60 of 168 · most liked first9.0 /10 That rating is only for those of you that can understand what gaming was like from 1995 - 2005. If you're under 30 you won't like this game (Most likely). You see this game isn't about having the best graphics or non stop action and or FPS. This game is a simulation. It requires you to think and to use your brain in ways that some of you just have not experienced. That being said, if you have a good imagination and don't mind some mid-level graphics, what you will find here may just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not play this game unless you play with the GWX Knight's Cross Edition megamod, which makes the game playable on modern systems and widescreen monitors. I've owned this game since its original release back in 2005, before steam existed. So let's just say Steam's estimate on my hours played is woefully inaccurate. I also play with the aforementioned (free) megamod and SH3 Commander which makes it playable outside of the Steam Client. My real playtime must run into a few thousand hours. When…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a reason this game is at or near the top of the charts for Submarine games - even after 20 years. In short, it's damn near perfect. But I'll be honest - if you like instant gratification, guns-a-blazing action then look elsewhere. This game relies on planning and stealth. You may spend hours stalking your prey for that perfect kill. And much like the real-life events it portrays, you will slowly turn from the "hunter" into the "hunted" as the allies slowly figure things out and improve…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like playing this as i have parkinsons and this game runs a pace i can deal with i can imagin myself on board the sub trying to sneak passed the escorts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best ww2 uboat game ever. Look for GWX OneAlex or Fifi's NYGM total conversion mods to enjoy an improved and updated experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Without a doubt, this game is the best entry in the Silent Hunter series. In my humble opinion, no other installment captures the atmosphere of the third one. It’s a perfect blend of music, ambient sounds, crew voices, and the constant pressure from destroyers — a combination that keeps me coming back again and again. Like fine wine, this game only gets better with age. It reminds me of the days when Ubisoft still knew how to make truly great games. Thanks for my childhood — the best subsim…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one's sentimental to me cause my old man used to play SH2 and 3 when I was a kid, and the most supreme honor he could bestow little me was to let me press that big red button to fire the torpedoes. Then got my own PC and started playing with the same CD versions he had. Now I can keep playing it, even though it's old, it still works, and it's still fun. And I love to tell my pops how good I fare at sea, beating his old records from time to time :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but dated without mods. Buy this then download the GWX OneAlex mod pack, its literally the only way to make this game playable!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now 20 years old but still immersive. It's faults are well known but tolerable. One piece of advice is to save the game periodically, particularly if on a long ocean transit, and after any successful action. Otherwise you may lose a considerable amount of game time. Often find if you really zoom in on the navigation chart when conducting a detailed action, plenty of plots and updates, the program can bug out then. So again, in such cases in pays to save so you are not wasting a lot of careful…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →probably the best sub sim ever made, still very playable in 2025.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is by far, the best subsim ever made. It still holds up to this day. Graphics are descent, ever after 19 years. The campaign is awesome, especially going from the beginning to the end of the war, especially at the end where the difficulty rises because of how the Allies evolved their tactics and technology. I would also use the Grey Wolves mod to make the experience even better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is my Happy Times (history nerds please get the joke)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An oldie but a goodie! SH3 is absolutely fantastic if you're looking for a sub-sim. It's got plenty of realism settings to cater to both die-hard sim fans as well as casual players. Read the manual and watch the tutorial vids, and you'll be well on your way Kapitan! There's also a prominent community out there and some great mods for the game. Overall, you can't go wrong with it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It doesn't matter how long you play the game... it's always different.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Hunter III is a highly detailed World War II submarine simulation developed and published by Ubisoft, with development led by Ubisoft Romania. Released in 2005 for PC, the game quickly became one of the most respected entries in the long-running Silent Hunter franchise and remains widely regarded as one of the most immersive submarine simulations ever created. Unlike many action-focused war games, Silent Hunter III emphasizes authenticity, patience, and tactical thinking. Players are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is incredibly good but it crashes constantly. When you hit the buttons to switch the crew around there is a 30% chance that you crash to the desktop. I tried so hard to push through it but I can't even progress because of the frequent crashes. This game would be so good if Ubisoft remastered it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still running well on Windows 11, mods recommended for a fully experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →>Be me >Find a nice large cargo ship to sink >Fire a spread of 4 torpedoes >1 misses, the other 3 fail to explode >... 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's past its heyday, but still (with mods) the best subsim game I've played. I hope one day they remaster/remake it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This old dog can still hunt. Masterpiece!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a great game, it takes a bit of time to learn all the controls but once you understand the game feels great!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Superb U-Boot game. Needs some work to run under Windows 11. Check this site for better graphics and other optimisations: https://www.lsh3.com
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Emperor of Emperors!! Uboat is a challenger to the title but still requires more bugs fixed, more content to approach Silent Hunter III which will remain for eternity
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was one of my favorites back in the mid 2000s... I'm thinking about finding a way to reinstall the CD, even though my PC no longer has a CD-ROM drive. This Steam version crashes so much it's almost unplayable. I've yet to complete a single war patrol without the game crashing. Nothing like spending 2 hours plotting a course to your patrol area, finding a convoy, stalking it for a half hour, sinking 4 ships with your first salvo, 2 more with your second, making a miraculous…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played thousands of hours on the dvd version. Feels authentic, can be complex for those who want it or simple if you just want leasure time. The DVD-box had a physical map of the Atlantic with common routes for vessels, very helpful in the early years of the war: [url=https://archive.org/details/SILENT_HUNTER_III_MAP]Click! The eerie feeling of being hunted for 12+ hours on the later years of the war, no other game comes close.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent hunter 3 is the standard I use to judge all other sub sim games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best WW2 sub sim I've played. I'm old school Silent Service back in the NES days, which is where I got my love for these games. I've played over 100 hours of the vanilla version of this game and I keep coming back for more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GWX-KC is a must
