60 of 72 · most liked firstTonight’s family movie: Terry Pratchett’s The Amazing Maurice. Which somewhat to my surprise, for I’m a cynical old thing, is really very good indeed. Darn funny & dashed meta & even a little dark at moments. Well, hurrah!
unlabelledView post →Just got my nephew and niece, 4 and 6, to watch the Amazing Maurice, the CGI movie based on the Discworld novel. Both loved it. I was a little worried it might be Dreamworks-iued, but I was pleasantly surprised at how it was a good adaption of the book, with a few fun cameos and Easter eggs.
unlabelledView post →Just finished the Amazing Maurice. What a lovely time the film really felt to me, like it captured all of the fun of the books themselves. I almost cried seeing cameos from Rincewind and Twoflower, Death was great as always. And it's always a pleasure to see the Grim Squeaker.
unlabelledView post →I’m listening The Amazing Maurice Audiobook and I will never, ever, get over the fact that in the TV movie they put various rats in clothes, and Dangerous Beans in a long ‘Where’s Wally’ woolly hoody. “And waistcoats on rats don't work.”
unlabelledView post →Thank you! The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents was my first Pratchett book bc I love pet rats. I was intensely curious whether the movie was good. 🤞
unlabelledView post →I have a question for @rincewind.run that I don’t know if you have the answer There’s a movie on Netflix called The Amazing Maurice that looks suspiciously like it’s based off The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents Is it, and if so, is it any good?
unlabelledView post →There is a movie on Hulu called The Amazing Maurice It is The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents By Terry Pratchett I'm going to watch it
unlabelledView post →Tom and Jerry Forbidden Compass is now the fifth Viva Kids movie to get a standee in theaters after The Amazing Maurice, Hitpig, Night of the Zoopocalypse and The Pout Pout Fish.
unlabelledView post →Ahhhh The Amazing Maurice was on tv and I missed it, saw it on the theater, so cute adaptation. I'll see if can see it on demand and I need to get a new Blu-ray and buy the movie #thoughts
unlabelledView post →My daughter and I read all of them on a binge a few years ago. My favorites are The Wee Free Men, Monstrous Regiment, and The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents. I don’t think any film adaptation has done justice to his books. #booksky

unlabelledView post →WE ALSO RECORDED A BONUS EPISODE FOR THIS ONE! Cartoonist extraordinaire @itsnero.com joins us to explore the animated film adaptation of THE AMAZING MAURICE. Sometimes Discworld film projects are really good! ...Not this time, though. podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dis...
unlabelledView post →Oh, I did not know they released a Pratchett animated film last year. The Amazing Maurice goes on the weekend watch list.
unlabelledView post →*Curb Your Enthusiasm music plays* Though I will say it was because of timing. The Amazing Maurice was the only kids movie besides Puss in Boots, and The Pout Pout Fish was right between Hoppers and Mario (not to mention releasing the same weekend as Project Hail Mary).
unlabelledView post →The Amazing Maurice (movie) is amazing! (Book obviously also amazing) Great way to make it into a scary but still child-appropriate film. I didn't know about the sequel either, kind of sceptical what this one's gonna be though as there is no STP source material :/
unlabelledView post →My sister got me the artbook of The Amazing Maurice movie! It's got some great reference materials!
unlabelledView post →been listening to THE AMAZING MAURICE AND HIS EDUCATED RODENT and watched the movie like 8 times and am rereading HOUSE OF TRIBES which is about mice like… maybe it’s time to read redwall?? do the redwall books have to be read in order? which one is your favorite
unlabelledView post →12, but also, this is how I find out they made a movie for the Amazing Maurice??
unlabelledView post →The #Discworld movie called 'The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents'. The rodents had chosen highly unique names for themselves and everyone respected that, animal and human alike. Good message to spread.
unlabelledView post →Watched the Amazing Maurice movie with Rosie since she recently finished it as her first discworld book, she's SO attached to these rats it makes my heart flutter. Worth it for the kidby art accurate death and rincewind cameos, they should have had Peter voice Death in his The Tick voice though...
unlabelledView post →The Sky adaptations are just those three. There's animated versions of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music that you can probably find on YouTube, and a recent animated film of The Amazing Maurice that I watched on Hulu. The supposed tv adaptation of The Watch is... not faithful.
unlabelledView post →You’ll all be happy to hear that I can confirm @rincewind.run’s opinion of the movie The Amazing Maurice on HULU* as an excellent adaptation of the book that is both enjoyable for new audiences and people familiar with Pratchett *apparently, not Netflix. What brain fog?
unlabelledView post →We are at Manchester animation festival to see #TerryPratchett #TheAmazingMaurice on the big screen for the first time. The first #Discworld film on the Big Screen. Today's advanced screening will feature an introduction by Andrew Baker and an appearance by a certain furry cat! Do come and say hello to us if you spy us !
unlabelledView post →What about the Amazing Maurice? (Of course that film was animated); @rhi.bsky.social has command over all that IP.
unlabelledView post →Not a full tv series, but BBC had several movies and mini series. I know the Amazing Maurice was made into a movie
unlabelledView post →to people who were arguing a sequel to the Amazing Maurice was against his will. And if I didn't get it wrong he said long ago that a sequel to Good Omens would rather be a film than a book? And yes, S2 was a bridge between the book and the unwritten sequel bc you need that in film, so ? #GO
unlabelledView post →The Amazing Maurice (2022) I hardly get to see Sir T.Pratchett's adaptations. This was a very cute movie! I haven't read the book yet but my gf rented this for me bc we saw his name on the title lol and yeah, quite fun and a heartwarming watch. A retelling and twist on the Pied Piper tale.
unlabelledView post →It's like The Amazing Maurice (which is like I read articles on TVTropes, the movie) on scary steroids (because it's not really spooky or anything, it's The Amazing Maurice and its not that good but it has a really funny title so it's funny to reference in an innocuous fashion). Just wrote baloney.
unlabelledView post →Time for a Discworld break... The Amazing Maurice movie is on Hulu...
unlabelledView post →I am delighted to find on Hoopla the glorious The Amazing Maurice! terrypratchett.com/film-tv/the-...
unlabelledView post →I really wish I had seen the movie before reading the book, if I was just a little younger I would have. I wonder how many kids are going to have that with the Amazing Maurice movie. Probably nowhere near as many as will see it first and then find the books and that's so damn awesome
unlabelledView post →I got... a 6... My movie tastes are basic x.x Side note I didn't know The Amazing Maurice had a movie adaptation though so I guess that needs to be seen now
unlabelledView post →Interesting post. One of mine will be Pagnol's "Fanny" (1930s version: watched "Marius", then this one). Also Dexter: Original Sin, Belfast, and finally The Handmaid's Tale (Film: Richardson, McGovern & Quinn). The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents are in there, too.
unlabelledView post →i still think the Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents should be made into a movie but this shit got dark
unlabelledView post →There's also an animated film of "The Amazing Maurice".
unlabelledView post →The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents is a chapter book, touches on some great themes, and also has a surprisingly solid movie adaptation

