Developer DOKIDOKI GROOVEWORKS, Inc.
Tales of Xillia is an action role-playing game released for the PlayStation 3. It is the thirteenth main installment of the Tales series and is developed by Namco Tales Studio with Namco Bandai Games as the publisher. The game was released in Japan on September 7, 2011, and was localized in North America and PAL regions in August 2013. The game takes place in a fictional world called Rieze Maxia where humans and… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

unlabelledView post →Because I saw some misinformation, I’m writing this review. Some people complain about missing VSync or graphics options, but you can actually access them from the main menu. Go to New Game, progress through the grade shop, and press Start Game. Then you’ll find an Options menu — scroll down until you see Graphics Settings. You can also access this menu anytime after loading your save file. I don’t know why the developers set it up this way — it’s a poor design choice — but the graphics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Xillia is a great game, but this port has some issues that need addressing. There are analog stick input issues while playing with a controller. This causes the player character to randomly jump during combat, as well as broken linked arte chains. Skits do not work as they did in the original release of the game. Some skits are taking several minutes to appear. The audio mix is all over the place. The anti-aliasing is poor. Character models look really jagged from afar.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend this remaster. Some content was altered, or straight up removed for no reason, such as key voice lines that were present in the original release and completely discarded in the remaster. 120 FPS was not tested. At all. Every timer related system will eventually break, causing characters to constantly complain they're hungry, or that you've left them out the active party for too long every time you change maps. It was funny at first but it is quickly annoying. Holy/Dark…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty solid remaster of a game widely considered to be unfinished and rough around the edges despite having an acclaimed battle system. They remade the entire game in Unity this time instead of just using it as a wrapper like they did for Graces. Despite this, the game feels mostly identical outside of the menus feeling about twice as laggy as they did on real hardware, which is honestly a major flaw. Gameplay seems mostly unchanged to a fault, meaning that bosses will still tech…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This port has a lot of problems Cant disable depth of field and bloom, game has a weird blur to it even with SMAA (and with special K not being on steam anymore chances of getting mods to remove this trash will be slim to none unlike graces F) The game already has Multiple Frame rate issues wtih 60 and 120 and looks horrible at 30, also the frame rate runs like RE4 HD which means if you set the game to 120 FPS and hit lets say 90 the game will run slower, oh and if you run the game at 120 Holy…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this is my favorite Tales game in the series i cannot actually recommend this version of it. Specifically one main reason! SKITS.... probably one of the most (at least for me) defining features of a Tales game. They don't work in this version. Skit logic was tied to the games frame rate when it released on ps3. With the increased frame rates, skits are mostly broken if not entirely. Even dropping the game down to 30 fps doesn't fix the issue, and ultimately if i'm doing that might as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The port has many technical issues that should not have been present at launch and should have been fixed in at least one patch by now. These are the issues I encountered in almost 3 hours of gameplay. 1. VSync in the game menu does not work. If you want to use it, you will have to do so through your GPU panel. 2. Delay in skits. When an area has several skits at once, we have to stay in place until they appear, which can take several minutes. 3. Serious deadzone and sensitivity issues with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Xillia — beautiful, charming… yet another case of questionable localization choices If you remember the PS3 era — all those muddy, yellowish piss-filtered visuals — you also remember that every now and then there were games that truly stood out. Games with strong art direction, a clear aesthetic identity, and a real sense of atmosphere. Tales of Xillia is one of those. It reminds me a lot of the feeling around Final Fantasy XIII’s original promotional campaign — that dreamlike polish,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to give this remaster a thumbs up. But this game doesnt deserve it. Tales of Xillia was one of my favorite games in middle school, and I still love the game itself. That being said, this is one of the worst ports ive played in my life. The main issue is the audio.. When im in battle, the link guage audio is so loud, with no way to turn this down. And the dialoge in battle is distorted, and cuts in and out. Theres also a few instances where Jude will start T-posing. But the main issue…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The skit system is broken. Even as early as the first skits in the game do not play when they're supposed to. I've played Xillia on both PS3 and RPCS3, and both worked perfectly. Comparatively, skits in Xillia Remastered do not seem to work for whatever reason. Or at least they don't trigger correctly in the right spots. Please fix this. Once fixed, I will change my review. EDIT: After some quick tinkering, if you set your FPS to 30 in the game's options menu, skits will show up closer to when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game still needs a couple of patches to fix some of the long-standing issues, e.g. skits are horribly delayed due to the increased framerate to the overworld and it's still yet to be addressed after 2 patches. The in-game vsync option is broken and does nothing. Playing at anything other than 60 fps affects combat weirdly with either sped up or slowed down artes/attacks. Overall just a buggy mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Xillia Remastered will include over 40 DLCs from the original game, but it will not include some licensed DLC as revealed in a dedicated "What's New" page from Bandai Namco that also details the Grade Shop and other quality of life features added: www.rpgsite.net/news/18205-t...
unlabelledView post →Xillia was one of a few Tales games I was always hoping would get remastered, since I've never been able to play it on the platforms it released on initially. I can't judge in comparison to the original, but I can at least voice my thoughts. Good Things: 1. Full settings breakdown before you even start the first cutscene, immediately after hitting new game. While it's odd that you cannot go through the settings on the main menu itself, this is a very welcome thing despite that. 2. I can't…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Input will randomly drift. UI scaling is strange and sometimes text boxes will stay on the screen with no text and will remain until you talk t somebody else. Lot of issues that wont resolve unless you restart. Black screens, stuck on loading screens and simply just crashing. Very disappointed in this port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The port has big issues on launch like skits being broken and bad screen tearing with V-sync on. Graces f was pretty good as far as I remember so I don't know why this is so rough. Please fix.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will never forget u my Mira Makusuueru.. You are unique and loveable. I love Milla Maxwell because she’s the reason Tales of Xillia became such an amazing experience for me. Her strength, curiosity, and growth as a character made the story feel alive. She wasn’t just a cute or powerful character, she made me care about the world and the journey. Without her presence and how she connects with the others, the game wouldn’t feel nearly as memorable or meaningful to me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game, but it's impossible to recommend when Namco has refused to enable the Remote Multiplayer feature in every game after Arise. Symphonia, Zestiria, the original Berseria and the Vesperia remaster all have online multiplayer. Graces, Xillia, and the upcoming Eternia remaster do not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished Tales of Xillia Remastered during my last stream and the entire party in this game may be one of my favorites. I loved seeing each character grow & all the interesting turns of the story! Some fights really kicked my butt & had annoying mechanics, but overall it’s a great experience 💖

