60 of 88 · most liked firstI am old time fan of AGEOD and their games are not too easy to learn, but when you do, then you are rewarded for it greatly. This game ( I will call it RUS Gold) is a standard type of AGEOD games that is using the a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system). This means that both sides are giving orders and they are executed together when you hit next turn. You get a lot of playtime in this one as it has Grand Russian Civil War scenario (1918) the Russian-Polish war (1920) and a what if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If your eyes glazed over in high school when they were describing these particular events, this is your chance to make sense out of it. You'll see the Russian Civil War unfold two weeks at a time in all of its confusing glory. Dr. Zhivago, Quiet Flows the Don, and Riley Ace of Spies will finally have some historical context. There are a few (maybe all of two) games out there that touch on this subject with single scenarios, but this is the only game that concentrates on giving you the whole…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to start with the fact that I have never been a fan of AGEOD. I find their games very complicated and require huge time investments due to the steep learning curve... However, this game has made a fan out of me. After spending about 5 hours in tutorials, the game manual and replaying the Grand Campaign, I can finally say I understand how to play Revolution Under Siege. And what is under the hood of this game is simply amazing. An epic, period-piece soundtrack, indepth game mechanics that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Difficult game to learn, I've played games just like it in the past like "Commander The Great War". Very in depth including food and water supply, captured equipement, unit orders, special events, etc. There are many different scenarios and specific unit supply and manpower lists (Love seeing the specific ammount, 340 men, 500 men per reg and etc). You can play as both sides, whites and reds, and turn the tide of war and history! I highly reccomend this game to people who love a Micromanaging,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolute masterpiece. Takes a bit of time to get used to the interface, which is my least favourite of the AGeod games I played so far. If you struggle with the honestly not very deep tutorials (but how can you make a tutorial for such a deep, complicated and engrossing game) please head to the Ageod forums and you will find the best gamers community out there and very useful tips) but I had such a great time with it! Ageod games are for hardcore fans of history who want to relieve how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an absolutely awesome rendition of the Russian Civil War. The game is complex, true. But read the manual and learn it well, once you start winning armies, taking cities and crushing those fascist whites, you'll love it! The amount of detail put into tooltips is unbelievable, and yes you can also play as the "Whites" but why would you want to!?! The tutorial/manual is a must, but even someone like myself with ADHD has completely fallen in love with the game. Just got my first victory in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly a decent game, but after spending 2 hours trying to figure out the user interface and going through the tutorials, I am going to simply give up. Comparatively, I found the user interface for Hearts of Iron 2 and HOI3 to be child’s play. I don't know how the developers ever devised such a bad control scheme, it's simply horrendous and not intuitive in the least. I still have no idea how to set up armies or even build units after reading the manual and playing for a while. I don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the setting and the concept and what little I played was fun, but this game crashes constantly. I can't get past the fourth turn on any scenario. Ended up refunding, but if the developers put out a patch that fixes the frequent WIndows 10 crashing I'll buy it again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe it's a bit hard to learn but at the same time it's very deep and historical. Just pass the tutorial, read the Manual and you will like it. Even though it's a turn-based game that could be an obstacle for paradox fans don't be afraid to check this out. You won't be disappointed. I've been playing this game for years and i still enjoy it. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game, the Russian Civil War is largely ignored in history despite being one of the most deadliest conflicts in history with more Russians dying in the civil war than WWI itself, I have never came across a GOOD game with this topic. Although this game might seem hard and unplayable at first (if you are new to AGEOD game style), which I have had the opportunity of experiencing it is only when I came back and played around with the mechanics that I got the game. Honestly it is very simple,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RUS GOLD is a game I play through starting from vanilla version. I learned a lot playing these games. After playing it did encourage me to search for more books about Russian civil war. I can easily recommend as it is very solid game even after many years , If games are educational this is perfect example.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game in every way. Map, gameplay, historical accuracy, ease of use. You will need patience to learn this (like any AGEOD game), but the time invested is well worth it. Once the mechanics are grasped, you can concentrate on strategy. A fascinating historical period, and a fascinating experience playing the game.Highly recommended for anybody of average intelligence who enjoys history.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original was my favourite AGE game, and the gold version is even better with graphics improvements, events and decisions aplenty. The vast expanses, relatively small forces, and strategic and logistic importance of railways and rivers combine to offer a uniquely challenging operational environment. Once you master the basics, the AI will appear a bit daft, but that's what human opponents are for! It's not just the Russian Civil War, either - there's also the Polish-Soviet War, Finnish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has the best music you will ever listen to while playing a video game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a great shame that the russian civel war is a very overlooked piece of history in video games (outside of mods) at least this one makes the attempt to crack the mold :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've just bought this game and love it. Ths game is basically the set-up as the American Civil War. (Same company who made American Civil War) As a student and teacher of history, I must confuse: I am weak in this area of history. Now, I have this game, this will force me to learn more. Again, I give this game the thumbs up. CommissarBRO is correct about all he said about this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My armies stumble accross the steppes, battered and broken from months of freezing winter, lack of supplies and food. The Bolshevik armies have driven me away to the last bastion of sanity and civilization in Russia, Rostov. For a moment, all seems lost to me, Tuchachevsky and Trotsky are advancing on Rostov against my pitiful army and any reinforcements are months away. I fortify Rostov and hope for the best, retreat not being an option, except Suddenly Tuchachevsky is called to another area,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally a game that depicts the Russian Civil war involving the Entente(USA, France, England,Italy) and other countries that tried to stop the Russian Revolution but failed. This game shows the great odds the REDs faced but in the end prevailed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best AGEOD titles, and due to the nature of the conflict and how it's presented in game it manages to be one of the best realised operational wargames I've played.