starring Hayley Mills) is released. Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson star as a divorced couple who separated after their identical twin daughters' birth. Lindsay Lohan stars as the twins. Sorry, the original was better!
unlabelledView post →The title is a play on the divorce drama ARE PARENTS PEOPLE? which is basically The Parent Trap with only one kid. The Parrott comedy's plot does not resemble the more dramatic film in any way.

The ones without would remain on the main list either way. The Parent Trap suffers because it was released the same year as The Last Days of Disco, my 3rd fave film of all time.
unlabelledView post →listening to an old ep of the movie podcast i listen to that’s on The Parent Trap (1998) they bring up an excellent point about how funny it is that the butler feels sort of lightly gay-coded and the nanny(?) has massive lesbian vibes, but the two are IMMEDIATELY so hot for one another
unlabelledView post →The 1931 movie Emil and the Detectives (an adaptation of another book by the author of the Parent Trap, Erich Kästner) has a villain with a toothbrush mustache who looks like he’s doing a Hitler bit. But, again, 1931!

But in 2007, Cuba Gooding Jr made Daddy Day Camp, a film so bad that it ruined the entire genre. And nothing’s felt okay ever since.
