In 2199, five years after the Gamilons began an invasion of Earth, the planet has been ravaged by the aliens' bombs. The remnants of humanity have fled underground to escape the irradiated surface. The remake stayed very true to the original but made some improvements, I would wholeheartedly recommend starting there, it's a really great show, the battles get more and more climactic. It gives us the same feel as Battlestar Galactica, in enemy territory against all odds. I believe this remake has some sequels but I haven't watched them
