It's Volition at its most explicitly pro-worker and anti-capitalist, reacting to a financial crisis with a still-resonant tale of a violent and necessary worker uprising.
unlabelledView post →I also played some Red Faction Guerilla last night and wow, in terms of sheer chaos and spectacle that game holds up beautifully. It still feels great to smash and blast your way through everything while huge firefights and multicar pileups happen around you.
unlabelledView post →I've always wanted a new Red Faction game. I just, y'know, wasn't expecting Donkey Kong to be in it

unlabelledView post →10/10 Red Faction (2001) – old game with some real ancient wisdom hidden in the explosions Feb 14, 2026. Im 42, been stuck in the same dull routine: work, home, scroll, crash. Felt like my life was one long hallway with no doors out. Nothin dramatic, just kinda trapped ya know? Saw Red Faction on sale for next to nothing. Thought eh, old boomer shooter might kill some time. Started playing. Parkers just a miner on Mars. Ultor promised big bucks, gave him crap instead. He sees a guard kill his…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand why this game isn't getting more coverage. It's using Havoc physics, so it's classic Red Faction Guerilla tier environment destruction. The falling chunks actually do damage/stun to enemies, so the central combat loop is all about blowing shit up. It's intoxicating.

unlabelledView post →I waited a while before picking one up as the games on European launch later in 2000 didn't immediately catch my eye. But then, as things like Red Faction came out and MGS2 and AC4 were on the horizon, it felt like the time was ripe to jump onto one PS2 and a 3 game bundle from GameStation for £299
unlabelledView post →Posting a positive review to balance out the guy who called this a Half-Life clone but turned off comments because criticism hurts feelings, I guess. This pioneered destructible environments, has a completely different plot, takes place on a completely different planet, uses different physics, and incorporates vehicles for both land and water. If by "clone" you mean "FPS that also had similar era-specific graphics and era-specific FPS control feel," sure buddy, it's a clone.

unlabelledView post →A little "easter egg" from a game Red Faction II (Volition, 2002). Not sure if this was in the design spec, but I winder how many players did actually stop to read this sign. #Gaming #RedFaction
unlabelledView post →I for one am very much looking forward to playing Red Faction Gorilla.
unlabelledView post →No game has done absolute carnage like Control, each room can be reduced to rubble, especially during the hectic combat encounters. Red Faction Guerilla is one of a kind in that regard as well, where destruction is THE POINT of the whole game. youtu.be/ox5NOqOkg64?...
unlabelledView post →Red Faction is a proper example of an fps game of the 2000 era. Cheesy lines and plot, a lot of action and many different locations to fight. A nice variety of weapons to choose from to keep you engaged and not let the gameplay feel stale while the same time some small parts of the game provide the chance for a different approach such as stealth, undercover and a few very simple puzzles. The background music is at times full of energy and accompanies the action packed game very well, while…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m not sure if I’ve ever laughed harder in my life playing a game than I did with Red Faction Guerrilla’s absurd powerups and ragdoll hammer fights in multiplayer

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Think part of what's working for me with Mad Max (2015) is that it's a big open-world game, sure, but it has a similar gameplay loop to Red Faction: Guerilla, where you're just driving around looking for shit to blow up in very satisfying ways. Rinse, repeat, yes, but in satisfying ways.
unlabelledView post →I'm damn sorry to hear about the closure of Volition, the video game studio that created Descent, Red Faction, and Saints Row. I have a number of friends who worked there over the years, and my heart's with those who lost their jobs today. I hope they land in even better places.
unlabelledView post →So... Red Faction II is a 3.5hr game... I'm considering restarting from the beginning and try to rack up "Heroic points" for the best ending. We'll see if I play it through on Tuesday. Or I could shorten it and have a (hopefully) full session Thursday.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game a lot. Red Faction is one of those games I've returned to several times over the years since its release. I bought it on PS2 when it was released, bought the emulated version on PS3, and the enhanced emulated version on PS4. There's something about it that keeps me hooked. I think it's the sound design combined with the geo-mod features, along with the fascist Mars setting. All these things combine to elevate the package from the mediocrity that it would have been stuck in…

unlabelledView post →You can fix the biggest technical problems with the game and give it a solid resolution by using Alpine Faction, and I give massive credit to its developers because of how easy it is to install and set up. With it this game goes from like 2/10 to like 3/10. Unfortunately, Red Faction is a very poor game. It actually has several things going for it like appealing visuals and sound (at least if you're into classic 3d shooters of course) and, of all things, the vehicle sections are awesome and…

