Sound of Metal
Metal drummer Ruben begins to lose his hearing. When a doctor tells him his condition will worsen, he thinks his career and life is over. His girlfriend Lou checks the former addict into a rehab for the deaf hoping it will prevent a relapse and help him adapt to his new life. After being welcomed and accepted just as he is, Ruben must choose between his new normal and the life he once knew. From TMDB

60 of 117 · most liked firstWe watched "Sound of Metal" last night, a movie about a young drummer who loses his hearing very suddenly after too many loud gigs. It was basically a horror movie for musicians, so my husband was VERY uneasy at the beginning, but we loved it. The use of sound is amazing. The emotions are strong.

unlabelledView post →Happy #letterboxdfriday y'all. 'Sound of Metal' is such a beautiful movie. (A recommendation if you haven't seen it) It's one of my favourite movies of all time, but I think that's because I sadly can relate to some stuff.

unlabelledView post →The Sound of Metal is a movie that is fundamental to my worldview. perfect portrayal of the anguish and self destruction caused by the mindset induced by the desperation to be accepted. something that applies to a lot more than deafness.

unlabelledView post →Just watched Sound of Metal starring Riz Ahmed. Heartbreaking and incredible. It follows a drummer losing his hearing and struggling to accept it. As a drummer myself, that hit hard. The film brilliantly immerses you in the deaf perspective in a way that feels raw and intimate. Highly recommended.

unlabelledView post →You know, it would probably be something like The Diving Bell and Butterfly or Sound of Metal or Still Alice or One Week. So, a road movie with a killer soundtrack that slowly fades to just a constant low-grade tinnitus ring and the trippiest dreams fighting a banal, slow-mo reality.
unlabelledView post →Oooh I haven’t seen either of those. Thank you. I’ll try to grab some time to check them out. A couple of my music film recommendations are Sound of Metal, & Once. Oh, and if you can stomach it, Whiplash (i am not like that, but the drive element & excellence is interesting). Worlds apart lol.

unlabelledView post →There was that one movie a few years back that followed a drummer’s journey with deafness. Sound of Metal. The final scene in it was the most heart wrenching. Watching two friends navigate profound hearing loss & cochlear implant options rn and it makes me so angry how inaccessible hearing is.

unlabelledView post →Y’all it is somehow 4 years since CODA and it’s crazy to this CODA how folks will snark at that film winning Best Picture while thinking Sound of Metal is still a work of genius. The former provides such an honest look at the Deaf/HoH experience in ways the latter fetishizes or demeans.