unlabelledView post →Why do I have this memory of @dominicnoble.bsky.social doing a video about The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents when that CGI movie came out? Can't find it anywhere on his channel (I suspect it was taken down for copyright reasons). Currently listening to the audiobook version of that, btw.

unlabelledView post →They've already made an animated film of The Amazing Maurice. Hugh Laurie played Maurice.
unlabelledView post →Also, it's a lie. There were three TV two-parters, Colour of Magic, Hogfather and Going Postal, and they're all great. There's also a cute movie version of The Amazing Maurice
unlabelledView post →The fact that this movie was in theaters at the exact same time as another movie about a talking cat...The Amazing Maurice.
unlabelledView post →If they'd followed it up with a Wee Free Men movie I'd still give it the benefit of the doubt, but The Amazing Maurice 2? No thanks. Uh-uh.
unlabelledView post →I didn't watch the Amazing Maurice movie because it looked sort of... wrong to me? Not Discworldy? The posters just looked like a generic childrens' movie. Now I'm hearing they're making a wholly original sequel to it and my decision to ignore it has been compounded. Don't want that.

While the rats are lead out of the village it becomes clear that these animals are sentient and the villagers have been tricked.
unlabelledView post →The Sky adaptations and the Amazing Maurice movie were visually engaging enough and had good enough performances that it didn't matter if some parts didn't hit for me. Like, most of Amazing Maurice didn't quite land for me but I am not the most important target audience for that one.

unlabelledView post →#Spoilers for the movie 'The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents'. Despite foreshadowing, none of the good sapients crew, not the humans or the animals, were a 'chosen one'. They were all just good folks, trying to save the day.
unlabelledView post →They never physically released The Amazing Maurice film here, so I had to import an Australian Bluray.
unlabelledView post →And the other 2 part TV movie, "Going Postal", and the only theatrically released animated film, "The Amazing Maurice" were both up on Youtube last time I checked, but not exactly legally, I think.
unlabelledView post →i’m only two chapters in but I feel the Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents should have already been made into a movie.
unlabelledView post →I really hope Narrativia do more animated Discworld adaptions, like this did with The Amazing Maurice, it's such a good movie and I'd love to see more of the Discworld in the same style!
unlabelledView post →They might be hard to find, since I think they were made in the 90s There's also the recently released animated movie of the Amazing Maurice And I think STP was also involved in a movie (might be a short one) called the troll bridge

unlabelledView post →A complicated thing that always feels weird - celebrating my husband's birth, followed by mourning my father's death. Shitty timing. Still...the birthday movie was "The Amazing Maurice" - we are a Prachett house to our bones. It was so sweet. The GNU at the end was perfect. <3
unlabelledView post →I love how #TerryPratchett is still bringing joy to kids and humanity in general. Just watched #TheAmazingMaurice with my 7yo (who lives in cat ears) and she loved it so much. She was captivated. She took it all in and is full of chat about each character and loads of details. She also noticed that Dangerous Beans has the same voice as the Highway Rat #DavidTennant

unlabelledView post →I quite liked the premiss of this animated comedy. The eponymous orange cat travels from town to town promising to help the citizens eliminate their perennial rat problems. Raising all the cash they can, they pay him and out of the blue a young lad appears and Hamelin-style, pipes all the offending rodents out of the town. Shortly afterwards, though, we realise that this is all a scam. "Maurice" is in league with his team of rats, and with the piper, and the money is to be used to enable them…
