Pickpocket
Michel takes up pickpocketing on a lark and is arrested soon after. His mother dies shortly after his release, and despite the objections of his only friend, Jacques, and his mother's neighbor Jeanne, Michel teams up with a couple of petty thieves in order to improve his craft. With a police inspector keeping an eye on him, Michel also tries to get a straight job, but the temptation to steal is hard to resist. From TMDB

The movie was excellent, sweet and sad at the same time, with an great ending. Then a nice dinner date at Moxies to complete a great evening.

unlabelledView post →This was the only ad I needed for "The Only Living Pickpocket In New York". Turturro doesn't usually get leading roles unless he's directing, so this movie is already a rarity. Add Giancarlo Esposito and Tatiana Maslany to the supporting cast and it's something really special. #FilmSky #Movies

No lyrical dialogue, no emotional flourishes, no musical release, only restraint, repetition, and silence. Meaning emerges through absence, making it a perfect embodiment of #antonymasongorpoem. #antonymasongorpoem #Pickpocket #RobertBresson #FrenchCinema #MinimalistCinema

What a highly scripted peak shit this is. Also side note, this Bresson movie influenced Paul Schrader to write Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976)
unlabelledView post →THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK is a throwback film in nearly every sense. With a simple, tight crime drama storyline, old school measured character work with layers of emotion, and the pacing and tone of a 70s film, this is a somber yet satisfying movie about the march of time. #Sundance2026
unlabelledView post →Pickpocket I'm much more willing to enjoy an arty low-plot movie when it's only 75 minutes long. The foley work emphasizes the footsteps clip clopping to a degree that's pretty funny. It's a crowded street with cars and talking and the only thing you hear is clip clop clip clop slide to a stop.

Which is good, because there’s no lock on Michel’s door. There’s a partial mechanism on the door itself, but nothing for it to affix to the frame."