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like having the ability to perform torpedo calculations either manually or automatically. Both of which are not exactly historically accurate, but offer either a very balanced strategy or arcade playstyle in the same game. I played the original version and this still has the same bugs and intermittent crashes. Save liberally.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Hunter III is a powerful drug. I will warn you that if you are a military or history nerd like me an decide to pick this up you will not put it down. I literally got this on sale for 2.49 not really knowing what I was getting into. Next thing I knew I blew 5 hours straight hunting convoys. This game also has a lot of mods that convert it into something else. I wish that steam had workshop for this, but otherwise I would say that this game is aa 10/10. Most fun I've had in a while.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So old but still a great game. I play this a lot and still have a lot of love for it. 2025 kick old school games 🤣
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →love this game. its the best subsim for people with older computers or computers with low end graphics cards. gameplay is fun and exciting and the single missions are awesome
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a highly unique and engaging game for anyone looking for a compact submarine experience, with excellent attention to detail and a player-friendly design. Every small element has been crafted with extraordinary care and passion, and it shows. Underpriced masterpiece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best sub simulator after mods are installed. ARB UI mod to bring widescreen gfx and nice menus. checkout subsim.com for more, endless modification.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best Subsim out there! I highly reccomand the GWX - Knight's Cross Edition Megamod: https://thegreywolves.com/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i went from console to pc just to play this after seeing you tubers playing it and im very happy i did. graphics and gameplay stand up well even after 20 plus years. happy old gamer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont bother buying it now.Was a great game, but you wont get it to fill the monitor so its windowed like its 1998...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old but always good and top by submarine games. Good idea to offer this classic game via Steam; my original CD of the game was dead. Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good old SH3 the players sub sim
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the best uboat sim ever made, nothing comes close after all these years,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game 3 days ago as I found it on the morning of my Friday of my work week. I proceeded to install the game and as it was installing I read a tip for new players guide and then proceeded to read the entire tutorial and play the game. I didn't know at the time I was going to then be addicted to a genre of video game I have sought after for so long. If you are looking to find a submarine simulator because you've thought about the sub warfare of ww2 then buy this game. The only thing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's worth trying out, if you are into this kind of thing. Beware, however, stock game is quite buggy, and might feel unpleasant at first, but moding or learning how to avoid the bugs makes the game incredibly addicting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an old game but a good game. It has quite remarkable immersion, although I'd have liked if you could visit the whole boat, including engine and torpedo rooms, not just the bridge and radio sections. It's not necessary for gameplay, and realistically the Ka-Leun would probably just be in the way there, but nice nonetheless.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You might as well buy a decommissioned U-boat
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Silent Hunter III is the ultimate classic WWII German submarine simulator. You can play it like a realistic simulator or a bit more like an arcade if you like. Good on solo or with friends.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect submarine sim (you can add some wolf pack patch and it's even better)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keeps crashing, forget about it. Waste of money
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is quite old, butthe mechanics are good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Live, laugh, LOSS A wolfpack345 shirt
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most annoying thing about the game is that torpedoes will never reload, destroyers are impossible to torpedo and before you reach where you're supposed to go you will be swarmed either by destoyers escorting nothing and won't go away or planes if you have no flak guns. Most of this game is just a waste of time
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →that feeling of listening to diesel engines while searching for enemy ship with glasses for an hour on the horizon
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic! It's just like Das Boot, the movie. The voices, the suspense, all the pings and scribbles and ticking of the stopwatches. Play for a short while, or a long campaign.. do you have what it takes to be a WWII U-boat Captain?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes it's is dated by the graphics standards of today but this 2005 game is still as captivating to fans of the Sub sim genre. Solid immersive gameplay capturing it's era perfectly. I like the fact that despite having x1024 time travel you still experience just how long a journey it was from your base to the patrol point. There are some amazing mods available to change a multitude of game assets, graphics, sound, gameplay, additional ships. I had a couple of thousand hours after this game was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the best sub sim of all time. It still works pretty well on more current PCs. Newer games like Uboat introduce a lot more complexity, if you're wanting more than what Silent Hunter has to offer, but in terms of just nice, pure submarine action, it's hard to top.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very cool and fun game, plus the difficulty multiplayer works if you have a virtual LAN network if you want more modding capability then you may want SH4 with the u-boat missions however (for example there is an IJN sub and a Royal Navy Mediterranean sub campaign mod, as well as more surface ship mods) however overall this is a good and fun game, and I much prefer prowling the Atlantic over the Pacific
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →try it its a gem but yes bit hard at first
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best silent hunter ever
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The last time I played with Submarines in this game was back in 2014 ever since then I've only ever played with Surface Ships because those types of ships combined with this game make an unforgettable experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not working, I would avoid it!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Autism but underwater
