Used to enjoy the game even with all the quirks, my favorite part was having a decent grapple system, but now, your grapple breaks after like 20 grapples and you have to stop and repair it. I just wish devs would STOP MAKING YOUR GEAR AS DURABLE AS PAPER. It's not fun, it's just a massive pain in the ass, when you make everything break after a few minutes of playing it's miserable, make the game fun to play not burdensome.

Game started out good but the more you play the more you realize they had no clue what to do with the game. Guess that's why that abandoned it for a second game. Do not recommend. It's unfinished, grindy, buggy, and runs like crap.

It's fun until a certain point, then you sort of realise the inventory system is completely underdeveloped and it makes it sorta painful to play. Pros: - Game is gorgeous and really steps itself up compared to grounded. I'd play this game for hundreds of hours if it got updated with more QOL fixes. - The mounts are super fun Cons: - Resources are too scattered and you don't get enough of each resource per harvest meaning you're spending hours running around aimlessly just to build a basic…

I really wanted to love Smallands and sometimes I did. The problem is, those moments were usually followed immediately by okay but why is it like this though. The biggest standout here is the perspective. You’re tiny, humans are long gone, and the world feels massive, overgrown, and hostile in a way that actually works. It leans more gritty than something like Grounded, with skeletons and ruins reminding you things didn’t end great for the giants. It’s genuinely cool, and exploring it,…

I really want to like Smalland. I love the theme, the scale, and the overall vibe, but the game just isn’t fun. I’ve been following Smalland for a long time, and I recently started another playthrough to see what updates had been added. Unfortunately, many of the core frustrations are still there. First, traversal is tedious. Getting up and down the tree encampments takes a lot of time, even with the lift. It doesn’t feel adventurous, just slow and repetitive, especially when you’re…

This game is actual trash. It started off so good and I had high hopes for it. However, the longer you play the more ♥♥♥♥ it is. It's crazy that you unlock magic at the very end and then you have to GO FIND THE REST OF THE SPELLS. Just to turn around and have to craft potions to replenish your wyrd. TO CAST 1 SPELL. Literally the whole point of it is to drag out the game so you put more hours into it. It's a soul sucking piece of ♥♥♥♥.

There is the skeleton of a game here, massively kneecapped by a lack of decent guardrails to prevent very frustrating circumstances. Firstly, to make this game even playable, I advise you to recommend turning off ‘drop inventory on death’ as you will die a lot from fall damage. Secondly, shelve any per-conceived notion of getting a dragonfly and flying around because this game employs an arbitrary stamina bar to any mount that might fulfill that fantasy, which is very strange because any…

As with others, I really wanted to like this game. The aesthetic is lovely. The gameplay isn't. I'm a fan of open world survival craft games - my library's full of them - and while I appreciate the iterative nature of such games, the best ones achieve a balance. This one just... doesn't. The farther into the game you get, the more of a grind it becomes, and the return on that grind just isn't there, especially if you play solo. It's just too gated, everywhere, and with diminishing returns as…

I have completed the game and I want to recommend it, but I feel like I can't completely because the sudden end of content left me feeling disheartened. While the gameplay that is there is fun it feels like a game still in development. Honestly it feels like it should still be in very early development. For a game that retails for 50 dollars you are getting maybe an evening of content if you just play the quests. If it is on sale for 10ish dollars it is probably worth it but I would like to see…

I want to enjoy this game, but there’s far more to dislike than appreciate. Building feels clunky and poorly explained. There’s no proper attack command for pets. Traversal is slow, awkward, and tedious. Combat and weapons lack variety and quickly become repetitive. Mining pyrite from walls is mind-numbingly dull and feels like it wasn’t properly tested. Reaching the northern area through a tunnel that requires a specific light-emitting bug is a frustrating design choice. Party limits feel…

when has this left early access to start a sequel already? either they realised this game was too bad of a mess to fix, and they wanted to start anew, and make it better this time (in which case i can't recommend this game) or they are doing some shady stuff and i can't recommend whatever game they pull out

