Let’s tackle one of the highest-grossing films of 1980. It’s, uh, gonna get weird. Listen wherever you get your podcasts!

Problem was I was with them and I was 6. They convinced the box office manager my oldest was my guardian. This was a fucked-up movie.

unlabelledView post →To the extent that people watched this movie at the time, the comparison with its much more popular counterpart THE BLUE LAGOON, which we also talked about, is instructive: because while certain aspects of that plot description are parallel, the Brooke Shields movie then descends into gauzy myth,

unlabelledView post →Why this movie slightly fails as a drama and a romance, despite coming so close to succeeding: Return to the Blue Lagoon has the same problem Cutthroat Island has, which is it starts out pretty smart, then gets dumber and dumber as it goes, dialogue quality dwindling in a frustrating downward arc.
unlabelledView post →Return to the Blue Lagoon: Lilli's mum, Mrs. Hargrave, is the best character with the most interesting arc. The film doesn't fully succeed as drama, romance, or (mercifully, considering Milla Jovovich's age in '91) ubersoftcore porn. ...but the movie *almost* succeeds at the first two. Verdict: ⭐️⭐️ ½

unlabelledView post →Great episode. Maybe i missed it but i didnt hear you guys mentioned that the deserted island where Hillary is with Nigel is a clear spoof of the Blue Lagoon. Nigel even has the same curly blonde hair of Richard (in that movie).
unlabelledView post →1. Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991): This years-late cash-in on the first movie actually has a few things happen, which is a good change. There's not as much time spent on the underwater photography and Fiji vibes I enjoyed in the original, but most of the nonsense moved along noticeably faster.
