What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised as a casual rogue-like, but criticized for shallowness and bugs.
Many players enjoy Shattered Planet as a light, casual rogue-like that is easy to pick up and fun in short bursts. Some call it a hidden gem with variety and humor, while others note it lacks depth but remains addictive. [4][6][12][2]
However, critics point to shallow gameplay, heavy reliance on luck, repetitive grinding, and bugs. Some feel it is overpriced and better suited as a mobile game, with several negative reviews calling it one of the worst rogue-likes they have played. [25][26][28][27][32]

Shattered Planet received positive reviews from critics, with a score of 77/100 on Metacritic. Richard Cobbett from PC Gamer gave the game 64/100, noting that it is "a clever, charming game", yet "it lacks the spark that makes return visits feel like a fresh adventure rather than a completionist chore".

60 of 192 · most liked firstShattered Planet is a lite rogue-like with a splash of RPG elements within. You play as Clone 001 who is instructed to teleport down to an alien planet and discover, catalog and research alien flora and fauna. Each world is randomly generated and defined by tile-based combat and movement. With each movement, “blight” will slowly engulf the level, spawning blight monsters that will often seek out and attack your player, making a hasty exit a never-ending priority for survival. At the start,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am very unsure about this game. In general its nice. The base idea is nice, the graphics are ok and its easy to play. But there are some glitches (like you cant move suddenly anymore), its not always totally logical, things are not explained well enough (or just buggy???) its very repetative since you have to farm and its mostly based on luck (a real letdown to me). Another thing is the pathfinding. Your path will be shown, but it does not mean that you character will use this path. So…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To put it bluntly, Shattered Planet is one of the worst Roguelike I ever had the displeasure to play and it's not worth the price at all, even considering this is the first game made by Kitfox, especially when they straight up abandoned it, leaving some items impossible to collect (making 100% completion not achivable if you are into that) and not fixings LOTS of bugs and glitches that plague the experience, either by being a minor annoyance or outright impeding your progress The premise of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started out as a mobile game - and that's exactly what it feels like... It's well-made, I give it that; but so is a rocking chair out of match sticks: looks nice, but is fun to use for only a short time before it lets you down. The RNG and the grindy nature scream "mobile game" and "cheap entertainment distraction on the go" and it's unbearable, if you're looking for a real game or a challenge for your wits that gives you a chance to do more than pick a direction and watch you character get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty though it is, as a roguelike, Shattered Planet should be judged primarily by its gameplay, which is sadly lacking. You can equip only one weapon and one piece of armor, plus whatever consumables you can find (and you won't find many). There's no concept of activated or even passive skills, either; gaining experience buys you stat increases only. As such, combat - and the game in general - is nearly devoid of strategy, infrequently rising above mindless clicking.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not broken, but it could use some fixing. Shattered Planet is a rogue-light. Meaning some progress carries over even when you die. It does a bunch of things pretty well - art, gear, etc. But at the same time, some of its most basic systems hamper what would otherwise be a better game. Allow me to elaborate: In Shattered Planet, you choose from one of 5 "clones". These are effectively classes. You then go into the game. There are two main modes (I am going to give you my own names for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was forgotten about as soon as it was released getting very few updates. It's not the game you are looking for. Any one looking at this game thinking. "Boy that looks fun." just look for something else. Anything else then this shallow game. I recommend Cave of Qud for the Brave and Sword of the Stars: The Pit for those looking for a complex adventure. If you want someone that is more light, perhaps look at Sproggiwood. I could go on, but I am just warning you buyers. Walk away.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro: -Many items -nice idea -i like the graphicstyle Con: -no real story -items are set at the start of a run and mostlikely wont change during it -items often dont affect the gameplay, since there is nearly no use in fighting you will always be on the run and while fighting you just click on the enemy until they die. -very grindy(to get more HP, Attack etc.), but since there is no real target it never pays off -levels are filled with bottles which have a random effect (anything from making…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others have mentioned, I feel like it's unfair to give this game a "thumbs-down." It's a solid game, with nice graphics. It's got quite a bit of content to explore, and the persistant upgrades to your character provide an incentive to keep playing, as each playthrough on its own would be a bit boring. Overall, a nice casual experience. It falls short on a few counts, however: Firstly, $15 is far too much for a game that is little more than a pleasant distraction. Shattered Planet doesn't…

After that there are 3 achievements for achieving distance milestones towards the Shattered Planet (which is past the Solar System’s Edge). If you have encountered promethium…

