To celebrate, I've posted the first two reviews I wrote, for the Goldie Hawn thriller "Deceived" and the Terry Gilliam masterpiece "The Fisher King." whatever.scalzi.com/2026/09/27/a...

Jeff Bridges anchors the film in grounded, weary self-loathing, giving Robin Williams the room to swing fearlessly between radiant whimsy & devastating grief. Brilliant film.

Gilliam, interviews with cast and crew, a video essay featuring Jeff Bridges’s on-set photographs, deleted scenes, costume tests, and much more!

Brazil is a stunning, disturbing &, at times, beautiful dystopian movie because of his images in tandem with Terry Gilliam’s fevered imagination. The other shots are from Batman, The Fisher King & 12 Monkeys. Brazil is on Disney+. It’s amazing.

It's just also worth noting that he learned over time like everyone else

unlabelledView post →#FilmHistory On this day, 1991, a truly remarkable film was released, Terry Gilliam's THE FISHER KING, starring Jeff Bridges & the great Robin Williams. For the legendary "waltzing commuter" scene, Gilliam was granted exclusive access to NYC's Grand Central Station. Massively under-appreciated.
unlabelledView post →The Fisher King was a much better movie than the recognition it got.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching THE FISHER KING (1991). Director: Terry Gilliam. Jeff Bridges, Robin Williams. While Williams got all the attention & Mercedes Ruehl won an Oscar, this is actually another of Bridges' great unheralded performances of the 90's. Rewatch. #filmsky 📽 Criterion Collection 764

unlabelledView post →Depressing number of people saying Dead Poets Society, which is a terrible, evil film. Correct answer is The Fisher King.

The Fisher King is one I’ve meant to get to for a long time, but “The Parallax View” and “Treevenge” were ones I came to only through Letterboxd and the good people who use it; so cheers to you! #LetterboxdFriday #FilmSky 🎥 📽️

unlabelledView post →The Fisher King is a big DNA movie for me. I saw it when I was probably 11 or 12 and it really imprinted on me, Richard LaGravenese’s style of writing in particular. I love how underneath all the heightened visuals and mythical stories are beautiful, simple love stories about lonely people.

unlabelledView post →Carpenter might have built the modern slasher, but she built the modern Final Girl. She also produced THE FISHER KING, which is the best Robin Williams movie *and* the best Terry Gilliam movie. We miss you.
unlabelledView post →Happy #LetterboxdFriday! What's YOUR #LastFourWatched? A mixed bag this week. Watched The Fisher King all the way through for the first time in ages and it's still really good. Monsters Inc. also holds up. Hannibal Rising and Scary Movie 2? No. Not at all really. #Letterboxd
unlabelledView post →Have you watched The Fisher King. The film seems forgotten today, but Terry Gilliam directing Williams and Jeff Bridges, Amanda Plummer and Mercedes Ruehl who won an Oscar.
unlabelledView post →#LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched #filmsky 📽 Excellent week. We Bury The Dead - good performances - fails to make up its mind on what type of zombie film it wants to be. A24’s Stop Making Sense restoration is mind blowing. • SHE CAME TO ME • THE FISHER KING • WE BURY THE DEAD • STOP MAKING SENSE

unlabelledView post →The Fisher King is a seriously underrated film. Williams was brilliant in that.
unlabelledView post →If you haven't seen the film, I recommend it. It should have been nominated for Best Picture. Jeff Bridges should have won the Best Actor Oscar for it - he was nominated. Exquisite performance. Arguably his best, next to "The Fisher King."

unlabelledView post →This week I rewatched Terry Gilliam's THE FISHER KING, and holy God did it make my heart explode. It's a crazy movie with a simple premise: all of us matter. Robin Williams is a genius in this, but damn does Mercedes Ruehl steal the thing.

unlabelledView post →Recently started buying Criterion Collection discs and I am hooked on them. Tonight we watched "The Fisher King" and it was so exciting to watch a movie that felt fresh, unique, and something I never would have found on a streaming service. Feel like I am reconnecting with my love of cinema.
unlabelledView post →My last job was as a multi-faith dialogue consultant, so...they haven't made that movie. My current "job" is having a psychological disability so all of them that are even vaguely about that (excluding "The Fisher King," because that movie is a special vision of trauma from someone who had it).
unlabelledView post →I sneaked into a screening of The Fisher King on its first run because I heard Harry Nilsson had a new song in the movie I was 14 and The Point was a very important album for me
unlabelledView post →Op shop haul from a couple of days ago. Three comedy DVDs, plus the only #StarWars related film since the OG trilogy I enjoy. (The Fisher King is an all-time fave, that's the only Boosh-related DVD I didn't have, and while not up there with The Jerk, any classic Steve Martin is good for me.)

unlabelledView post →The Fisher King, beyond all question. One of my favorite movies, period. Amazing cast, and Williams is both hilarious and heartbreaking. If he was going to win an Oscar, this really should have been the role he got it for.
unlabelledView post →My favorite Gilliam film is ‘The Fisher King’. Every actor is at the top of their game. Robin Williams was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar and Mercedes Ruehl won Best Supporting Actress. It’s a shame TCM didn’t show it tonight. The film and story is fantastic. #TCMParty #Brazil

unlabelledView post →Requiem for a Dream is probably #1 but I'll toss out a few that may get overlooked. The Fisher King is amazing and haunting. SLC Punk is very underrated. 90% of the movie is one way then takes a hard dark turn at the end that will stick with you. Matthew Lillard is amazing in it. Also, The Whale.
unlabelledView post →I think "The Fisher King" was the first time I saw one of his movies because I was in to Robin Williams. I don't even think that 9th grade me understood just WHY it was impactful, but it was probably the first time I really noticed that a film had been crafted by its director.