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Over-all I'm fairly on the fence as far as AGEOD games go. It took me years to honestly find them that particularly interesting, and their older games had serious preformance issues in terms of turn time. I can safely say Revolution under Siege addresses at least the technical flaws. The game takes place during the Russian Civil War and depicts a fairly accurate, and fair representation of both sides and historical/a-historical events. A number of the scenarios in the game are actually fairly…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, this game is buggy as hell. It is not optimized for multicore processors and runs pretty badly, very choppy when navigating the map at a long zoom The gameplay is very obscure, unfortunately the tutorials dont do a good job of giving you any of the subtleties of the game. One problem I had was that the tutorial also doesnt recognizr when you do something right. You can just skip past it. So you have no idea if you did what it said properly. The gameplay revolves around a turnbased…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All excitement ends when You try to play actual game after You finish tutorials. I did try grand campaign with AI turned off and if and You might think that it makes the game "easy", Well, it does not. Managing the order of battle (OOB) in this game is very complicated and will produce very strange results, like corps with a size of an army group (represented as XXXXX in the troop browser) and the army that is of size of brigade. The problem lies in the AGE engine that is designed around the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a lot of depth to this game which helped me understand the Russian Civil War much better. First, the ability to play different sides aids understanding of the strategic difficulties that the Red Army, Eastern Whites and Western Whites faced. The developers were very clever in their linkage of different maps to portray the vast space of Russia and the logistical challenges of supplying and moving armies. I learned a lot playing this and it renewed my interest in the era and learning…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only one in the world Russian Civil War strategy with serious approach. Yes it's bugged as hell, the engine is outdated, a lot of things are not obvious, etc etc But it's the only game about Russian Civil War and it is actually deep, and you can play it and you can enjoy it. 7\10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Revolution under Siege is a great game, and I had fun playing it, but it crashes so often. I'd say about every 3 turns or less it crashes. So if the main campaign is 86 turns long, that means you are bound to encounter at least 28 crashes. It gets REALLY annoying. If you forget to save one turn, you might have to redo it entirely. God help you if you won during a turn and then it crashes, because now you'll have to pray the game agrees to let you win again. Other than that its a very typical…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do like this game and setting, but i dont recommend it in current state: i meet lack of optimization and many bugs (especially critical - crashs and out of memory). So i stopped playing and wait fixes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: I changed this to a thumb's up recommend. the learning curve is steep but it's a very satisfying board game. Deeply complex. I am still at the beginning of my first grand campaign but it was satisfying to have everything click just as I was holding Ekaterinburg and was able to beat off the massive attackers. Thumb's up if you are into really complex military simulations. But reading/skimming the manual is a must. ********************************* It's pretty dense. I want to like…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite game by Ageod. Reminds me of the game Red Star, White Star by SSI back in my boardgaming years. The game is a difficult struggle for the Whites and also the Reds. There are actually 3 playable factions: The Reds, the Siberian Whites, and Southern Whites. There is also a developer mod on the Ageod forums for playing Ukraine. Minor factions are the Greens, the Anarchists (black), the Baltic and Caucausus states, Finland, and Poland, not to mention the Foreign powers intervening…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it a lot - while it suffers from the problems of the AGEOD engine, mainly (avoidable but inconvenient) crashes, it's a lot of fun in single-player and PBEM, and it's the only computer game I've found that does a really good job of - at least the military aspects of - the Russian Civil War.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game where you don't give a fig who wins.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The least optimised game I ever saw in my whole life. 25 FPS with drops on i5 2500k + 16 gigs of memory + gtx 760. I also tried getting my money refunded for it, but Valve just took away the game from my Steam account without actually giving me my money back. As far as I'm concerned, that's theft.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There exists no better simulation of the Russian Revolution than Revolution Under Siege. I am surprised by how absolute the attention to detail is. Kolchak, Kornilov, Timoshenko, and even the then Commisar Stalin are all accurately represented by counters demonstrating their various traits and leadership abilities. The game has a steep learning curve, but this challenge does not take away the fun from the campaigns themselves. I have had this game in my possession for quite some time, and I am…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty surprised at how much I've enjoyed this game, after getting it and a bunch of other AGEOD games in a bundle. This is apparently one of their more complex games but I was able to get the game working and, while I still wouldn't say I've mastered the interface, I've probably picked it up faster than I picked up the EU4 or CK2 interfaces (which I think are the closest comparisons). The diplomacy, decisions, etc systems are cool and add a lot of flavor to the game that sets it apart from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AMAZING GAME, GREAT TUTORIAL AND MANUAL, VERY GOOD FOR START LEARNING GREAT STRATEGY GAME.