OMW is in a genre conversation with Starship Troopers and Forever War and Armor and Ender's Game, absolutely. It can also be read by itself, for fun.
unlabelledView post →Ultimate Bug War is easily the closest the franchise has come to translating the chaotic spectacle and biting satire of Starship Troopers into video game form. Rough edges aside, Auroch Digital delivers an FPS that understands the assignment: kill bugs, survive the warzone, and chuckle at the military propaganda along the way. I'm doing my part. Are you?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one seems wrong. I believe its a reference to Helldivers 2, where the code on the right is entered to order a 500kg bomb. The game is a satire of fascism, very much in the style of Starship Troopers, so the fascist comment also makes sense there.
unlabelledView post →Bought the game, noticed a lot of bugs while playing. Fortunatly i killed them all
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →And before there's lots of Hellidivers hate (I play the game and love it), it should be noted that it's a satire of fascism the same way that Starship Troopers is: it shows soldiers being led by fascist ideology to their deaths, and ramps the absurdity up to 11.
unlabelledView post →Credit where due, that new Starship Troopers game understands the brief. The whole thing is framed as (wildly unrealistic) propaganda software for kids aged 10 and up as their first step into joining the Forever War. Extra-patriotic developer commentary optional! Somehow less subtle than Helldivers

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great game from the team behind Boltgun, this game is proof that simple and fun single player games are still possible in this day and age.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Will it do anything to stop chuds lionizing him in yet another iteration of what I am going to call the Starship-Troopers-Problem? No, obviously not, even though the chuds are currently promising they won't play the game (but absolutely will).

unlabelledView post →Wait was that on a bullet? 😅 The game is pure parody about super democracy. Think Starship Troopers but more in your face. Nothing extremist about it, it doesn't hide that it's a game about killing bugs and robots.
unlabelledView post →Helldivers 2, for the normies among us, is a very popular multiplayer game modeled after Starship Troopers. Very satirical. Space soldiers from a sci-fi 'super earth' empire champion 'managed democracy' while bombing other planets. They call the aliens fascists, but it's sorta the other way around.

These chuds don't understand Star Wars and Starship Troopers, and we already know they don't understand 40K the game. Just, bad vibes there.

unlabelledView post →First off, bless your heart Casper Van Dien for continuing to show up for projects like this and this franchise. Such a perfect level of cringe and 90s nostalgia. Just like with the movie, you can't take the game seriously and when you abandon reality a bit and just go with the game (just like the movie) it is a fantastic time. Very 90s, very Starship Troopers and a nice afternoon of killing bugs!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me preface this by saying that I did enjoy the game. However, in under four hours you'll complete all the human missions, and I didnt enjoy the bug missions at all. The mission structure is also pretty much the same from mission to mission, with only small changes in enemies that spawn. I really enjoyed the cinematics, they were great and a lot of fun, but I have to give a negative review due to how short the game is versus its price point. If it was half the price then I'd be absolutely…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game! Nothing's cooler than killing bugs while blasting Iron Maiden. Would you like to know more?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely 3.5 hours of human campaign... While the game is fun and engaging, is this all we get? Run to same objective, kill, defend, place. For 4 levels. That's it... reused assets, minimal depth. It's clear they spent all their money hiring D-List actors to promote their game and record the campy (and fun) cinematics. This game is not complex enough to be this short. The bug missions are not fun enough to be considered part of the main game. I can't imagine it would have taken more than a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I need the best Starship Troopers game. You're it, until you're obsolete or I find something better. Being a fan of Starship Troopers franchise is hard these days. A lot of good attempts were made, but every single video game installment carrying its name has been okay-ish at best. In last 5 years we had an RTS, an Online Coop PVE and now a proper single player FPS. This one by far exceeds every other game, mainly because it went self-aware. Just so you know, this game is used in the universe…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What's your "and another thing" movie/book/etc? Something you deeply disagree with, but it expresses its terrible ideology in a way that invites deep hate-analysis rather than just shunning? Some of mine: 300, Ender's Game, RENT, 50 Shades of Grey, American Psycho (book), Starship Troopers (book)
unlabelledView post →Watching a streamer quickly replaying the Mass Effect series and god damn I lose a little respect for anyone that praises the writing. Starship Troopers done straight. The game says saving a handful of politicians is objectively better than saving a hundred working class lives.
unlabelledView post →Yeah, I would recommend this game. But it is a so-so recommendation; the 93% positive it currently sits in is way, way too optimistic. To start, Ultimate Bug War does a lot of things REALLY well. Shooting feels great, weapons have a punch and impact (and there's a solid selection, too), and just shredding chunks off of bugs is awesome. Sound effects are fantastic, too. Visuals are particularly lovely, the style impeccable. All in all, presentation & gameplay are top-notch and hard carry the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good time, although somewhat short. Really love that in a sea of retro boomer shooters, this one forgoes the overused 16bit era and instead looks like it was released on the PS2, the visuals really remind me of the original Red Faction. While the Human campaign I would call just good, the bug campaign is awesome & those mechanics I would love to see get turned into a full fledged game. If they release Bug DLC, it'll be a day 1 for me. What really pushes this over into a recommended game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, I didn't notice that a big update dropped the other day for the surprisingly neat Starship Troopers RTS. Overhauls to all campaigns with more units. And the next big update is adding a whole new game mode. Plans for expansions well into next year, too.
unlabelledView post →A brutal parody of a Call of Duty Campaign. A loving tribute to early-2000's FPS classics; but a geunine masterpeice of mechninal storytelling as satire on par with Spec Ops the Line. This is the besT SST game. The idea of having it as a playable peice of in universe propaganda is brillant; the full motion video cutscenes are hysterically funny and its combat sandbox is soild with crunchy gunplay, Will be short and simple for some; but that is 100% the point of its mechnical satire.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FFS, I just want to watch the Carolina game, but to do so I have to subject myself to ICE ads out of Starship Troopers.
unlabelledView post →Probably the best Starship Troopers game from the Verhoeven universe that really hits all the right notes. We have Terran Ascendancy (2000), which is an ok tactical RTS game but doesn't have the atmosphere of the movie, the same goes for Starship Troopers (2005), a tolerable FPS but again doesn't hit the mark. Ultimate Bug War is a proper crazy, pulp, mindless shooter with a huge emphasis on getting the feel of the Verhoeven verse right and it hits the nail the head. Most recently we had…

