60 of 141 · most liked firstthe Bryan Cranston LBJ movie is vastly superior but also picks up right where the Harrelson movie ends. Might I suggest watching them in that order, then putting on Platoon, and then Born on the 4th of July (which I consider a stealth sequel to Platoon, as it features both Willem Dafoe and Dr. Cox)

Platoon is a 1986 war movie produced by Hemdale Film Corporation and distributed by Orion Pictures. The NES game was developed and published by Sunsoft in 1988.

unlabelledView post →The Rambo origin story is just a Vietnam war-is-hell movie. It's Boomer shit. There's a reason we don't keep remaking Platoon in 2025.
unlabelledView post →Something I hadn't noticed until now. In the movie #Mulan, every important scene is treated like a musical, THAT IS UNTIL MULAN'S PLATOON REACH THE DESTROYED VILLAGE. One second they're singing "A girl worth fighting for", the next they fall silent, and NEVER SING AGAIN for the rest of the film.

unlabelledView post →Picking a random film from my collection to show off for no real reason! Year 2, Day #112 "Platoon" (Oliver Stone/1986) One of my favorite Vietnam era war films. A Hell of a cast putting in great performances all around. You've probably already seen it but if not, you know what to do!

Jonathan Rosenbaum wrote about seeing PLATOON with a Vietnam vet, hoping to get some insight into how it depicted the horrors of the war, but his friend's only reaction was "Just another goddamn recruitment film."

unlabelledView post →Welcome to February ... 1988! 38 years ago this month, Ocean released Platoon. An excellent title, made up of mini-games based on scenes from the film, it was a critical & commercial hit for Ocean & signalled a major improvement in the quality of tie-in titles from the Manchester software house.
unlabelledView post →My Favourite #C64 Run & Gun Games No 5 Platoon Ocean had a history of awful movie tie-ins, but with Platoon they finally delivered the goods. With ace graphics & music, and absorbing mini-game gameplay based on scenes from the film (setting the template for future tie-ins) it's a cracking title.
unlabelledView post →Platoon, but it's the exact same movie except we digitally insert ninety bullets hitting Willam DaFoe at the end
unlabelledView post →I saw Platoon shortly before I joined the Army, and it was about the most realistic group dynamics of the Army movie I have seen. Probably helps that Oliver Stone was a Vietnam vet. His politics now are... problematic for me, but he captured the vibe really well there.
unlabelledView post →Sure – I love Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan - but I guess I’d have to say my favorite war movie is the last third of the novel Watership Down.
unlabelledView post →1986 was a great year for film btw. Sid & Nancy, Vagabond, Round Midnight, Mona Lisa, Blue Velvet, A Room With a View. Platoon is one I've never rewatched. Very well done, albeit a bit manipulative, as Stone always is. The Fly is iconic. I'm still partial to the original.

unlabelledView post →one time my mom and step-dad had the house to themselves for an evening and my mom told him to “go rent a good movie 😉” and he came back with a copy of Platoon
unlabelledView post →Guess that depends if you think an "anti-war" film must be the diametric opposite of a war film. Roger Ebert thought Oliver Stone's Platoon was an anti-war film that succeeded at not glorifying war.

unlabelledView post →Suddenly reminded of the montage scene in The Naked Gun where Neilsen and Presley come out of the movie theater laughing uproariously and then you see that the movie was Platoon
unlabelledView post →😞 The sobering soundtrack - used in the film Platoon - is fitting for the gravity of the harm they cause. That this deceit is sublimated & blindly endorsed by a PM & cabinet - terrible.
unlabelledView post →Challenge: Can I make a serious war drama in stop motion with wood toys and free sound effects, with no dialogue, no face acting, no pose-able characters? Like Platoon meets Cars meets a silent film?
unlabelledView post →In the book, Jarhead, the writer talks about how he and his fellow marines would watch ‘anti-war’ films like Platoon and Full Metal Jacket to get themselves psyched up for war. The book was made into an anti-war film.

unlabelledView post →My mom’s favorite movie is Platoon and she watched it All The Time and she’s still putting around 40 years later muttering “Barnes did Elias dirty” and she’s right! Also she’s righteous for teaching me about the world’s finest man at a tender age.
