Peeping Tom
Loner Mark Lewis works at a film studio during the day and, at night, takes racy photographs of women. Also he's making a documentary on fear, which involves recording the reactions of victims as he murders them. He befriends Helen, the daughter of the family living in the apartment below his, and he tells her vaguely about the movie he is making. From TMDB

Written by Leo Marks and directed by Michael Powell, this profoundly influential film stars Karlheinz Böhm, Moira Shearer, Anna Massey, Maxine Audley, and Brenda Bruce, to name a few. #Horror

I'll be lucky to do a double bill of that quality again... Personally thought Peeping Tom was objectively good but the body of the film didn't quite match the very strong opening
neutral · AI labelView post →One of the most influential films to the slasher subgenre arrived 65 years ago in Michael Powell's Peeping Tom! The controversy surrounding its content destroyed Powell's career, but it has since been labeled a classic and essential film in the history of horror. #Horrorsky #PeepingTom #Filmsky

neutral · AI labelView post →Most horror movies could be solved by fucking the killer. I could stop Jason with a blowie. Ghostface cumface when I'm done with him. Peeping Tom gonna make a snuff movie with me? Joke's on you bro, I'm into it.
neutral · AI labelView post →#LetterboxdFriday #lastfourwatched #FilmSky The ratings might not show it but except for when a stranger calls I was pretty entertained by these last four movies. I'd recommend Peeping Tom, that was an unexpectedly good performance of a creepy guy.

neutral · AI labelView post →#filmsky It’s comical to go back and read early reviews of Michael Powell’s superb snuff movie horror film Peeping Tom (out in the U.S. today, 1962); such sensitive souls back then. Powell brilliantly indicted audiences in crude video voyeurism; the tortured killer rivals Norman Bates for sad angst.
positive · AI labelView post →Without PEEPING TOM this movie either does not exist *at all* or it is a very different thing altogether, such is it in its debt. I still do find it pretty goddamn brilliant and far better than it should be; Harron, Turner, and the cast make all the difference in turning this into Something Special.
neutral · AI labelView post →VICTIM OF BEAUTY (1991) is a whodunnit FROM HELL TV movie directed by PROM NIGHT's Paul Lynch. Models and murder. Peeping Tom photographer. Alibi by pizza. Hoary old clichés such as a cat thrown into frame and a predatory lesbian head of a modelling agency. Plus, a completely ludicrous conclusion!

neutral · AI labelView post →Michael Powell’s Peeping Tom is often classified as a horror film and although dark and disturbing, it is more a psychological study and reflection of the age of visual media than a vehicle for shock. It fully deserves its hard-fought place in the annals of classic cinema.

Karter (Venkat Sai Gunda) is an artistic sort – specifically, a photographer, apparently of some renown. He’s also mute. And a serial killer. He’s depressed; he feels trapped by his crimes, but he can’t stop killing, he doesn’t want to go to prison and he can’t quite face suicide. One day, he begins to feel he isn’t alone in his house. It seems the vengeful…

positive · AI labelView post →Just finished The Lonely Sex (1959) which poster is far more salacious than the film’s context. This film has a lot of parallels with Psycho and Peeping Tom (predates them by a year) and a real creep for the lead. There’s definitely something here, but it’s ruined by incompetent filmmaking. 2.5/5

Of course the same thread had weaved through Peeping Tom and Rear Window, but Blow Up felt like a true paradigm shift.
