unlabelledView post →You know in my opinion, the best movie that's ever flopped was The Next Karate Kid. 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. But I loved that movie as a kid. Mr. Miyagi teaches a girl self-defense. *gasps*

unlabelledView post →Continuing to make our way through the Karate Kid movies last night we watched “what if Karate Kid 1 was bad” (Karate Kid III) and tonight we’re going to watch a movie that will almost certainly be “what if Karate Kid 1 was even worse” (The Next Karate Kid or whatever tf the girl one is called)
unlabelledView post →When I listen to Scott, Connor, and Sprague talk about The Next Karate Kid and about being Nextheads, I have no desire to watch the film. I am fully satisfied in knowing that someone is keeping Colonel Dugan in the public consciousness (whoever that is).
unlabelledView post →Watching The Next Karate Kid for the first time. Seems the producers of this film felt the main things missing from the previous ones was more overt fascism and the protagonist being threatened with sexual assault every 15 minutes.
unlabelledView post →A movie you’ve never seen that everyone else has. What's funny is I've seen, and love, The Next Karate Kid. #filmsky
unlabelledView post →My 8-year-old self’s #letterboxd top 4. Fifth place, pick one from 3 Ninjas, The Next Karate Kid, Surf Ninjas, or the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie (I said what I said).

unlabelledView post →That movie put Hilary Swank on the MAP! (Because "The Next Karate Kid" definitely did NOT do that) Also based on a very true story. I remember the news dropping when it happened. Shit was tragic as hell, but we didn't have the vocab for it that we have now ..
unlabelledView post →Yeah, especially if you grew up with the Disney Channel rerunning that film constantly (along with Blank Check and The Next Karate Kid)
unlabelledView post →What movie do you love that the fandom hates? The Next Karate Kid
unlabelledView post →The Next Karate Kid with Hilary Swank (and baby Walter Goggins) is the only Karate Kid movie I've acknowledged the existence of or watched in its entirety... until now.
unlabelledView post →I'll probably just watch this, and the Jackie Chan one to get ready for the movie. I'm fine skipping 2-3. For some reason, I watched the Next Karate Kid like 100 times as a kid because I had a crush on Hillary Swank lol
unlabelledView post →Been watching all of The Karate Kid movies in the past month (except for The Next Karate Kid, can't seem to find that anywhere). They're good cheesy comforts, but IMHO the franchise's enduring legacy is really because the first film is so good that it carries whatever mediocrity comes next.
unlabelledView post →Refurbished our character profile for Julie Pierce, the protag of 1994 movie The Next Karate Kid, played by Hilary Swank. Somewhat troubled high-school student saved by Mr. Miyagi, you know the drill. Photos, TTRPG stats, biography, quotes, characterisation, etc. - our usual.

unlabelledView post →Anyway, that's The Next Karate Kid. A movie that I hope to never watch again. At least not sober. It's a shame because a completely unnecessary sequel staring a troubled girl as the protagonist could have been pretty great. Also the hawk's name was "Angel"

unlabelledView post →Despite the best efforts from Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita & composer Bill Conti, I was not impressed with 'The Next Karate Kid.' I had a hard time liking Julie as a character despite her arc, a lot of the film felt like tacky sitcom & the militaristic teenage security force was beyond dumb.
unlabelledView post →Was no one gonna tell me Hilary Swank was the Next Karate Kid? You know how that movie was in the back of my mind and was like the first strong female characters I knew of?? The fuck?? Wild

unlabelledView post →The Next Karate Kid! Lol but also I loved the hell out of that movie as a kid
unlabelledView post →Well, let's be honest, this one does clean up the problematic white patriarchy exhibited in the three other films, but it still stereotypes Asian people as.... ....I fooled you didn't I? Yeah, I'm not at all one of those people. Whatever, no one is going to read this anyway. I do, however, feel the need to give this two stars on principle. I mean, I did remember that they made this film when Part III was (possibly) blocked from my memory to save myself the horror of it all... but that I don't…

It's getting a bit better halfway through, but it really is scraping the barrel...though to be honest, #KarateKid3 was Not Great at all, but I think my nostalgia got me through it. Don't think I ever watched it the first time around.
unlabelledView post →Despite the heavy reviews and the public's disinterest, it's not as bad a movie as they say, and it was able to end the franchise on a positive note. After three very interesting films, the “Karate Kid” franchise had to continue, and a fourth film was made, this time with a young girl in place of the apprentice (Ralph Macchio was too old for the character, and he had no interest in calling more his image and career to the universe of martial arts films). It was a risky move, but necessary if…
neutral · AI labelView post →A surprise. I quite liked this one. There may not be anything outstanding, or even massively good, about 'The Next Karate Kid', but I actually felt content with what I had just watched when the end credits came along. It turns into a sweet story, even after a fairly rocky start. The villains are meh, a little iffy but fine... far better than those from 'The Karate Kid Part III', that's for sure. Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi) is a little cliché-filled but still super endearing and likeable. A young…
