The Fire Inside
Claressa Shields, a high school junior from Flint, Michigan, aided by her tough-love coach, Jason Crutchfield, pushes past all limitations to become the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. But even at the pinnacle of success, Claressa has to reckon with the fact that not all dreams are created equal, and the real fight has only just begun. From TMDB

Barry also wrote The Fire Inside this year, scrappy drama about Olympic boxer Clarissa Shields. Why can’t he make an epic family adventure movie with huge pop culture footprint if he wants?

neutral · AI labelView post →It might not be a *great* movie but it’s quite baffling that a sturdy studio drama, with a pretty astounding Bryan Tyree Henry performance, like THE FIRE INSIDE is all but absent from any awards season conversations despite plenty of other weaker films (and performances) circulating. Why is that?
positive · AI labelView post →THE FIRE INSIDE, out tomorrow, is on its surface an inspirational sports movie -- but there's a whole lot more under the hood (including a Barry Jenkins screenplay and another great Brian Tyree Henry performance). www.nytimes.com/2024/12/24/m...

(Even though nothing happens) They also found the "killer joke" scene hilarious, haha.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Fire Inside (the Claressa Shields movie) was good. You could feel the Barry Jenkins-Rachel Morrison pacing. A rather poetic way to tell a story we already know about.

positive · AI labelView post →Just watched Rachel Morrison's THE FIRE INSIDE (2024). Really good movie that kinda transcends the "sports movie" genre. Looks incredible, too — you can tell that Morrison has a cinematographer's eye. Both Ryan Destiny & Brian Tyree Henry are great. Awesome performances by both.

Just a very by the books, overcoming adversity, "athletic competition as a metaphor for life" type of film. Worth your time if you like those. boxd.it/8ouDit

A poignant film where the action outside of the ring is every bit as gripping as what goes on inside. It’s still in theaters, see it if you can.

I love how it tears apart boxing-movie cliches. Brian Tyree Henry gives the best performance I saw in any 2024 release. This review is great, too.