unlabelledView post →Having just refreshed my memory by playing the 2005 FPS Starship Troopers and the 2000 RTS one earlier in the week, it's fun to see how many callbacks to those games this one has, especially the 2005 FPS one (as you'd imagine). And of course, this game really leans into the Starship Troopers movie lore in the cutscenes, and how nice is it to see full FMV cutscenes in a video game again?! After playing a session I almost want to eject the CD and look around for the big box to put it away until…

I enlisted in Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! expecting to defend humanity against the most vicious, disgusting, eight-legged menace the galaxy has ever produced. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Starship Troopers games have been on point in general. The RTS from a few years ago opens with you running a mission to apprehend labor union organizers so that they can be executed on galactic national TV as a distraction from the news of a major arachnid offensive. We're TOTALLY the good guys!

unlabelledView post →Its basically the Starship Troopers movie as a video game. You drop down onto a plane and do a mission against bugs, robot terminator, or alien squid zombies. You call in airstrikes by inputting a series of directions, "up right down down down" calls in a 500kg bomb airstrike

unlabelledView post →See the first Starship Troopers film, which heavily inspired the game, as another example. Verhoeven was clearly mocking militarism and fascism, but there are people that took it as a po-faced (if inept), sci-fi, war movie. See also Fight Club abd toxic masculinity.
unlabelledView post →I enjoyed the game and i finished it because it was a gift from a friend. The main reason i would not recommend this game is the price per gameplay. Its a short game witch alone is not a bad thing. but there is so much talking and comments from the player character and her pilot that it makes repeat playthroughs annoying not to mention there's not many unique ways to beat the limited missions you do have. You sometimes are presented with 3 objectives on a map and given the choice witch ones you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game its brief but unforgettable, Movie-styled campaign with excellent pacing, its humour carrying it beyond the limits of its retro-shooter roots.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best indie shooter I've played since Prodeus, and the most fun I've had in any shooter since Doom Eternal. Am I saying this because of nostalgia and because I watched Starship Troopers as a kid? It's a valid theory. But I also grew up with the entirety of the Alien franchise, movies that I saw much more than Starship Troopers, and.. Eh. There's a few good Alien games out there. I didn't have nearly as much fun with them as I do with this game, though. I wonder why that is.. Maybe…

It’s been such a fun journey and I’m going to dearly miss all the characters in the game 😭 My favorite game of 2024 🏆 Go play! Also a side game I’ve been playing is Starship Troopers: Extermination. It’s chaotic but so fun just mindlessly blasting bugs 😆
unlabelledView post →American Psycho, Starship Troopers are both far superior I might add the TV show 'Arcane' as a truly standout show based on a game and fandom that seemed not particularly interesting. I really enjoyed the violence of adaptation in The Wheel of Time, making a quite turgid and parochial work better

unlabelledView post →You know what? Sometimes games are there for just to be loud, dumb, fun, fast and very angry. Ultimate Bug War! is exactly that. I've expected nothing and came out very pleased and surprised. Gunplay is snappy, weapons are fun (oh the local M1 Garand!), gore is splendid and plentiful plus level-design is surprisingly open-ended and smat. There's a lot of eye-candy sprinkled here and there despite the big square pixels and levels are maybe the strongest part of the game. Starship Troopers…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They didn't show that on TV that I saw - though maybe I stepped away for a moment. Seemed odd to swear in new recruits in the middle of an NFL game. Felt somewhat dystopian in a Starship Troopers sort of way though.
unlabelledView post →I'm downvoting because of the girl boss ♥♥♥♥ in this game. Other than the guys in the cutscenes there is literally only one main character that's a man in the game and he dies in the first level. Everyone else is a girl boss. I really like playing this game and it's really fun but I'm tired of the girl bosses. It's all women, it honestly makes no sense at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card Can't say I knew I was getting into kiddie Starship Troopers when I added it to my classic sci fi list, but the bits about using inflammatory fake identities to rile up geopolitics sure aged well since the 70s. 48/

Also, there a surreal quality that a middle class family is playing Nukem as the family game night game. Miguel Ferrer makes a great asshole executive. And Kurtwood Smith plays Kurtwood Smith.
