Strays
When Reggie is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug, Reggie is certain that his beloved owner would never leave him on purpose. But once Reggie falls in with Bug, a fast-talking, foul-mouthed stray who loves his freedom and believes that owners are for suckers, Reggie finally realizes he was in a toxic relationship and begins to see Doug for the heartless sleazeball that he is. 60 of 114 · most liked firstI especially hate to disparage an animation that’s 2D, is clearly animated and designed well, but this material just sucks. There was that ultra cringe movie a couple years ago I saw previews for called ‘Strays’… it’s just that but animated??

unlabelledView post →Also, sometimes I remember Shaun Cassidy had a career as a screenwriter after this and he wrote the movie Strays (the one with the killer cats). This is 100% awesome.
unlabelledView post →The Shadow Strays remains a pretty good movie. Maybe one of the best movies, actually.

unlabelledView post →Because, again, Sony made this film & could have released it theatrically themselves YEARS ago. But nope. Sony punted it to Warner Bros' New Line after Strays bombed at Universal. New Line got cold feet & decided to give Sony's film back to Sony & PEOPLE GOT PISSED AT WARNER BROS INSTEAD OF SONY.
unlabelledView post →This is, weirdly, the second gross out pet movie to come out in the last couple years, the first being Strays (2023) and I hate to say this but they both have a similar scene where bodily waste is used to escape a pound. What are the gross odds? Why have I watched both? What are you a cop?
unlabelledView post →At times, one just needs to take a break from politics. If you like dogs I highly recommend watching “Strays”. Great movie and makes you laugh 😊
unlabelledView post →THE SHADOW STRAYS - Timo Tjahjanto might wind up one of my favorite directors because he's gone two for two with these. gnarly as FUCK ninja action movie, absurdly cool. god damn. it just doesn't get any better than this
unlabelledView post →Monkey Man, Dev Patel's extremely righteous revenge action movie absolutely fucking rips Between this and The Shadow Strays, I've been feasting on highly violent anti right wing movies
unlabelledView post →watch Strays instead, it's an actually funny version of this movie
unlabelledView post →The Shadow Strays might be my favorite action movie of the year, right behind Furiosa... This is Tjahjanto's best work imo, really wonder how his Nobody sequel will turn out.
unlabelledView post →My review of Timo Tjahjanto’s The Shadow Strays, which opens this week on Netflix, is up now at InRO inreviewonline.com/2024/10/15/t...
unlabelledView post →The Night Comes for Us is my second Timo Tjahjanto film after my beloved The Shadow Strays, and while as gory as expected, I found it harder to connect with the story and the MC in particular (also didn't get the title...). Also, Joe Taslim is Indonesian! That was a *revelation* for me! #MovieSky
unlabelledView post →The Shadow Strays rules! Aurora Ribero gives such a fun and strong performance both physically and emotionally, very violent and gory that any fans of the genre will love. Absolutely chaotic and only ups the chaos as the film goes on, Timo Tjahjanto impresses once again.
unlabelledView post →I expected a child to voice the character, but I looked her up and she’s from the Netflix series Russian Doll and the Apple series The Morning Show. Her previous voice acting roles in film include Lyla (Spiderverse), Bella (Strays), and a rabbit (The Tiger’s Apprentice).

unlabelledView post →STRAYS - Opens Aug 18th. I love dogs, and love how much of this film was just trained dogs with cgi lips. Did the humor work? Maybe. It feels like every joke you expected to be in this film, and every narrative beat, lands exactly as you’d predict it. 3 / 5 ⭐️ #FilmSky
unlabelledView post →Finally watched The Shadow Strays! Timo Tjahjanto manages to be SO dynamic with the camera in action scenes without it feeling nauseating or disorienting. Absolutely brutal movie.
unlabelledView post →Sony Pictures threw Fixed away because they were spooked by the attention the puritanical crowd would give a hard R-rated animated film. Strays' controversial run in 2023 and subsequent bombing made WB fear Fixed would suffer the same fate. Sony would have shelved it completely if not for Netflix.

Full unabridged thoughts on my Letterboxd as always, but for some quick bullet points: -Timo's best *looking* film, beautiful lighting and colours -Aurora Ribero is INCREDIBLE -Exhaustively long pacing, mileage may vary -So much fucking violence and gore. boxd.it/7AB5AR

unlabelledView post →For me, though, it'll be hard to supplant Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? as the best Odyssey adaptation. Strays much further from the source material than Nolan does, but is perhaps one of the great treats of late 20th century film making. If you've never seen it, do. Also features fake beards.
unlabelledView post →The action movies that come out of Indonesia are always groundbreaking. The Shadow Strays might have knocked Oddity out of the top spot as my fav movie of 2024.
unlabelledView post →Strays might be the most unappealing-looking movie since Sausage Party
unlabelledView post →The combination of horror level gore and action in The Night Comes For Us would be a 'game changer' film, and I think that film is considered one. Shadow Strays is a more refined version of that for me, but it doesn't have the same impact second or third time around.
unlabelledView post →The Shadow Strays. Now that I think about it, I'd really like an animated film by Timo Tjahjanto 👀
unlabelledView post →Gods, I'm so glad there's another Timo Tjahjanto film on Netflix that I haven't watched yet, even though all I could think about while watching Maria was how I'd much rather be rewatching The Shadow Strays.

unlabelledView post →Aurora Ribero gets close, especially because I've watched her in The Shadow Strays and know she can do the deadpan (or close to it) and raging voices, but... tricky. Maybe because she speaks in Indonesian in the film, and "translating" voices can be hard. But then I do that easily with Iko Uwais +

unlabelledView post →Man, I enjoyed Strays! Definitely my kind of crass humor and the comedy definitely reminded me of Brandon Rogers. Loved how this film goes to show that just because it’s a movie about talking dogs, doesn’t mean it has to be kid friendly.
