Thanks to RFKjr and the regime, we will be reliving the same diseases that the pioneers did. Dysentery, measles, typhoid, small pox, oh my!! #SheShed

unlabelledView post →I had my students play "Civilization" this week, and used it to talk about historical simulations (they also played "The Oregon Trail", as a very different take on a historical simulation game). (We played Civ 2 because it was easiest to emulate in a browser and use as a homework assignment.)

unlabelledView post →the Oregon Trail game was supposed to teach the history of THE OREGON TRAIL westward migration route, making history come alive, 'you are there' etc.. I see that was a fail and now it's just an old video game about dysentery 😭 also, they aren't going to use it for alliance name whew

unlabelledView post →The Oregon Trail was great because it was a cautionary tale wrapped up in a video game. Pretty much every person who played died of dysentery, a snake bite, a broken wagon wheel, rotten food, etc.

unlabelledView post →The main issue is that one needs a substitute for the shooting mechanics, and I don't know what that might be. In Oregon Trail you have to type "wham", "bam", ... fast if you're attacked. This is like a parameter for the dice roll within the game. So, the question is what would "shooting" be in a bikepacking game? #videogame #theoregontrail #bikepacking
