Yes!) Joseph from the Old Testament (canonically homewrecker hot) Samson and Delilah (size difference couple)

unlabelledView post →btw the 1949 Samson and Delilah movie is predictably saggy here and there but the scene of pulling down the temple is terrific: George Sanders silently mouthing “Delilah” as he raises a glass to toast the falling pillar that’s about to turn him into marinara sauce. a 5-star scene in a 3-star film

unlabelledView post →This show was so formative for me. I got the season sets when I was in middle school 20 years ago, so I binged the entire series back then. It basically set me down the path as a future film lover with all their references to golden age. What other show would parody Samson and Delilah like that?

unlabelledView post →I appreciated the old movie footage of Samson and Delilah, though I was half expecting the climax from Saint-Saëns' opera, which really slaps. (OTOH, it has all the Orientalizing Othering of the Philistines into some sort of sexy cult. For all that it's an over the top hoot, it's also slanderous.)

unlabelledView post →Oddly enough it was the second movie featuring dot painting as part of the story I've watched this year. The first was Warwick Thornton's Samson and Delilah, a terrific film. They are both quiet, slow and methodical films that demand your attention (even as one features a ska band).

unlabelledView post →When the think about it, the film Tangled is a kind of reverse Samson and Delilah. (Not really.)
unlabelledView post →This movie sort of has a cameo in Sunset Boulevard (1950) as well. When the character of Norma Jennings visits DeMille on the Paramount Pictures soundstages, the scene was shot on an actual set for Samson and Delilah.
unlabelledView post →You may think Castaway is bad or male gazey blah blah, but it’s a fairly solid film, Roeg and pompous criticism tossed aside. There’s only two films I don’t think are that great. Sweet Bird of Youth and Samson and Delilah. Everything else is brilliant. Heart of Darkenss in particular is fantastic.
