The Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954) Landmark avant-garde masterpiece depicting a ritualistic costume party. Seldom has a film taken such delight in its own freakiness. Paved the way for John Waters and David Lynch. Starring Marjorie Cameron Directed by Kenneth Anger - BOTD in 1927

Still from Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome, a short film by Kenneth Anger from 1954. The film takes the name "Pleasure Dome" from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's atmospheric poem 'Kubla Khan'. It reflects Anger's deep interest in Thelema, the philosophy of Aleister Crowley. #KennethAnger #Thelema

Everyone has to start somewhere! Alfred Hitchcock's very first feature film, THE PLEASURE GARDEN, released OTD 4/12/1926. Is it any good? Well, it's no PSYCHO! But this silent film made in Germany was beginning of one of filmdom's most iconic resumes. #filmsky 📽

I’d like to see a film about the creation of INAUGURATION OF THE PLEASURE DOME. Act I is Renate Druks’ “Come as Your Madness" Ball, Act II is shooting the ritual, with Anaïs Nin, Majorie Cameron, etc. Final Act is a smash cut to the druggy 1978 premiere of the ELO soundtracked version in Boston.

The ambitious “Bella” (Sofia Kappel) arrives from Sweden in Los Angeles determined to make a successful career from the porn industry. She’s not an unattractive lass, nor is she entirely inexperienced, but here in the capital of global media sex, she struggles to make much of an impact. Not only are her looks nothing particularly special, but she also finds that despite some sagely advice from both “Mike” (Jason Toler) and from “Bear” (Chris Cock) she is soon facing hostility and competition…

Sofia Kappel, some performance! As for 'Pleasure' as a whole, quite striking! They did a fantastic job at making every scene, particularly the porn set scenes, feel incredibly real - it feels documentary-esque at a fair few points. It's an erotic drama and, well, a genre has seldom been so apt. It portrays the porn industry in an unfortunately believable and uncomfortable way. I felt uneasy for the majority, but that's very much the intention. No doubt these type of films aren't to a lot of…
