The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Vignettes weaving together the stories of six individuals in the old West at the end of the Civil War. Following the tales of a sharp-shooting songster, a wannabe bank robber, two weary traveling performers, a lone gold prospector, a woman traveling the West to an uncertain future, and a motley crew of strangers undertaking a carriage ride. unlabelledView post →I did this simple little scene study from the wonderful film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs five years ago. 7" by 5" acrylic on a canvas board and it is still available to buy, £40 plus postage. I love the film and have done other pieces from it but this has sat unsold which I think is a shame.

unlabelledView post →The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a great anthology film but the problem is that I could really have eaten up an entire feature length film of just the one Buster Scruggs part Tim Blake Nelson is such a goddamn treasure
unlabelledView post →61. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Cool little Anthology film. 2 of the 6 were kind of nothing but the rest were excellent. Tim Blake Nelson rolled a Charisma build in New Vegas and Tom Waits stole some eggs from a bird, what more do you want?

Mostly, IMO, by omission. You don’t write a movie set in Weimar Germany and have no Jewish characters with speaking parts.
unlabelledView post →Happy Birthday to a great modern character actor (also a writer/director/playwright, etc.) Tim Blake Nelson, born May 11, 1964, in Tulsa, OK! He's been memorable in a couple of Coen Bros. films (In O Brother, Where Art Thou? & The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), and smaller roles too, like The Homesman.

It's, like everything good and bad about the Wild West in a bit over two hours, and an amazing soundtrack to boot! Harry Melling is a shock to see!
unlabelledView post →roo and i really really liked the Ballad of Buster Scruggs! It's actually a six-part anthology, not a movie, but I think it's easier to get into and gives you a feel for the type of humor that the Coen brothers are great at. also: cowboys. that's always great. +1 to O Brother Where Art Thou too.

unlabelledView post →Tim Blake Nelson turns in a Wild West version of "Alan a-Dale" as he plucks his minstrel's guitar and tells us an half-dozen tales of life in the pioneering United States of the late 1800s. His is the first of these stories, and serves to give us a clue as to the quirkiness of what's to follow from these stand-alone observations of a dog-eat-dog society as it emerges from it's civil war. Along the way, there are homages paid to both the plots of films like "Stagecoach" and to just about any of…