Encounter a monster that absolutely slaughters you. 3b. Encounter a bunch of monsters that wear you down. 4. You die. Oh no! You lose your weapon and armor forever. 5. Play a single level of the game (which you will most likely get slaughtered on, having no weapon and armor). 6. Repeat 5 until you have enough green gem things to generate a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I always like to have a game on hand that I can play for a few minutes in between other games. Caves of Qud was that for a long time (at least until I got good enough to spend hours on it), Hero of the Kingdom was perfect, and even hidden object games have filled the bill at times. Coffee break games are a fine and necessary tradition, and Shattered Planet makes a strong showing in the genre. There's no telling how long it will stay strong for you, but it's worth diving into for as long as it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mixed feelings on this one. I got it at 90% off and I think it's worth more than that if it was fixed up. For full price though? No. The game is very simple and seems to focus heavily on the dying aspect which if you see the games I play that's not an issue (looking at you PZ). You get some persistence and some gimmicks but most of the strategies seem to be - avoid everything - followed by - cheese tactic - which is okay for what it is, it just makes what appears to make up 95% of the game a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome, beautiful graphics and great gameplay. Why the downvote? On Googleplay this game is FREE. I only recommend doing what i did, getting this game on sale. I snagged it for just $2 or so because i would rather play on here then my crappy cell. Enjoy!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very lite, casual rogue. Nice sprite art, very limited scope. Gets old quick but the short time it takes to play through a round makes it a decent pick-up game during breaks. There is not much to accomplish, but aside from the 'explore' run where you are guaranteed to eventually die and lose your gear, there are 3 missions which you can actually complete to win and bring back gear if you do. On top of this is a daily challenge which gives you a chance to bring back prizes. There are two…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful "game". It's just a complete waste of time, and clearly also intended to be a waste of money. I had played this a few years back on iOS and it was clear it was just another money-grab iPhone game. Decided to try it out here and give it a second chance thinking maybe the PC version would be better. Nope. There is just nothing fun about it. There's about 75 achievements to make you FEEL as though you are having fun. An illusion of progression. This game is just a complete grindfest. There…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels like it has less to offer than your standard flash game. There is no depth, no story, and the combat is just "You hit them, then they hit you." Your character has one ability that they can use once during a run. (Unless you pay a hefty sum to upgrade) The abilities are not anything interesting. Heal yourself 30 hp. (You start with 100) Deposit an item for the cost of a large sum of money, ect. Just boring and uninspired. The reward you get for completing or dying in a run are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has been probably the first roguelike I have played as these are not my type of games I am used to play, but it was easy to learn and fun to play, a nice way to enter this genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you find it on cheap, this is a good buy. Unfortunately the more you play the easier all future play becomes, giving the game a fun half-life. Every time you play it will be less enjoyable than the last. Now, this can be said of any game, but the reason for this half-life is built directly into Shattered Planet. You take on the role of a genetically engineered clone sent to investigate a planet blown apart by some unknown event, and with your play through you earn two distinct resources.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very entertaining game for in between! It doesn't have the depth, story or special graphics, no, but it's fun and keeps you engaged, especially with the daily challenges, the different game modes and the always different looking maps. You're actually exploring an alien planet, you're a very expendable clone and you actually have zero chance of survival. Now you can make the most of it. You can improve your chances with better equipment, a higher level and good companions. In the beginning…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Widespread game crashed, and nobody care of it, even with 5 or more years lasting and multiple requests. Of course, NO refunds too. 经常有玩家出现黑屏的情况,非常普遍,但开发根本不管,偶见帮社区一些人检查log,但我这边5年了,发了很多请求和邮件连回都不回,垃圾公司
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, it's really good. It's relaxing, a great time killer, somewhat challenging and a bit cheeky at times. I've played a lot worse games with better ratings than this. It's not for spending 10h in a couple days, it's more the kind of game you start up when you don't know what to do atm. Then you go for 1 or 2 runs before letting it sit in your library until the next time you end up bored. The negatives are at the same time some of its biggest strengths: - not much of a story. - very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered Planet is a roguelite 2D iso strategy/RPG game where you explore procgen maps and grind through various stages to level up/collect resources and so on. A clone landing on a strange planet (which is just a small map of randomly placed tiles, this makes sense for dungeons but not for planets, guys, come on, think before you develop), you have to explore to survive. This is a strange example of a combination of both talented developers and completely incompetent buffoons all getting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Competent, but with zero depth. The awful grinding wouldn't be even bad if there was even a semblance of strategy or decision making anywhere in the game, but alas, this requires about as much mental engagement as any run of the mill clicker. Run around collecting currency, die, put it into linear upgrades, repeat. There doesn't seem to be any keyboard support, so have fun dealing with the repetitive strain injury from spamming left click if you choose to play this for longer periods of time.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered Planet is the first ever game made by Kitfox Games, which have a special place in my heart for making Moon Hunters and sometime this year releasing Boyfriend Dungeon. It also was the second game I played by these developers, and even though it can get repetitive and competitors might pull this kind of game off better, it still has its charm. A casual turn-based Rogue-Like for quite the cheap price if picked up on sale. Even though people say that the fact that this is a port from…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you can get it cheap enough, it's good for at least 5 hours of play. The level up system is strictly a grind that is only accessible after you die. It is very underpowered and requires hours of grinding before noticing a difference. Unlike hardcore rogue-likes, you only lose your inventory when you die. Generating equipment doesn't feel very randomized and you end up with the same garbage over and over again. You only have 2 equip slots; 1 weapon and 1 helmet. You can choose a…