It's so damn good. Please play coop with me. It's like Armored Core + Nier Automata + Red Faction Guerilla + maybe a little smidge of Death Stranding even??
unlabelledView post →This game takes me back to my childhood, around the time I was 10 years old. And honestly, I don’t know why, but I feel like it looked alot better on a CRT monitor back then! xD Still, it’s a fun game to revisit. Since it was made for prehistoric hardware, you’ll need to go through a few extra steps after installing it to get it running, but they’re simple and don’t require any special skills. As for the game itself, the story is pretty basic but still interesting. The level design is simple,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best of the series -second best is Guerrilla...but damn, the rest are garbage...especially RF2 Such a shame the original is not more popular
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The environmental destructibility in Red Faction Guerrilla should've been as landmark a moment in open-world game design as anything in GTA III.
unlabelledView post →I've been playing this game since 2002 on PS2. Beaten it on console and PC, honestly >100 times. To the point that I can speedrun without any hacks in 1h something. It's perfect blend of action, SF and immersion. Not without its cons but every story-driven FPS lover should play it!. Install Alpine Faction first in 2026! PROS: - OST by Dan Wentz is 2000 SF peak which I still love to listen to on its own - destruction waaay before it was popular - atmosphere is mix of Total Recall and Half-Life…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The voice acting is peak early 2000s cheese, but it only adds to the “Die Hard on Mars” charm. Twenty years later and modern games still can’t replicate the joy of mining your own escape route like a red planet rat with C4.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9. Red Faction was so good for its time. First game I played that had destructible environment as well.
unlabelledView post →Red Faction Guerilla. The destruction physics in that game are still really impressive to me.
unlabelledView post →Jake Mason feels like it should be one of the top generic names out there but I've literally never met another one. The only one I've ever seen in any media is in the Red Faction movie, the SyFy channel original movie sequel to a video game I love Red Faction Guerilla

unlabelledView post →Day 5: Game that makes you throw controllers? Hmm, I'm pretty chilled when gaming, but I guess if I had to choose one that I found far too difficult, the later levels of the original Red Faction game xD I played a lot as a kid, but going back to it, holy hell it was unforgiving

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is unplayable without community fixes. Basically you get hard-locked when your submarine explodes because your FPS are too high and bug the game. Destructive environment is quite impressive. Shame that it is rarely encouraged after first level. There is a huge weapon variety, each with alternative fire mode. I feel like game have problems with timing appearances of the new weapons. Once i got like 4 new types within 5 minutes which was quite overwhelming. Soft locking happens way too…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic I didn't have the pleasure to play back in its days. I'm happy I've caught up to it. It's not a revolutionary game (pun intended) but still enjoyable. Pretty good map variety and playability, the destruction engine is cool and makes some awesome speedrunning strats possible. Towards the end the difficulty curve spikes up quite a bit, with enemies who can pretty much one shot you in a fraction of a second, thus requiring a frequent use of the quick save button. Same goes for the final…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →15. Red Faction Still the coolest explosion and destruction physics I've ever seen, I used to make a whole game out of recreating levels out of mining the walls with explosives. Fantastic story and characters, perfect FPS and amazing puzzle platformer, and has a top tier pistol 😎
unlabelledView post →I love psx aesthetics but I'm pretty much done with it since every other game (especially boomer shooters) goes for that art style I crave more cartooney games like XIII, Red Faction 2 or Dredd vs Death (2001-2003). I used to hate this look yet here I am.
