The Master and Margarita
A struggling writer in 1930s Soviet Moscow finds his life transformed when a mysterious professor arrives with his bizarre entourage, including a wisecracking trickster, a deadly assassin, a vampire maid, and a giant talking black cat, turning the city upside down while exposing the hypocrisy of those in power. unlabelledView post →The Palace of Herod is from the recurring B story in "The Master and Margarita" following Pontius Pilate and the condemnation of Yeshua. The figures are references to engravings from the movie "The Ninth Gate" and reproduced in my copy of "The Club Dumas" done by illustrator Francisco Solé.

unlabelledView post →I’ve always wanted to make a film from Bulgakov’s brilliant and fun “The Master and Margarita”. It’s one of those books that’s begging for a film adaptation and at the same time completely unfilmable

As a film adaptation it has all the parts but jumbled up a bit. Perhaps that's OK considering the source material is non-linear!

Gotta preface this with the fact that I am a big fan of the book and the story - it's absolutely magnificent. I'm also a big fan of the adaptation released in 2005. So..shortly, it's a nice movie. It's beautiful. (a thread)

unlabelledView post →Timely anti-Trump, anti-Putin, anti-Stalin movie is a must-see. Russian-American filmmaker Michael Lockshin has angered Kremlin propagandists after the success of “The Master and Margarita,” an adaptation of a classic Soviet-era novel. It's set in the Stalin era but echoes Trump's & Putin's fascism.

No hollywood budget production but conceptually really strong. Recommend it to anyone who likes deliberately confusing cinema