You will need a very beast onboard manufacturing system. My Fusion Cube goes about 40 (it can do 120 at ful speed) when it's cutting into the Shattered Planet for prometheum, and from what I've seen from players who have made it to shattered planet, that's about the speed they're going too... and they're also making and firing nukes to get through the…

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is such a fun little rogue-like where you uncover amusing items and weapons while exploring one tiled world after another. Something will kill you eventually, but you can make friends with various creatures along the way. The bottles of colorful liquid have random effects each adventure: they can heal, poison, apply useful status effects, or blow everything up. It's not going to keep you up all night, but every adventure is an opportunity to find another inside joke or blow yourself up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is highly addictive and fun to play. I got it during this summer sale and it was well worth it. Sometimes I wish there were more difficulty modes and permanent items somehow, but maybe that is something I have yet to discover yet, and I am hoping for an expansion on this. After I realized how fun it was I immediately attempting looking it up on the phone app store. I so think this should be on more platforms. Fun, casual, and pleasantly addictive. Should be more games like this out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shattered Planet is a solid roguelike, but there's not a ton here that you won't get from any other roguelike you might play. I'd only recommend it if you're a real fiend for the genre; otherwise, just throw yourself against another roguelike you already own.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game as beautiful as it is boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A hidden gem. The gameplay loop is pretty simple - explore small procedurally-generated areas and then teleport to the next one - but the sheer variety of enemies, items, locations and events makes every trip an interesting one. There are daily challenges to change things up and get you to try items and strategies which you may not normally have considered. Add in a touch of humour and a solid presentation, and it makes for an addictive experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gets old fast, there's not enough meaningful variation to keep it interesting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfairly hard. 0ther than that, it's actually kind of fun, but definitely not worth $15.00
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a nice time-waster of a game, but I'd say definitely get it on sale. I like that I can jump in, play a round or two, and quit. It's easy to play, even though it annoys me a bit that there are no real defensive moves: you can attack, run away, or try one of your items, and that's it. The game is low-stress because dying doesn't really mean anything. Which is good, because you'll die a lot. The fun comes from collecting and trying out new items, finding new pets (which is mostly a matter of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roguelike, a rare sight in roguelite-saturated market, but horribly simplified. Core loop consists of going through a level hitting or avoiding enemies untill death or a teleport to next level is found. Main 'attraction' is collecting all items in game, which sounds boring and is so in game. Between ventured on the titular shattered planet you get to change current char. in the little hub, wherein you can craft and equip items, this is also very lacking, as only 2 slots (head, weapon) are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well I bought this game several years ago and I really tried to like it, but unfortunately it's not worth playing. First of all it lacks any kind of depth and replayability which is a must for roguelike games. Yes, it has tons of weapons and items and so on but they have no purpose and has nearly 0 impact on gameplay. I can point out at least 20-30 maybe even more titles until pointing out this game. Apart from that, this was a game that was free on android years ago(not sure if it's still…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: Nice graphics, audio and music is fine (though the typing noise in between lives is obnoxious). Interface is clean and easy to understand. Cons: Survival isn't a key mechanic at all, you're expected to die. This would be fine if it didn't make it terribly repetative. It's more rogue-lite than rogue-like. Your options for how to address a problem are very limited (hack and slash, or throw a potion and hope for the best). What you see in the first 15 minutes appears to be the whole…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever played the game 'Azure Dreams'? Shattered Planet is practically a spiritual successor to that game, only without the town storyline involved with it. In other words, it is Azure Dreams, without the roleplay aspect. OOh, don't get me wrong: there *is* a story and lore, but it's nowhere near as deep, and instead of playing a single character who mysteriously returns to your city every time you die, you play as 'Clone #1'..... or rather, you play as several million clones, *all*…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A not crappy crapper game. Play on your phone on the crapper, not on your PC. Again, it's not crappy, but the fact that it's on Steam is definitely crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is super easy and stupid addicting. It's a love/hate relationship. Great for making time pass by.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a good experience at first, some nice references and a lot to discover. But things get boring really fast when you understand how the game works, and that's not hard to do. I would rate the game a 5/10, just for the art, music and the experience I had on the first few hours. But I still not recommencing because of the lack of replayability and shallow mechanics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roll playing game with out any roll-playing. Which means it gets kind of old after a few hours. I did enjoy figuring out the various mechanics to the game, and it was pretty to look at, but in the end I wish I had spent that time on something else.