It's been well over 2 years since I last played and unfortunately the game leaves a lot to be wanted. From being able to have a farm to get resources at home to areas when unlocked should stop birds from diving you when crossing the bridge. It's tedious to have to go through a tunnel every time to get to the other side when it's something you have to do repeatedly for new items/progression. I was hopeful when I saw a small new content drop but when I returned I realized it was only just…

I played Smalland with friends, which is easily the best way to experience it. Solo is fine, sure, but running around as a bug-sized adventurer with a party of tiny idiots makes the whole thing feel like a chaotic backyard D&D campaign, and I mean that in the nicest possible way. The survival system is simple (borderline chill, even). You still have to eat and craft and not get murdered by things normally stepped on by toddlers, but nothing feels punishing or grindy. It's survival-lite: enough…

Comparing Smalland to Grounded seems obvious, and assuming it's a knockoff or imitation would be understandable, but now that I'm in the game, it actually LOOKS a lot better than I expected with settings maxed out. Feels sorta "Dark Crystal" esque. I think the map might actually be significantly larger than Grounded. Some things are even modeled to a surprising degree. You can explore the base of a tree in Grounded, but you can never go UP, whereas in Smalland, you can absolutely go up, and…

I was enjoying the game and made it pretty far, but then the game was crashing here and there. So I log on today and all my effort was gone. I was looking at a fresh character, with my character's name, but not even how I created it in the character creator. All progress gone. So beware if you choose to play this game. One day all your effort may vanish into nothing.

Took roughly 63 hours for me start to finish. Played both solo and with friends. friends make this game easier, and i think there is the correct amount of toughness in most aspects. Egg hatching is interesting and ive never played a game wuite like this. I would build arbitrary walls with a platform in front to defend against the waves of insects but more than a few times i had bugs destroy parts of my base. I enjoyed the random cliffs of difficulty and would play this again start to finish. I…

It's a really good game the first time through. My biggest frustration was a lack of meaningful progression. There are 3 nearly identical weapons for each weapon type when fully upgraded that vary wildly in how hard they are to obtain. Difficult quests lead to mediocre rewards. The endgame quest is a nothing reward. My biggest disappointment was the lack of a real reason to build a base. Base building can be frustrating and buggy, and when you get it all built you realize you spent a lot of…

I played 25 hours of this game and put a lot of effort into my character only for a game breaking bug to corrupt my save and have me permanently frozen in the sky on that character and no buttons work. This game is quite fun once you get the hang of it. Tips: Build yourself a large base in one of the great trees and build catapults on the high branches facing all prominent directions. Then get the best glider available. Use the catapults to launch yourself thru the air towards the intended direction and land on the closest great tree to the planned target location. Then claim that tree and all of your catapults, etc. move with you. Stock up extra catapult building resources and place…

Smalland: Survive the Wilds is one of those games where I really like the concept, but the actual execution never gave me a reason to care about continuing. The idea of playing as a tiny creature in a huge world immediately reminded me of Arthur and the Invisibles, and the game is genuinely beautiful, with the scale of the world making the concept work visually. The problem is that once I started playing, I found very little underneath that presentation that kept me interested. The biggest…

This has so much potential however it has been essentially abandoned for Smalland 2. Combat is janky AF, companions are annoying to manage and constantly getting in the way (or getting stuck in terrain), full of bugs (not the insect variety) invisible walls galore, progression is mind boggling, the faction system is meaningless, world events are unrewarding and you get magic way too late (clearly added on as an an afterthought). Why is the greatsword you're gifted at the end so garbage? It's…

Seriously underrated co-op game!!!! the game-loop mechanic is very satisfying and you get a sense of achievement every time you leave the base to explore. around every corner are new resources to find, harvest & craft with, new bugs to kill and new areas to explore. one aspect of this game I really enjoyed was the base-building!…

It may be a bit unfair that this game is always compared to Grounded, because it really stands on its own very well. The parry/dodge centric combat flows well, base building is smooth (reminds me of Valheim), and story is enough to keep me engaged as I progress. Where this game stands apart is the mount system. Taming a grasshopper and jumping around the map is the best feeling in this game, it makes traversal feel akin to Spiderman PS4, that anything in this huge world is just a couple hops…

