Before the show aired, Ricky Gervais acknowledged that there were feelings of hesitation from certain viewers. The first season of The Office was met with a mixed response from critics, with some of them comparing it to the short-lived NBC series Coupling, which was also based on a British version. The New York Daily News called it "so diluted there's little left but muddy water," and USA Today called it a "passable imitation of a miles-better BBC original." A Guardian Unlimited review panned its lack of originality, stating that Steve Carell "just seems to be trying too hard... neutral · AI labelView post →funniest part of “you couldn’t do The Office today” is that there’s a show exactly like The Office, set in the same world as The Office, featuring characters from The Office, shot like The Office, with a style of humor like The Office, that aired its first season in 2025 and was renewed for season 2

negative · AI labelView post →Another question the poll raised: What does it mean to have "watched" a TV show? Did you "watch" The Office (US) if you missed one ep in season 6? What if you bailed? IMHO if you have watched enough of a series to know you don't want to watch the rest, you have my permission to say you watched it!