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far I have enjoyed the game greatly. Very much like To End all Wars the WW1 game by the same people. Unfourtanately the game has proven rather unstable. I am still unsure if it is the game or something on my end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is really nice that AGEOD games like to take on unique historical events that otherwise do not get much attention, but they always design their games in way that filter alot of people. There is no real way to really learn this game by just playing it as all of the play starts throw the player right in the action as a major faction of the war. Every faction has lots of fronts, supply chains and political screens to manage right from the first turn. No small countries with less to manage or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first impression with RUS is... terrible. An unoptimized system. Poorly scale texts. Euro jank at it worst. Even the tutorial is painfully to go through. And by gods, you need to go through the tutorial to understand how to play the damn game. RUS, however, did have some saving grace. It is the only game (as far as i know) that focus on the Russian Civil War. It have depth and unique mechanics that once you understand, it will be a very enjoyable game (if it not crash or freeze). And a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only game out there that covers the Russian Civil War. Guess when there is no competition this game becomes recommenable but be warned of incesssant crashes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to leave a negative review, as I do sincerely enjoy the game, but the amount of technical mistakes is just unacceptable. Just experienced yet another(10th? 12th? 16th? I have honestly lost count) crash, and now I have to redo(I saved numerous times prior to the crash, but I guess that turn got corrupted and thus it reset me to the previous turn) my entire turn(a 30 minute exercise for me as I'm bit a meticulous) and then cross my fingers and hope it doesn't crash again during the turn…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the penultimate version of the Ageod platform before they turned to their new "streamlined" interface which achieved nothing but complicate the game and also look ugly. The last is Spanish Civil War "España 1936". Together with American Civil War (the old, 2007 version) I consider this to be the high point of Ageod games, and in my opinion you should start out with these versions instead of wasting your money on the buggy and doubtful releases they are now throwing out every few months.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my opinion, the very best of AGEOD's games. It simulates the "railroad war" nature of the conflict very well. Difficult to learn but rewarding to master, it offers many interesting branching paths, difficult to achieve challenges (like taking Tsaritsyn as the Western Whites before 1919, keeping the KOMUCH alive or seizing the gold train as the Eastern Whites, or embracing World Revolution to its fullest extent as the Reds). along with "stretch goals" if you're steamrolling the opponent (like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Always challenging, always different. Captures the broad sweep of revolutionary Russia. System takes a little getting use to (as do all AGEOD games. Highly recommended comrade!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite stategy games of all time. (I played the pre-Gold, pre-Steam version of this game for many, many hours, both against the AI and against other players.) If you are not familiar with AGEOD games, go to their website and read some game tip threads and AARs (Revolution under Siege also has some great AARs in the Paradox forum as well). To play the game, play the Finland tutorial scenario first several times (as Finland) to start getting the hang of the game with much fewer units,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Revolution Under Siege is probably the grandest grand strategy I've ever played. Despite focusing on only one war and its consequences, it manages to have perhaps the most strategic options I've seen in a game of its kind. Everything from farmlands and supply lines of ammunition and food, to the harsh Russian winter and epidemics, to home politics, popular support on a provincial basis, and repression is implemented. Unlike with other strategy games, I have never had a single moment where I've…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't been able to play since installation and initial usage. Game loads in spanish.. Can't get support from anyone.. Wouldn't recommend this game do to glitch..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't find this fun unlike other AGEOD games I've tried. It seems to lack direction. There's less in the way of goals. And most of the guided effort seems to have gone into teaching you the history of the setting; as they probably assumed they needed to. But even that's done strangely because one article will teach you what happened in history at times completely irrelevant to the turn you land on. It's just boring overall, despite playing smoother than a lot of other AGEOD games that are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game!!! Takes some time to learn, if you are having trouble just watch some tutorials on YT. Probably the only one covering the Russian Civil War. Great game!!! 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very good game. It's only failing is a very steep learning curve, and a tendency to crash a bit too often on turn resolve. Thankfully, the game saves previous turns, and you can easily load up again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only game (for now) to take interest in this capital period of modern history. Just for that, it's already a must-try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is kind of way beyond my skill level but its also clearly well made and someone who is interested in the history of the russian civil war will love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There aren't a lot of games about the Russian Civil War, good game :D and I love the alternaitve history of Central Powers against the Reds. :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun to play if you like these types of game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes at almost every turn, not worth buying until they fix this critical bug!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun, especially for big history fans!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best strategy games ever made. You need to put in the effort to learn it and I love the engine along with all the old ageod games. I highly recommend this game the developers deserve the support. It is a CRIME that this game does not have a very positive.
