Sully
On 15 January 2009, the world witnessed the 'Miracle on the Hudson' when Captain 'Sully' Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 souls aboard. However, even as Sully was being heralded by the public and the media for his unprecedented feat of aviation skill, an investigation was unfolding that threatened to destroy his reputation and career. 60 of 120 · most liked firstI just got a random memory explosion from the distant past when a friend gave me a lot of grief for mentioning that I thought Jake Sully as a Navi in the first Avatar movie was hot, and his entire argument against it was that he was blue and has a tail. HOH BOY, if only he could see what I do now!
unlabelledView post →Part of the reason Nicolas Winding Refn couldn’t explain it was being fucked up on cold medicine but I also believe art can be transcendent and sometimes you can just say stuff and it makes all the sense in the world and you like a movie for having a song about Sully being a hero it plays 30 times
unlabelledView post →Actor, writer and director Anna Konkle is here to talk about her role in the movie “Untitled Home Invasion Romance,” as well as her upcoming memoir “The Sane One.” Then, James Cameron and Jake Sully deliver beefing news about the “Avatar” franchise! Plus somatic therapist Leaf Clover!!
unlabelledView post →I’m thinking about the first Avatar film (the blue people films) which…I don’t care what anyone says…I love. That moment when Jake Sully runs in his Avatar body made me cry when I first saw it. But, um, I’m thinking about the ending. How he abandons his human body. I get it, but I also hate it.
unlabelledView post →I keep thinking of the first James Cameron Avatar movie where one of the Na'vi says to Jake Sully, "You should go away." I feel that so much. I think if I ever met Trump, that's what I'd blurt out.
unlabelledView post →Mike Wazowski putting together Boo’s door splinter by splinter so Sully can see her again, is one of the most top tier friend moves in any movie
unlabelledView post →I'm so excited for the next avatar movie where Jake Sully goes up against... Miles Quarich, a man he's already defeated twice and killed once. I hope he's up to the challenge.
unlabelledView post →Talking to @airshipchronos.bsky.social about FIRE AND ASH and I realized that the arc of this movie should have been Sully and Col. Quaritch leading dueling diplomatic missions to try and bring the Fire Na'vi in on their side of the war, and being forced to interact under truce for the first time.
unlabelledView post →i tried to watch the Sully movie about the Miracle on the Hudson and I couldn't do it because of the fake NTSB/FAA conflict stuff. IRL, the NTSB was immediately shaking Sully's and his copilot's hands like "jesus christ, you saved it"
unlabelledView post →The Charli xcx movie should have been set in the Avatar universe where Sully and the other Naavi had to fight a new species who are all the Brat green colour
unlabelledView post →Apparently the film contains 42 uninterrupted minutes of Jake Sully trying and failing to start a fire with flint. Every time a family member tries to help him, he says “Shut up-shut up-shut up, I know how to do this.”
unlabelledView post →The important thing about the movie Sully is it showcases that even when you pull off a legitimate miracle the insurance company is going to try to ratfuck you.

unlabelledView post →Go see it in theaters this weekend! If it makes enough money, Disney said I can put blue wieners in the next one! Like Jake Sully says: "Hi, I'm Jake Sully from the blue alien movie."
unlabelledView post →Sully being captured and escaping should have been the *climax* of the movie, instead of MOBY DICK 2: EVEN WHALER, because that would have let us actually explore the human settlement and perspective from the inside for the first time, and give us a final battle totally different from the last one.
unlabelledView post →The impression I get from the new War of the Worlds film (I haven’t seen it yet) is that one scene in Monsters Inc. where Sully is reacting to what he thinks is Boo being turned into a cube; that but like extended to a full length movie.

unlabelledView post →This afternoon I was like “hey the guy in Avatar is also named Sully, I bet he’d like to watch it.” And to my credit he did sit there and watch the entire movie.
unlabelledView post →Aaron Rodgers looks like the stickup guy in a movie who’d go “jeez Sully maybe we better get outta here” when the bartender asks if they know whose money they’re stealing
unlabelledView post →I watched the new Avatar movie and Jake Sully barely made out with Colonel Quadrich at all in this one, what a ripoff.
unlabelledView post →Update: they put me on a new flight with United, but didn't transfer the credit, so I had a paper reservation that wasn't real. Made it to United, they told me I'm not allowed on, flight left without me. I'm now stranded in LAX like Tom Hanks in that movie. Sully?

unlabelledView post →Theatre in Crete still celebrating the film, Sully.
unlabelledView post →In happier news, Sully had an amazing time at Top Gun movie night. He would happily watch the airplanes and then trot over to ask for a bit of our Pizza Hut. He got the exact perfect middle school sleepover experience.
unlabelledView post →Sully Boyar (the bank manager) was also in the great 70s film CAR WASH (1976) #TCMParty #DogDayAfternoon ^JW
unlabelledView post →It’s a subversion of the chosen one narrative of the first film. Being Toruk Major doesn’t mean Jake Sully saves everyone and it doesn’t make him an amazing dad. The son he molded in his image does for it, and the one he resents for growing up differently has to save him.
unlabelledView post →Last night, as part of "Bleak Week" at the Paris Theater, I went with my family to see The Panic In Needle Park. I have watched that film for 40 years, because my great-uncle Sully Boyar played the "Doctor", but this was my first time seeing it a big screen. It is a devastating film.
unlabelledView post →And that student? She went on to become Sully. Not sure why they cast Tom Hanks for the movie but still
unlabelledView post →Re: the film vs the novel: the movie cuts out a significant book subplot about Sully being in a years-long affair with a married woman, but that continues in the sequel novels. And Richard Russo writes Sully and the local cop in later books with Newman and Philip Seymour Hoffman clearly in mind.

unlabelledView post →It even took Chuck 67 drawings to get one of Marc Anthony’s facial expressions correct. Overall, the short is funny and sweet. It inspired the trash compactor scene from the 2001 film “Monsters, Inc.” as Sully thinks Boo is being crushed into a cube.
unlabelledView post →One other note about the NTSB investigation into the UPS crash If you've seen the movie "Sully" it's worth pointing out that the NTSB portrayal in sully was horribly inaccurate & a disservice to the process. Everything else in the movie was pretty accurate but the whole NTSB scene was pure drama

unlabelledView post →What would you include? SULLY would be a good one - not just Sully himself, the whole film is full of people doing what they are supposed to do at the time they are supposed to do it, from air traffic controllers to ferry operators.
unlabelledView post →Cried my eyes out watching a film (Clint Eastwood’s “Sully” with an expectedly convincing Tom Hanks), but watched with only mild emotional involvement how a neighbour(whom I know and am on talking terms with) was taken away by an ambulance in what clearly was an emergency. Human nature is…weird?

unlabelledView post →I’m in my mid 40s and now I’m confused. Are we “letting it go” like dropping it, as we’ve seen Sully wisely suggest using a Disney .gif - I forget the movie, Elsa maybe? OR are we at our ripe old ages prohibited from saying Let’s Fucking Go! (LFG!) bc the youths find it cringe when an old says it?

unlabelledView post →The most unrealistic part about Monsters University isn't all the portal doors or the monsters or retcons from Monsters Inc It's the fact that this USA-style college movie didn't have Mike and Sully go through some stupid dangerous humiliating hazing ritual to get into their frat
