The Occupation has a lot going for it, with some charming visuals and a dope soundtrack to match. Unfortunately, there are a few things about it that I can't get past. My main gripe is that there is no option to skip or advance dialogue, in neither conversation or cutscenes. On the first playthrough, this won't be much of a problem. However, the further you get into the game, the more you'll realize the devs meant for it to be played more than once to fully explore the levels, what they may…

I really wanted to like this game, and it has its great points, honestly feeling like a cross between classic point and click adventure games of yore, the immersive quality of games like MYST, and sneak-em-up games like Thief and Deus Ex, albeit without the swordplay or shooty bits. Unfortunately it has some deliberate design choices that really get in the way of being fun to play. Every single item and door and switch in the game has to be manipulated using a convoluted button…

I wish I could recommend this game; I really do; it's the sort of game that makes me really excited to see what might come out of this developer next, but the fantastic ideas it brings to the table aren't enough to outweigh how rough this game feels to play. A stealth investigation immersive sim devoid of combat where you play as a journalist attempting to collect enough evidence to get the truth out of the people you're interviewing before your scheduled appointment. It's a genius idea, and…

I think that it's a lot bigger than Netanyahu. As we used to say, the Occupation kills. This end game was already clear to Matzpen, for example, in the 60s, when they warned what would happen if Israel maintains the occupation instead of immediately returning the territories it took in the '67 war

FIRST of all, guys: do not put the floppy disks in the SAFES/tables (do not exchange items from your hands there) - you will lose them; do not try to fool a guard stuck in the floor (scripts will run anyway - it's better to replay); do not change the screen resolution during your play (there are no adequate saves there). I would rank this game 4/10 The story is good 7/10 This is an is original take on stealth investigation with a detailed enviorment so it's interesting 8/10 Where it falls short is the gameplay is very frustrating. 3/10 Controls are super clunky and frustrating 1/10 -You will get stuck multiple times. -The game doesn't give you a map. Ok, I haven´t finished this Game yet, but I like it just fine so far. The idea is cool, the Level Design is pretty good, the story seems interesting the core gameplay loop is a nice Mix of dishonored ImSimn Stealth, detective work and walking simulator mechanics. Why the negative review then? 3 reasons: First - and I cna´t stress this enough: YOU CAN´T SAVE DURING THE 1+ HOUR LONG LEVELS, THAT ARE DESIGNED TO BE NONLINEAR AND WANT YOU TO EXPLORE, MOSTLY AT YOUR OWN PACE. I get why, Save…

How to RUIN a game with bad game design The Occupation is a stealth-based investigative walking simulator. You walk around, “enjoy” the story, collect items, solve puzzles or simply find codes to advance in the game. You must be very detail-oriented and pay attention to the notes and other information that you find. The concept is great, but the execution… The game was quite boring from the beginning to be honest. This is, because the story telling throughout the whole game is quite bad. Which…

The concept of this game is fantastic. The execution falls short. There are a couple satisfying AHA moments, punctuated by extremely frustrating choices by the developers. If you are very patient, much more patient than me, I recommend this game. Here are a couple comments. * Walking is absurdly slow * The interaction controls are insane. How do you mess up doors? I don't want to be worried I'm standing too close to a door to open in inwards, haha. * The objectives are fuzzy. As you play, you…

The concept of the game is great - you play as an investigator who pokes around the areas, most of which you're not supposed to be in. Most of the time is spent gathering clues while avoiding security and other staff. This part of the game is great. You also have limited time to do everything, which adds some pressure. Unfortunately, the implementation of this system turned out very bare bones. You might expect that you need to memorize each person's schedule and act accordingly to where…

I can see why this has such a mixed reaction. It doesn't hold your hand, and you're up against the clock (real-time which is nice) with no checkpoints or quicksaves etc. Making decisions, or failing to procure evidence results in deflating outcomes. Stressful situations where you're not Corvo Attano but a regular journalist trying to do espionage. You need to meet the game on its own terms, and I can totally get why this is a dealbreaker for folk. But for me it fit the tone well. This is from…

I thought this would be another walking adventure with simple mechanics in which you just experience story. Well, you try to sneak around, which rarely works, fidgeting with tapes, codes, notes and all other stuff which might sound interesting but is very boring in the end. The story failed to grab my attention, because the gameplay was infuriating. The controls of jumping and moving around are clunky and sometimes bugged items made me stuck , so I had to restart the whole level.