unlabelledView post →The audio has a bug where it gets randomly distorted. I'm not even out of Fenmont and it happened 3 times now. If you decide to do a remaster, then do a proper job with it. The shader is extremely weird, too. There is a clear block outline on character faces, making it feel super blurry on the field. There're also multiple people complain about the unbalance audio as well but I won't get into details here. I asked for a refund now and won't come back until I know the bugs are resolved.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Audio is super messed up. Voices in battle are extremely hard to hear. Milla's voice quality is insanely bad compared to everyone else. These things really ruin the experience. Shame since Tales is one of my favorite video game series of all time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review: Tales of Xillia There are some games that stay with you long after you’ve finished them. Tales of Xillia is one of those games for me. I first played it years ago on the PS3, when I was younger, and it left a surprisingly deep impression. Going back to it now, I was honestly a little worried. You know that feeling when you revisit something you loved as a kid and it doesn’t quite hold up anymore? I was afraid Xillia might be one of those cases. But after playing it again, I can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is tough to even say, because I got the platinum trophy on the ps3. It is my all time favorite tales game. The remaster is a buggy mess. I am playing on unknown from the get go and it has some of the best combat, but the issues with the combat turn me off. Issues include -Dash/back dash input via double tapping forward and back doesn't work properly. it is glitched to double up and double down. this function wasn't even in the original iirc. -Dash/back dash during mid overlimit link…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can not recommend this game in good faith as it’s currently is, especially with no news of a patch coming out to address the issues. Your money would be better spent on something. If you much play it, RPSC3 the original 😒 - Audio levels are in-balanced, certain volumes will sound muffled or lower compared to others. - small minor graphical glitches among cutscenes and among gameplay - there is a current issue with movement in battle where the current player jumps randomly or involuntarily…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Xillia Remastered is an absolute joy, and revisiting it has reminded me exactly why it became one of my all‑time favourite games. It was my very first Tales title that I discovered back in my teens, and it completely set the bar for what I expect from character‑driven JRPGs. Even now, all these years later, it holds up shockingly well — not just mechanically, but emotionally and comedically too. I have to admit: teenage me was feral for Alvin. He was one of my original bad‑boy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE the original Tales of Xillia, and have been eagerly awaiting it being freed from being stuck on the PS3, so it is with a heavy heart I recommend people avoid this remaster. If I love the original so much, why would I not recommend the remaster? 1: For some asinine reason, Steam Remote Play is not enabled. This is not something the devs have to code for, this is just a switch they flip on steam saying people are allowed to use it for the game. Why would you release a local multiplayer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frame rate glitch that is not meant to happen with this game I just found out. The scenes aren't supposed to look like that. Thought that was done on purpose originally. Honestly it's not even that hard to patch something like this; for peak sake use a delta timer like the rest of us devs or limit the game frame rate! EDIT (ORIGINAL TEXT BELOW) I'm going to be upfront; if you're looking for the gameplay of the more recent tales of games; not for you here. If you're looking for a more old…

