unlabelledView post →After listening to the @wtyppod.bsky.social on the sinking of the SS Pendleton, I’m watching the movie about it The Finest Hours. Boy this movie just sank without a trace. Did anyone know that Chris Pine starred in a Coast Guard centered disaster movie?
unlabelledView post →Watched The Finest Hours last night. A decent embellished for filn true story of the Coast Guard's most daring rescue in history. Everything you want from a disaster movie. A yummy Chris Pine, a pretty and feisty bride-to-be on shore, great at-sea action shots. Solid 3.5/5 #fiomsky #moviesky

I *did* mind, yes, but I understood why (and my husband minded because he'd thought of it in the first place!)

Here's how the WH daily diary describes a Jan. 16, 1965 screening of The Finest Hours (1964): "President fell asleep only saw ⅓ of film, woke up for news after."

unlabelledView post →Disaster films have become my comfort watch lately. The Finest Hours feels like an overlooked one. Yes, it's got a formulaic structure, but it's compelling and solidly written with well formed characters and convincing, big-seas drama. the break-up of the ship at the start is an excellent set-up.

BOAT DISASTER!! I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVE BOAT DISASTERS!!

If you want something short that's vastly underrated, I loved The Finest Hours. It bombed in box office, and it messes up in the finale, but I still love it.

unlabelledView post →The Finest Hours (2016): This one is a wonderful movie. Cinematography, screenplay and acting are perfectly balanced.

'The Finest Hours' is a little bit too on the nose in parts, I felt like some of the cast were overacting here and there - especially Casey Affleck (Ray), not that he is bad though. Chris Pine is enjoyable in the lead role. Pacing is iffy, but the effects are excellent - from the ships to the water scenes, impressive! The (true) story, meanwhile, is as hearty as you'd expect. Worth watching.
positive · AI labelView post →First and foremost this film reminds me of Hacksaw Ridge, second and no less important it's just as good as the afore mentioned film in the sense that the main character is just as law-bound as the religious lad in Hacksaw going about his day saving people's lives in the middle of a hurricane, ergo in The Finest Hour's case while on sea - with a life-guard boat, just as feature-some as the soldier saving soldiers in the middle of a war without shooting a f#cking gun! And, supposedly, this…
positive · AI labelView post →> A very much acceptable film that inspired by a real event except long pauses and too much ineffective sentiment. A disaster drama-thriller based on the true account of the 1952. So much better film than I anticipated. But there are a few things I did not like; like the frequent pauses in the narration where nothing really happens other that space given for the emotional background score to pull the viewers in. In a result, it did not work, definitely not for me. Yeah, in the many important…