Quest progression felt ok at the beginning, and the overall vibe of exploring a map as small folk was interesting. Graphics was nothing fantastic, but decent enough. The building system is also not bad but takes awhile to get used to. I feel like people not into building will easily give up and just build something functional instead of trying for aesthetics. I feel like thats where the 'good' ends. The game goes downhill the longer you play. Not really a fan of the combat, feels janky with…

Literal definition of "We have Grounded at home." It's a very loose recommend. It almost feels like this game saw all the other survival games of recent and said "Watch me do what you do, but worse." It can be fun at times (co-op improves the experience), but if it wasn't for mods, I'm not sure I would have completed this game.

You know, it's a shame. This game is close to greatness, but it leaves a sour taste in your mouth by the end. TLDR: =6/10 rating, Probably a solid 30-40 hours of gameplay to complete if you don't stop to smell any roses. =I've recommended the game, because despite it's flaws (of which it has many), as an indie dev they delivered a full, playable/non-buggy game which is fairly wide in scope, looks good and is enjoyable, albeit mechanically disappointing/shallow/lacks full polish. =If you want…

A part of me doesn’t want to recommend Smalland because it often feels incomplete. However, the game is quite charming if you give it a chance, especially when playing with friends. Co-op is often used as an easy excuse for a game’s appeal, but I don’t think that applies here. Smalland is a welcome exception because its charm still comes through, even when the flaws are obvious. In open world games, you really need that hook that keeps you going. There's always the next tier, next piece of armor, or gadget, perhaps building bigger or better. In a sense, sure, it has those elements previously mentioned, but all of them feel flat. You start out by grinding resource-1, which is in abundance in one area. Then you travel to the opposite end of the map to grind resource-B, to unlock a better tool. Then you travel to another distant corner of the map to grind resource-C.…

I just don't understand how a game can be so full and so empty at the same time. I dunno. It feels like it's just missing that special sauce. A soul. I somehow made it up a tree, built a shack, and grew the DARKNESS LADYBUG. But it really feels like I've already seen pretty much everything, which means only the grind is left. If they had stopped at early access launch and added nothing else my opinion of this game would be higher. The game is generally fun but lacks a coherent journal/quest pathway. There are a lot of super clunky and poorly designed key bindings, GUI aspects, and gameplay mechanics especially with the companions that detract from the playability of the game. I just logged in after hours of farming and raising a companion to find my storage companion disappeared with all the items that were stored in it from a farming trip. Not touching this game anymore after that and would refund if I was able to.

Smalland is probably one of the best Open World Survival games in the genre! I personally put it above "Grounded (2022)" despite being less popular. Made by British independent/AA developers "Merge Games" (now re-branded as Silver Lining). After beating the final boss and finishing the story, here are my main takeaways: - Combat is simple, Dark Souls-like mechanics. You have stamina which is used to run, attack, and dodge. You can parry attacks by blocking right as certain attacks hit you. It's simple, effective, and enjoyable (although it can feel a bit stale at times). - The building mechanic…

Already abandoning this one to launch a second title sucks, especially as this one still doesn't feel complete and lacks a lot of the polish you'd expect from a survival title in this day and age.

TL;DR: "We have Grounded at home". Smalland feels like one of those abandoned early access games where you see the potential, but everything feels unfinished and it doesn't seem like it will ever be. Awesome game, played solo and with friends, both are fun. Bugs look cool and the finale is more epic that I expected.

Kinda cute game, but short. It's like Grounded, but with magic and not sci-fi. The game runs fine, no weird lag-spikes and heavy usage on hardware. A bit imbalanced settings, either everything is too easily die, or you hit roll hit roll for minutes, then get 2shoted. Interesting concept you have character as save-file, not just world, and you can jump server to server with same character, while your real progress stays in your world. Specially like how my great tit can shake the floor :D…
