Potatoman Seeks the Troof
Developer Pixeljam
Potatoman Seeks the Troof is a humorous and philosophical 2012 Flash platformer from American game developer PixelJAM Games. It was included as one of 7 "Digital Select" titles for the IndieCade independent games festival in 2013 and received an honorable mention at the Independent Games Festival 2014 (but no nomination). The protagonist of the game—a potato—solves puzzles while roaming through desert wastelands,… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short seemingly random game, which can be debunked after a few tries. It surprises players, and doesn't overstay its welcome. Not so random after all PStT has seven unique short levels, in which it tries to overwhelm the player with mechanics that can easily be beaten after a few tries. The mechanics are used only once in their version, so there is no repetition. You have unlimited tries for every level. There is an achievement for beating the game within a set amount of lives for each…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Potatoman Seeks the Troof is genuinely atrocious, and does not hold up one bit for the present day. It's the exact game you'd expect with from the early 2010s, rage platformer that's clear youtuber bait with "rawr xd aren't we so quirky" writing. Just skip, unless you're really itching to go back to the 2010s.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel nothing having completed it. I felt nothing playing it, other than a bit of frustration in a few of the trickier sections. It wasn't worth the time it took to play it, let alone spending any money on it. Thankfully it's both short and cheap, so you're unlikely to be out too much of either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage. All the effort went to the pixel art. The game is just awful randomness.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Fun Atari style aesthetic -Music is great -Has a sense of humor My only criticism is that there's no way to save your game. If you lose all of your lives or if you close out then you have to start from the very beginning again, which stinks because some of the platforming and tricks thrown at the player can be hard. It is in keeping with the nature of classic video games though (like leaving an NES running to "save"), and I don't think the game is that long anyway, so I can't be too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool, little platformer game that can be really frustrating, especially if you want to get all of the achievements in it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of those annoying hell games you shouldn't bother with unless you're masochistic. On the plus side, it's really short. ...Wait, is that the troof? Pain is only temporary? ★★★☆☆ Really makes you think.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Potatoman Seeks The Troof is a comedic platformer, with a zany tone. Story: You play as Potatoman and one day he decides to seek out the troof, all while someone tries to stop your search for the troof. That's basically all there is to the story, it's not a center piece and is just there as a backdrop for your journey. Every area you visit you encounter a bunch of characters trying to stop your search for the troof as they how stupid it is and stuff like that. I mean the writing itself is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once I knew the troof, I immediately went to bed. That night I slept without realizing that my life would never be the same again. I had experienced the peak of videogame perfection, and I haven't been able to enjoy another game ever since. It was a very deep and touching experience.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Potatoman is still missing to this day. If you have any information, please contact your local police department immediately. Thank you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend actually paying money for this game. If you happen to get it for free or as part of a bundle... still probably not worth your time unless you're an achievement hunter who wants a quick game to add to your perfect list. If you're decent at platformers, you should easily be able to 100% this game in under an hour, even though it requires two separate playthroughs. This doesn't feel like a finished game. It feels like a promising tech demo. I like how the potatoman controls, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best 20 mins I've spent in my lifetime. I'm so glad my boy @DaddySniper_ kept me up until 2am to play this game. Basically, we were just laughing at random photos of him, then he was like "oi, tell me when to stop and we'll play the game my cursor lands on" and I responded, "Ok, sure!" As we were giggling at the thought of what it could land on, I said, "Stop!", and it landed on some stupid game nobody cares about. So we rolled again, and I said "Stop!" again, only this time, it was an even…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of today, Super Mario Bros. (1993) is the 511th best game of all time according to me, directly below Potatoman Seeks the Troof and directly above Little Big Planet: Metal Gear Solid Content pack. It is part of Tier 22. There are 25 tiers and 586 games in the list #PixelRankings
unlabelledView post →KAMGUSTA's MINI REVIEW It's a 2012 web browser game with old school pixelated graphics and basic mechanics (move and jump). It may remind of some super old C64's platformers, like "Jungle Hunt". The obstacle patterns are almost random so it can pose quite a challenge, albeit a short one. Some humor helps you to keep on going. I would recommend it only to nostalgics (in that case, add 2 to the score). Best played with keyboard (like in ol' goo' times) Recommended buy price: free Score: 4,5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw this game and knew I had to get it. I had to find THE TROOF. And find the Troof I did. I even cried a little along the way. I recommend this for anyone who is looking for a short and sweet platformer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the most influential game of the century
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has achieved one thing : make me think better about what I buy. Because this was garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not challenging because it's a precision platformer, it's challenging because of randomness and gotcha moments.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat this game on my first attempt. Somehow.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Potatoman died when I played it. It was very traumatic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm surprised this game has that many positive reviews. I won't be giving it one. I suppose if you like it, good for you. Perspective of things (anything) is subjective. But this isn't my type of game. It's starts off with a direct copy of The Dino Game we all know from google when there's no service. Phase 1 doesn't change much it all. I know it gets better, but it's starts of as a copy. Also way too difficult. I beat it without dying, but it's really more work than required. Not worth the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(game not complete at .2 hours of gameplay at time of review, part of my review all my games effort) (short version) I would have recommended this if it had some type of save function, as is the game is just rage inducing enough to cause you to rage quit, and then you have to start from 0. I get it's a game jam game, and probally not all that long. I was on the fence with this one but the $4 price point, with no save or rogue-like elements to keep it interesting keeps me from doing that.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a fun experience... and discovering the titular Troof is enough of a reason to play. However the game is short, so much that you can clear it well under an hour for both achievements if you're comfortable with some good platforming challenges. The full price of $3.99 doesn't really reflect the actual gameplay in my opinion, though on sales it's usually under $1 and that's about right for the experience. Other than that it's short and sweet adventure with graphics and music that remind me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →And thanks to a BIG donation from Ragey, he got to request a game change, choosing Potatoman Seeks the Troof, which was a funny, challenging, and weirdly emotional experience that I'm so glad I played. :')

