Reports of the production budget of the film range from $88 million to $129 million, with Sony officially confirming the cost to be $110 million. The film received tax rebates of $19 million for filming in Canada. In the United States and Canada, Pixels opened alongside Paper Towns, Southpaw and The Vatican Tapes, and faced competition from holdovers Minions and Ant-Man, both of which were projected to earn around $20 million.