This game is the best game I played this year. This is a classic detective, investigation, and stealth game. With so many secrets, character-building, world-building, and a story that challenges you as the player to understand what happened. The gameplay, as in many games, is not perfect, but it feels just right. All the different ways of movement and access you can take on your investigation. Filling out your own paper next to the keyboard, to get all the access codes. I love how many…

The game crashes after running for a couple minutes, while the workaround offered on forums is absolutely stupid and no one can be expected to do this when devs can't patch their game. And what is it with developers and slow unskippable logos... and the game STILL has to load afterwards. Resolution is DPI-tied and everything breaks at non-default DPI, requiring changing app settings. And it's default 30 FPS...

Very interesting idea with the time being limited (kind of Jordan Mechner's The Last Express back in 1997) and intriguing storyline (late 80's Britain on the verge of a political crisis). In such a game, one expects to try different approaches and see which approach shall yield which results, i.e., experimentation. However, I understand that the game does not offer any manual saving which eliminates any capability of experimentation. Therefore, in order to fully experience the game one should…

Pros + Interactions + Story + Graphics + Gameplay + Music + Voice acting + Choices Cons - Saves - Steve - Time limits Summary The amount of stuff that you can interact with in this game is something that I would expect from a VR game, most of it is just fun to play with and is not related to the story. This game is a perfect example of what happens if game is based on mutually exclusive gameplay elements - results can be somehow confusing. In this game these elements are a non-lethal stealth gameplay and a permanently ticking timer. Honestly I think there is a fantastic game and a ton of fun to be had here. However there are just too many bugs and not just the little annoying type. I have had to replay the first and second chapter about 4 times because the game managed to get it self stuck, once on a computer, once on a vent and another time the character wouldnt move at all and could only use the pager or watch. This is almost a fantastic game if it weren't so broken.

So here's the thing, this game is fun, has a good story line and great for people who like to investigate. It has different ways to obtain info and how you go about it is part of the fun. I like the collectibles that can be found and the music is pretty cool. I don't like the short amount of in-game time to investigate before an interview as it doesn't allow me to really dive into reading anything. I see other reviews calling it a walking sim, but honestly, the game has a lot more depth than that. You're sent into locations as an investigative journalist (I guess?) to uncover hidden truths and motives behind events that transpired. Nothing is what it seems, everyone seems to have secrets, and how thorough you are in looking/sneaking around will directly affect the evidence you find, and therefore the results of your investigations. This is no mere walking sim. I'd liken to to a lite…

The Occupation forces you to play against a strict, real-time clock, which directly clashes with the natural urge to explore every corner and collect achievements. If you trigger security alarms or run out of time, you get locked out of specific rooms and narrative clues. The game looks great but a person would expect to actually be able to explore its world while playing. Not fun.

Crashed toward end of the opening sequence. Skipped me forward past the part where I know who I'm playing and dropped me into the woman smoking on a balcony. I took a few steps forward and game crashed multiple times. No reason or error code, but just crashed. Gameplay would be great if it wasn't held back by the slowest, clunkiest movement of all time. Climbing up a stack of boxes to open a vent only to realize the vent opens downward and you're now blocking it with your body is not the greatest feeling. The plot could be intriguing, but the heavy-handed brexit metaphors and background dialogue really take you out of it.

The story is exciting and it is thrilling to secretly explore and find out people's secrets, and connect the different plots in the story, while being chased by a security guard. Combine this with the fact that the developers never fixed some of these obvious bugs and the game has a save feature that is only chapter-based.