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beat the game in 20 minutes and didn't enjoy any of it. Controls felt off, the game's "humour" weren't even close to good, like half of the "challenges" were from surprise kills that wouldn't get you more than once or twice once you know they're coming. I've played dozens of free flash games that were as good or better than this. I got this game as a gift but I get the feeling that it's the kind of game that becomes dirt cheap on sale, but it's not worth any amount of money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short but fun little platformer with silly dialogue and not too unfair prank deaths that usually only punish you for slowing down unlike some platformers that ruin the momentum and slow you down or you die.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend actually paying money for this game. If you happen to get it for free or as part of a bundle...

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very potato. Good story. Much troof. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fcking Masterpiece
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't know what this game was when I received a key. Move your character to the right, avoid objects, the world does funny stuff making it really hard to beat a level without being killed a few times. Too simple for me to stick with. Probably a great flash game or mobile game though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you hate yourself but wanna have fun in the process, play this game

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty sure this is what it feels like to be on LSD. Also, who and why did they make this game? 10/10 would seek the troof again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Troll platformer with an emphasis on humor and Atari 5200 style graphics. For under four dollars, it's actually a fun time waster. It's punishing but there's usually a method to the madness that's fun to figure out and there's a lot of forgiveness when it comes to trying again that it doesn't really feel punishing. HOWEVER there's no save option and a lot of RNG with the projectiles. So you can have a run that's just borked and all you can do is die and try again. So I can definitely see why…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Huh. I must have accidentally left this game running... Anyhow, the intriguing premise and retro visuals are let down by controls nowhere nearly as precise as they should have been. It looks and feels like it's from the early 80's, and I'd rather play Pitfall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played a straight hour I crashed two times I give up. Pretty sure it's my pc not the game. So this reminds me of Cat Mario now people say this was on those flash games and I'm surprised I never heard of this one! Hard platformer with cheap tricks but I love that makes remember when I run it back again and again!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this in Elementary school on Coolmath games and raging at the Birds. Good game 8/10 would recommend, true ending is cool.

unlabelledView post →Rating: 8.6/10 Potatoman Seeks the Troof is a charming and surprisingly challenging indie platformer that combines weird humor, retro visuals, and clever level design into a unique adventure. Following a potato on a journey to discover the ultimate "TROOF", the game constantly surprises with its creativity, strange world, and memorable moments. Despite its short length, it delivers a personality that many bigger games fail to achieve.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the troof was inside of us all along
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A silly bullet hell that constantly makes you wonder what and why are you playing, but you're probably still playing it a little bit more after. It's dumb fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another make the game hard for no other but mazochistic reasons
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely a fun, short little platformer. The RNG can get tedious at times, but at no point does the game get impossible nor impossibly hard. Unless you go for a no-death run. Then you have my condolences and my respects. Oh, right. Worth a buy especially at this price. If you like platformers, you won’t regret it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has opened my eyes and shown me the true meaning of life as a potato
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful, fantastic game about the act of soul searching... The real troof was within us all along, and we are who we are founded upon our origins. This is who we were always meant to be. A simple potato in a farm destined to sprout new potatoes in our stead... heh.. just a little glimpse into my introspective and abstract thinking mind.. you wouldn't last a day in the troofs i seek...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like the kind of game where I'm meant to learn patterns and stuff, and then get good at execution, and while that is there, there is also enough randomness, where it instead feels frustrating to play, rather than making me feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish it. Rating: 5/13
