unlabelledView post →Not sure we need a new Lord of the Rings movie so much as an edit of The Hobbit down to one 2-hour movie that then is only shown at a single drive-in theater at midnight.
unlabelledView post →I’ve avoided Tolkien for 41 years, but my kid just finished reading The Hobbit so now we’re watching the first movie, and friends… It appears I am a hobbit and had no idea.
unlabelledView post →The reason Gollum/Smeagol works is because he's not a main character. That we like the character doesn't mean we need a whole Gollum-centred movie. We enjoy the character in-situ, as part of the alchemy that includes the main characters. [And The Hobbit should have been one 90-minute movie.]

unlabelledView post →What's the most unforgivable sin done in media that you're still bitter about?. I still can't stop but think how stretched out the Hobbit films were, for an otherwise short book. That's a sin that stains forever with me. The Lord of the Rings films, do have their own flaws, but they're fairly contained and can be debated as to whether they were good or not. I have so much trouble excusing anything with the Hobbit though. And I hope we never, ever see anyone tackle The Silmarillion. Simply…
unlabelledView post →the perfect hanukkah movie though is the story of a small group of jewish revolutionaries who set out to liberate their homeland from a foreign invader. yes, of course I mean the Hobbit Film Trilogy
unlabelledView post →If someone just says "the Hobbit movie" I assume they mean the one by Rankin-Bass
unlabelledView post →Watching The Hobbit I kept being like “let Peter Jackson do a Redwall movie”
unlabelledView post →Like the Hobbit movies were terrible but in a way that just made you sad and bored. Not this one. This Gollum movie is about to make us all go Fish Mode, we all be Smeagolin!
unlabelledView post →I have watched a lot of The Hobbit development diaries after we recorded this and I have to say that there is a unique sad feeling that I have when I see how many tens of thousands of human hours are put into the practical parts of the film while knowing so much of it was slathered over with CGI.
unlabelledView post →Every time I see a video abou how miserable the dwarf prosthetics were for The Hobbit movies I feel sad that they had to live through that and can't even say it was for a good movie
unlabelledView post →I watched the Rankin Bass animated The Hobbit last night only to wake up to Polygon positing that it’s a Christmas movie, which I think is fine
unlabelledView post →There is a Dario Argento cut of Dawn of the Dead that's a bit tighter and has more music by Goblin and it's GREAT. However Dawn of the Dead was already great, I want an Argento cut of the Hobbit movies. Cut them down to a single 90 minute film, also with soundtrack by Goblin. Perfection.

unlabelledView post →Because I was kinda weirded out by the thrush in The Hobbit movie being an American Robin, so I assume everyone feels the same twinge.
unlabelledView post →A very happy birthday to Alan Lee! Alan has illustrated many #Tolkien books including The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and most recently The Fall of Númenor. He won an Oscar for his work on the film trilogy, and for many his art perfectly captures J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. #Booksky #lotr
unlabelledView post →Incredible that The Hobbit is three movies and The Odyssey is one movie
unlabelledView post →my verdict on The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies is that this is the most "filmed entirely in greenscreen / with CGI subbing in for actors"-diseased film I've ever seen in my life
unlabelledView post →Happy #LetterboxdFriday! What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? I went there and back again with the Hobbit trilogy conclusion, hung out with Peter Falk and John Cassavetes til things got dark, conjured silent film magic with Melies, and witnessed Ralph Bakshi's gleefully weird LOTR adaptation. #Letterboxd
unlabelledView post →So how does this work though? An American film company can’t make a movie in Scotland? So the Hobbit would have a 100% on what? Box office sales? Projected earnings? Royalties? Production only? Actors? What if an actor isn’t American-is their salary tariffed?
unlabelledView post →Thing is, Tolkien only sold off movie rights for the Hobbit and LotR books. Rights to Silmarillion, unfinished tales, etc I believe are still jealously guarded by the estate. Aaaaaaaand from what we've seen the last few years maybe that's for the best?
unlabelledView post →The 1977 animated film "The Hobbit" is better than all of the live-action "The Hobbit" films. - Better soundtrack - More likable characters - No CGI
unlabelledView post →It's the anniversary of my sobriety today. I don't keep track of the years so, whenever this comes around, I have to check the release date of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" to see how long it's been (13 years) because I had my last drink right before seeing that film in a theater in Seattle.
unlabelledView post →LOTR Extended Editions are some of the greatest achievements in film and The Hobbit Extended Editions sure are movies aren't they
unlabelledView post →To be fair, Rings of Power is not WB. But given how *the Hobbit* turned out and the existence of that weird Rohan movie, I have no faith that WB would do a good job.
unlabelledView post →The Hobbit, a movie so long it became 3 three hour movies, from a 300 page book for kids.
unlabelledView post →It's Bilbo's birthday (also Frodo's). This guy right here played both of them - Frodo in the BBC's magisterial audio drama of LOTR, and then Bilbo in Peter Jackson's beautifully cast three-movie epic of LOTR (we do not speak of his version of The Hobbit, for we are tired). Anyway. Hobbits. Yay!

