I joined an 8v8 TDM and after i died I was forcibly moved to Spectator mode and didnt respawn and my slot was instantly filled by someone else. In 2026, the few remaining 'full' servers are essentially private clubs. If you aren't a regular, admins will snatch your active spot mid-match to make room for their friends. The current…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game itself plays great, but the community’s a nightmare. Mostly 40 year old tryhards who’ll kick you for breathing wrong. You can’t even improve when you’re booted every match for not having a thousand hours. Great game, ruined by toxic fossils.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Modern shooters: “Here’s a story, some leveling up, and a battle pass.” Quake Live: “Here’s a rocket to the face. Good luck surviving.”
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's the best version of quake still "playable" online, but the community has devolved into complete insufferability. This game is now wholly and solely played by cheaters, trolls and griefers of all kinds. People will spam music and audio snippets non stop during matches, the few servers will be all full and the queue times will be unberable. You WILL be kicked from servers for no reason. Or because you 've killed someone. Or because you didn't respect an imaginary etiquette. Oh and also the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i wish people never stopped playing arena shooters like quake / unreal tournament / painkiller, etc. it's still truly the peak of pure fps skill, strategy, and movement all in one. if quake had the popularity of CS, I think we'd be peaking as a civilization instead. listen to some oldskool jungle, get ridiculously stoned and play some instagib. you're welcome. RIP quake, rapha stayed dominating everything till the end!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but the community is pure dog water. There is a ctf server ran by a guy named magdoll and if your even remotely better than him he will ban you and claim you said stuff about his kids. just a really ignorant guy, him and his small pp group cant handle losing , with that said his wife has to have the IQ of a cockroach to reproduce with him. Altho hes stated several times he likes to watch his wife get pipped by others so im assuming thats why she deals with him
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Are you over 35 years old? Do you remember LimeWire? Did you use AOL Instant Messenger? Do you take multiple ibuprofen daily? If you answered yes to these questions, this game is for you!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When a game has dwindling player numbers, the dev/pub typically decides to go F2P. Quake Live was already free to play so Bethesda made the genius decision to start charging for it. This did nothing to fix the small player count but at least you don't have to login to see the lack of servers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game BUT its dead. Its dead because of the policy and because of the mentality of the players. I joined the first time after like 10 years, and ofc I played bad. Players voted to kick me after 1 minute. You all killed this game. You stupid mentality killed this game. Do not buy it until you're pro
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this had so much potential to be the definitive replacement and modern way of playing quake 3. it was once free and was made paid when it hit steam apparently. all the servers are just 50 year olds gatekeeping, i joined this dumb server that was just lightning gun only, got death threats and slurs and voted out in less than a minute. lmao it is also abandoned, left in a buggy state. dont bother unless you got people willing to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm pretty sure the game consists of 50 year olds just dunking on people since the og quake and spamming soundboards. It's the peak kind of players to play with
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i forced all of my friends to try this game, and they hated it 👍
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pls play this game it is the highest skill ceiling fps game you can play and it will make you good at literally everything else
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you didn't grow up playing Quake, you wouldn't get it. Modern FPS's outshine it in some ways, and yet I still come back to this punishing, fast-paced shooter. I doubt anyone under 35 plays this game, and if they do, good for you son.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been seeing a lot of people stripping everything from their games (Looking at you QUAKE LIVE PLAYERS.) and wanted to add something like that as a setting (for competitiveness of course.)^^ #indiegame #gamedev
unlabelledView post →play quake 3 arena with znudge mod instead if you dont live in the EU or US. this game has practically zero lag compensation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is the only fps game i want to play but it's also cancer since im playing against what are essentially retired esports veterans with nothing better to do
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake Live: The Biological Control System and the Algebra of Need The machine doesn’t just play; it whispers. A low-frequency hum vibrating through the floorboards of the Interzone, crawling up the spine to nest in the cerebellum. Quake Live is not a game. It is a viral strain of pure geometry designed to strip the "Soft Machine"—that moist, slow, human organism—down to its raw, twitching nerves. The Geography of the Cage The arenas—are not architecture; they are diagrams of a terminal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fun. however, expect to get kicked alot because ppl don't like that you aren't good at the game or won't follow whatever rules without explaining, this is very unfriendly towards casual or new players, this game is mostly for toxic tryhards who don't like that they aren't winning and try to laugh at how bad u are and then get pissy when you clap back and mute u. it also has very low player count, so don't expect to get into many games because this game is mostly dead. however if…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: You will NOT win at this game until you've played for a couple hundred hours. Don't play if you hate losing! However, it is a game that's very fun to lose at. You respawn very quickly and there's almost no punishment for getting fragged. Trying again and again and gradually getting better each time and slowly rising the leaderboards with each game you play is a very fun and rewarding experience imo. And once you reach the level of skill where you're able to keep up with other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →please play an afps-like that pushes the envelope, at all, and not recycled quake 3 gameplay. reflex, cpma, and champions are all free. the netcode is also dogass. pretty much only played by people scared of change atp
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid game, even in 2026. Snappy, crisp aiming, physics, hit detection, netcode. A+
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my opinion, Quake III Arena remains the best Quake game ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake 3 arena but better, feels really rewarding to get better at this game but it's very hard to do so due to how many years your opponents have played for. The playerbase is basically only 40 year olds that have played for decades and now hop on railgun only servers with their homies at the retirement home. Quake and other Arena shooters are in the same spot as older fighting games. New players try it out but get stomped by the older players, New players ask for advice but get told to piss…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Competitive FPS games peaked with Quake Live. John Carmack had the time to optimize Quake 3's networking, rendering, physics, performance, etc. It was virtually flawless. No game since has been even close which blows my mind. It's the 1999 movies problem for games. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU6v...