unlabelledView post →Honestly, I was very excited from the moment I learned about the remaster of the game, as it has been my favorite since I played it on PlayStation 3. I was looking forward to experiencing it again with a decent remaster. The story is incredibly good, and the plot twists are remarkable; just when you think it’s coming to an end, it expands into a new narrative. The character development is undoubtedly among the best I have seen, and the soundtrack is pure art. However, I was quite disappointed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best I could say is it's technically playable. This is one of my favourite games but this remaster is pretty bad and is mostly down to two issues audio and screen tearing. The first thing I noticed was the audio, the audio very regularly stutters and becomes distorted briefly, This includes all types of audio as far as i'm aware from cutscenes and dialog to the background music. The worst thing is screen tearing. When I first loaded in it actually made me feel sick every camera turn or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tales of Xillia was my first tales game and I really enjoyed it back on the PS3, it wasn't without it's flaws and thankfully this remaster has addressed some of them- I wish it did more but as it is? It's good. The good: -120fps in the field and combat. No more 30/60fps. -Goes to 4k 120 and seemingly does it without any hitch. I haven't gotten to the larger spells that'd drop the framerate hard on the PS3 but so far? Smooth sailing. -Comes with all the US DLC, I'm pretty sure there was more…

unlabelledView post →I always liked Xillia - the game has some great scenery outside of the open world, and neat level up and shop systems. That... and the main character has a great design... they don't make em like they used to. It has some minor censorship to comply with updated CERO regulations, but the more edgier skits are left intact. It's the PS3 classic ported with Unity and Cryware. Is it too expensive for what it is? A bit yes. Back in the day remastered ports like these were twenty USD max for the…

Tales of Xillia is one of those games I remember playing on a PS3 around 10 years ago and of which I had very fond memories for one reason or the other, though I could never finish it for some reason. And while I like it, I have a lot of problems with it. I'll start with everything I liked first. The characters, absolutely amazing,…

unlabelledView post →This review is probably a little more personal to me. I played all original Tales of games that were released in the West, with Xillia being one of them back in 2013. Fast forward 12 years later and I'm actually in the credits of my favorite series! As an honest review as a fan, there are some graphical and audio issues like frame rate drops and audio mixing, but overall I'm glad these titles are being brought to modern platforms. Other than those, I haven't had any issues in the remaster so…

For some ungodly reason, the audio is EXTREMELY loud (I'm at 4 and it's still loud as sin), but in battle it's so low and muffled you can barely hear battle voices and sound effects, yet the bgm is glaring. Milla's voice for dialogue sounds muffled compared to everyone else's, it reminds me of Flynn/Patty skits being lower audio quality. It could just be the cutscenes,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never played Tales of Xillia before, so this review is based on my first experience with the game so far. The Good: - The remaster smooths out the visuals and performance, so everything looks as epic as it feels. - Fast, flashy combat where you can link with teammates to unleash tag-team sparkly destruction. It’s basically JRPG WWE, but nobody gets paid enough. - A cast that’s genuinely fun to travel with: serious folks, chaotic folks, and at least one character who feels like they…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this port is still rather unpolished and no communication on future patches has been given from the devs so far, despite these bugs being there since release day and can be encountered right from the beginning of the game, which speaks for a lack of good QA-testing. Skits are bugged and don't trigger correctly casuing you to miss out on important character conversations. Additionally the sensitivity of the analog sticks is calibrated incorrectly causing you to jump and dash at…

This is my 8th Tales of the Game. I really enjoyed this game, it was so much fun. Teepo is the best character in this game! LOL, he always makes me laugh. One of the funniest skits in the Tales series is when Milla asks Jude if he's direct-tethered with Muzet. HAHAH LOL Oh yeah don't play the game using 120fps, it broke the game still…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this was my first Tales of game back in the day it was what got me into the series in the first place. So I hate to say this but i dont feel like this game holds up like it used to. compared to games like Vesperia or Symphonia or The Abyss this game just feels lacking somehow which honestly hurts to say considering how much this installment means to me. I just feel like it aged very poorly in both gameplay AND story
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10, but see edit at end I played this on the PS3 early on, and enjoyed it a lot. I considered it one of the best I have ever played, mainly for the story and the characters. I bought it again when it came out on Steam in remastered form, and it stands up to my original assessment. Not only is the story engaging, but all of the characters have their own interesting stories, which develop along with their relationships to the rest of the party, to a satisfying conclusion. The gameplay in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend this. Calling this a remaster is almost offensive. The audio is much worse than the original, to the point where it feels like you're hearing a recording of a recording. The audio balancing is also a complete mess. Some characters are loud, some are soft, and for some bizarre reason the characters' in battle volume chatter is incredibly soft. I barely ever leave reviews, but I had to warn anyone getting this game that you are better off playing the original.