unlabelledView post →Have you seen the 1967 animated film of #Tolkien's The Hobbit? Directed by Gene Deitch, the 12-minute film was made purely to retain the adaptation rights. It was shown only to a limited audience until the producer's son uploaded it to YouTube. Do you like it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBnV...

unlabelledView post →Post something all your nerdy friends have seen or read, but not you. I’ll start with The Hobbit animated film. Then I’ll add any of the Tolkien films by Peter Jackson. Not opposed - just haven’t. 🤷🏻♂️

unlabelledView post →Empirically, The Hobbit Unexpected Journey is a bad movie. But it has enough moments to keep me watching. Most of those moments include this hat, which I want very, very much.
unlabelledView post →put The Hobbit on in the background it’s never not funny how it looks like they put the bold glam tiktok filter over this entire movie
unlabelledView post →You know what? I'm going to watch the Hobbit 2, a great film about how a band of left-nationalist volunteers reclaimed their homeland from a foreign invader.
unlabelledView post →The Hobbit being broken up into 3 movies made (makes) me so mad. The book was shorter than any of each of LOTR trilogy books and they each got one movie. And don't get me started on the random Legolas love story they added to the movie.
unlabelledView post →Guillermo Del Torro getting his two-part Hobbit film taken away because the studio decided they wanted Lord of the Rings again and not an actual good telling of The Hobbit
unlabelledView post →Pick a movie, keep one actor, rest are Muppets: The Hobbit, keep Martin Freeman.
unlabelledView post →>The original LOTR films was ALL practical effects. This is not accurate. There was a LOT of CGI in those movies. But CGI is not inherently bad. We have this strange notion that CGI is bad and practical effects are good, but in reality a proper blend between CGI and practical effects is important, and both need to be done well. Poor practical effects will look bad, poor CGI will look bad. The Hobbit movies looked bad because they were rushed. It was like 6 years lead-time for LOTR vs 6 months…

unlabelledView post →Today I'm watching an edit of all The Hobbit movies put together into one movie. My favorite book of all time.
unlabelledView post →"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" Absolute trash-tier in movie-making. God awful, completely irredeemable.
unlabelledView post →Forgot what movie I was watching for a second and thought it was The Hobbit.
unlabelledView post →I’ve made it into The Two Towers and I have a newfound sense of appreciation for both Tolkien’s writing and worldbuilding and Peter Jackson’s overall faithfulness in adapting it to film Which really begs the question of wtf happened with The Hobbit movies?
unlabelledView post →First movie: Fellowship of the Baby Gollum. Second movie: The Two Smeagols. Third Movie: Return of the Gollum. Fourth Movie: The Hobbit Gollum.
unlabelledView post →Eldest has somehow got younger daughter to agree to watch all the Hobbit and LoTR movies, in that order. They're starting Hobbit 3 now. Youngest is bemoaning that they've "made a whole film from four pages of the book". So jaded.
unlabelledView post →I had such high hopes for "The Hobbit" but that was back when it was going to be one movie directed by Guillermo Del Toro.
unlabelledView post →make a movie trans The Hobbit: An Unexpected Gender
unlabelledView post →Pick a movie, keep one actor, rest are Muppets: The Hobbit Martin Freeman
unlabelledView post →No good movie is ever too long. No bad movie is ever short enough. The Hobbit trilogy should've been one movie. Two movies max.
unlabelledView post →Kicking off the holidays a day early with a 40+ year tradition: The Hobbit (1977). 🐉🎶 I sing it start to finish and hum it for days after. Easily the movie I’ve seen the most and probably why I love anime, musicals, and Tolkien. Even the doggie loves it! What’s your annual tradition watch?