unlabelledView post →It's just like Quake 3 but actually user friendly on modern PC's, or more user friendly at least. It is a little wonky with tracking achievements and stats in general, but once the settings are set and everything is settled, it is a fun game to 100%.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of Quake III Arena on the dreamcast, this hits home and delivers the same experience arena did, I do highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake Live is not just "still good." Quake Live is the purest, most perfectly balanced, most skill-rewarding multiplayer FPS ever created, and nothing released in the last 25 years has managed to dethrone it. This is the real Quake III Arena experience, polished to a mirror sheen, kept alive with modern netcode, 120+ FPS support, native 1440p/4K, ultrawide, raw input, and a matchmaking system that actually works. The core gameplay hasn't been watered down, casualized, or bloated with battle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perhaps the greatest arena shooter of all time. Requires dedication to get good, but it's worth it. Dedicated servers = community.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the marketing video does justice of what quake is all about. it's all about skill. it's all about flow state.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really really stupid Bethesda decided to put a paywall on what was once a free game you could play in a web browser. Greed trumps all. Quake Live was such a good way to play Quake 3 easily for free online on modern PC's. Now who wants to pay $10 to play an old game where you'll be gatekeeped by the old heads who have nothing else to do all day but play the same game for thousands of hours and you will have no fun because no new players want to join the community?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →QuakeLive is a super fun game that does have a big learning curve. The commnunity is very inviting and helpful. If you have played any other quake games for any amount of time, you shoiuld pick it right back up. A++ rating. Fast, fun, friendly gameplay, I tell you hwat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This old game is still one of the best first-person shooters around. Fast and fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didnt this game used to be free?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →settings dont stick... .. people spam music.. can't mute plaers..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake Live is like going to a nursing home filled with ex esports players and getting beaten by them if you breathe near them.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't listen to people. There's enough players out there. Might be hard at first, but once You get a hang of it it's the best effin gameplay ever. But most importantly - play clan arena - that's where the real fun is and it never gets old.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Used to play the browser version over a decade ago still pretty fun if you can find a game! oh also quaking it live
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doom/Quake deathmatch I feel is an experience that not many other games have successfully replicated. The movement feels really good, you have a strong, diverse arsenal of weapons, and (at least in this game) loads of gamemodes and maps to choose from. If you like fast-paced combat and dopamine then you would probably like this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positives: - Attractive female characters. - Steam Workshop Support. Negatives: - No single player campaign. The lack of a single player campaign just kills it for me. Just having a pre-set sequence of bot matches that takes you through all the maps, or some kind of simulated tournament vs. bots where you play through a series of increasingly challenging matches to take the championship trophy at the end would have been enough.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best quake game ever
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no matter how much time passes and what i play, i always end up going back to quake
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun. Not very active though. I wish there was some kind of quake-like arena shooter i could play that had a more active player base.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has no anti-cheat. You draw the conclusions of what happens.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my first quake game and I wanted to share my thoughts. For $10 you truly get a lot of content even if you just want to play against bots and chill while listening to music. There are SO many maps.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake Live follows the story of a very homicidal man who likes in their free time kill a bunch of their friends in weird space platforms and medieval castle things. They also like collecting random flags, but only the opposite color. Their flag is fine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fps version of melee. if you can handle the first 150 hours of getting completely violated by people who have been playing for over 20 years, you are graced with some of the most chaotic fast paced fps fun of all time. it gets better i swear.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting bent over by men in their 50's. Is this a gay porno or a video game- That said this is a fun game with a strong and dedicated community.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →лучшее чем Quake champions, так еще в добавок стал платным лол
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THIS GAME IS HELL THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH GOD HIMSELF
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cause it is game of m childhood, a lot of hours were spend in computer clubs and a lot of funny moments there. It is not just a game. It is part of our culture already
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you are bad at this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake III with a teen rating, gameplay is solid as expected
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like to shoot things. In this game I shoot things, and additionally in style that's why it is better than 90% of multiplayer shooters
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very solid arena shooter, great for people just wanting to dip their toes in the genre. Well rounded and good on all fronts. Most of the players online are pretty good at the game already but don't let that discourage you from playing the game with friends or offline with bots. Don't be afraid to ask for help either. We all gotta start somewhere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has been a long time since I played Quake 3 and now I suck at it but this brought back some nostalgia. It has been too long for me to give a fair comparison between the two but this is certainly fun to run around and frag in even today when I'm super rusty at arena shooters. Just be prepared to get rocked unless you want to put in the time as arena shooters have a very high skill ceiling.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quake Live could honestly be the best competitive game in the world, if only they fixed the spawn system to be less abusable and snowbally.
unlabelledView post →no matter what I do (10+ hours trying) I just can't get this game to run properly. FPS drops, tearing, input lag. the works. giving up. RIP Quake 3. yet another thing Bethesda ruined.
