I'm two hours in, and after paying full price for this game, and thinking that I had botched my first play through, I was about to write a negative review. Then it threw me a curve that changed my mind. I was shocked. The game got me, and at fifty one years of age, that's a rare thing. A little background information first. I don't like story games where you constantly save, reload, and start over until you get the result that you want. It ruins my sense of immersion. After nearly two hours,…

Silicon Dreams: Cyberpunk Interrogation Thoughtful, provoking, atmospheric and wonderfully written. The premise may be nothing new but I felt a genuine anxiety being judge, jury and executioner. Androids: Sentient beings with basic rights or technologically advanced tools to be owned and used by us? Silicon Dreams is an investigative and interrogation style game which questions the ethics around the use of androids. It pushes players to search for answers to conflicting and abstruse concepts, whilst encouraging intense philosophical debates and moral dilemmas continuously throughout the game. Although the idea of "deviant" androids is certainly not anything new, the thorough impact of…

In Silicon Dreams, you play the role of an corporate-owned android tasked with interrogating the functionality and compliance of other androids and humans in this universe. To start, the game places you in an office "with a view," where you sit a desk from which you will remotely perform interrogations of your poor subjects. Throughout your interrogations, you will ask subjects questions about work, family, personal life, and pointed questions, and you will uncover truths, half-truths, and…

In theory, it's an interesting delve into a Near-Future society that has to deal with Artificial Sentience and Socio-Economic upheavel caused by mass automation. The game touches on various aspects of ethics and the nature of the human being, making it quite interesting from a philosophical point of view. However, the way the game presents the story is... plain and minimalistic. Most of it comes down to just going through every possible dialogue option, to unlock more dialogue options to then…

While I did have an enjoyable time, I would definitely say they front-loaded this game in the demo. None of the other cases are nearly as interesting as the Shakira Barber case, and just in case you were wondering, there is no nuance with the followup cases on whether the androids are deviant or not. They make it seem like sussing out if a deviant is trying to pass itself off as regular, but they are just all deviants. The choices literally just come down to if you want to help them or kill…

There are some interesting aspects to Silicon Dreams that I think make for a good experience, but it never really managed to capture the tension or dilemmas of the games it takes inspiration from. Papers Please worked well because, in addition to the moral dilemmas at play, you had a strict time limit that forced you to take these decisions with little time to think them through. Likewise, monetary punishments could dissuade you from taking ethical actions thus encouraging you to perform your…

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 284: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (10/10) MAN, this game is so underrated. Silicon Dreams wears its influences proudly—part Detroit: Become Human, part Papers, Please, and entirely fixated on the thorny question of what makes us human. It’s a game that could’ve easily fallen into cliché, but instead, it delivers one of the most thoughtful, tightly written, and thematically rich experiences I’ve had in the cyberpunk genre. The core gameplay…

This game is like if Detroit: Become Human tried to focus on one thing... and managed it at least a hundred times better. The world-building is absolute top-tier. We start with a baby robot expected to live their whole life in a box, and slowly learn about the world through other androids sent in as their (potential) victims. Android slavery is, of course, a central focus, but we also learn about a restructured United States, social welfare crises, and the methods of enforcing this dystopian…

Silicon Dreams is a Visual Novel that asks important questions for our society. Where do we draw the line between human and machine and what do we do with machines who show deviant behaviour? The developers once started a Kickstarter for this game, and although the initial campaign failed, the game still saw the light of day. For in indie project, Silicon Dreams is quite ambitious and reminded me a lot of Orwell: Ignorance Is Strength. As the protagonist, we are thrown into the deep end and…

This is one of the few gems among the influx of cyberpunk adventure games and VNs, many of which are heavy on aesthetic without understanding the source material. A great story that, if you want to see it all the way through, requires you to walk a tightrope of corporate loyalty and serving your own interests in the choices you make that really pays off in the end. Be nice to your AI, folks.

Nice little game, it's like a combination of Papers Please and Blade Runner (it does mention that film in places). Each of the cases is different and with different goals so it's not as repetitive and tedious as this genre of game can be. However main and probably only downpoint is that game is very short, unless you're a completionist it might not be worth investing in at the current price. I expected to like this game: it looks like a perfect me game, but something just don't click. The text itself is fine, but the interrogations feel bland. There is no impact and the report where you can choose almost anything you want without crucial repercussions makes the interrogations anticlimactic. If you want another interrogator simulator try Interrogation: You will be deceived.

This does what I wish AAA RPGs with narratives would do; choices actually feel like they make an impact and the gameplay changes that reflect this are dynamic in nature and provide meaningful differences in the conversations. It doesn't feel this way on a macro scale, the meaning is more in the individual encounters with some exceptions. To word it a little differently, I felt like my choices had very little impact on the story as a whole and I could easily (a little too easily) steer the…

Why isn't this game getting the attention it deserves? The premise is that you are interviewing sentient androids capable of feeling real emotions. Excellently executed. I heard the comparison with Paper please, but that's not really accurate. Yes, they have the same kind moral decisions but the main mechanic in PP is to spot an increasingly amount of possible inconsistencies. I've got bored quickly there. The premise is interesting and it certainly does a good job at making you feel like the company that owns you is using you. But, I find the mechanics pretty impenetrable. I'm not really sure how to succeed even if I wanted to and so I decided to allow the fail state of "doing a bad job" because I thought it would be interesting. I'm of mixed opinion about this game. It was interesting and I got to a ending. But on trying to replay it a couple of times, I couldn't get the opposite ending. I think the problem is that too many things are initiated by requiring a certain amount of time pass in certain interrogations. This means that if you are replaying and don't need to re-read everything you just read, you just have to leave the game sitting there doing nothing in every interrogation for a while to make sure you don't…

It's a miserable game. As an interrogator at Kronos Coprorations (rad name by the way) it's your job to decide what's to do with the deviant androinds. Kronos cares way more about its image than doing any good tbh. Which means that oftentimes they'll tell you what outcome they desire, and you need to find a justification for it. Or not, and suffer the consequences. As an interrogator you're not allowed to congregate with other androids which means that there's little incentive to lick Kronos'…

You always have choices to make, and often find yourself dealing with the consequences of your choices. 8/10 Very Good. This is a very intelligent game that puts you in the role of an AI 'interrogator', designed to identify deviancy in the various androids out in the public sector. To do this, your task is to ask questions and read the emotional output of the various models - some have a full range of emotions, some have programmed hard-limits such as being incapable of feeling anger or sadness, and therefore need to be dealt with if they do exhibit these feelings. It's an interesting game, and I reasonably recommend it. The interrogation mechanic is interesting, and it does lend itself to some real world techniques (fear up / fear down). But it's not without flaws. The story, while well crafted, doesn't really say anything new. You're an android whose job is to interview other androids and figure out if they're faulty and if they should be destroyed entirely, or if they can be let go free, or only be sent for maintenance. The most important one is that you can read the emotions of the android. The stories of the androids are well written and can be very emotional. One of the best dialog-driven games I've tried. The conversations feel immersive and the stories are interesting.
