Nobody's Fool
After serving five years in prison, wild child Tanya looks to her buttoned-up, by-the-book sister Danica to help her get back on her feet. The feisty ex-con becomes suspicious and concerned when Danica tells her that she's in a long-distance, online relationship with a mysterious man she's never seen. As the polar opposites start to collide, Tanya soon discovers that her sibling's picture-perfect life may not be… From TMDB

60 of 71 · most liked firstWatched the 1994 film Nobody's Fool last night. It's got Paul Newman, Bruce Willis, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Margot Martindale... I'd never heard of it before but it's EXCELLENT. an almost painfully accurate depiction of my grandparent's generation and small town America just before oxy.

I was that weird kid who made her friends go see NOBODY'S FOOL in middle school because I loved Paul Newman, but as an adult, my favorite Benton film is THE LATE SHOW. If you're a '70s SoCal noir or mystery fan, this is your movie.

Two of my favorite films of his were the Paul Newman films Nobody's Fool and Twilight, but he was best known for films like the 1979 Best Director Oscar-winner Kramer vs. Kramer (1974) and Places in the Heart (1984)

unlabelledView post →Nobody's Fool is such a miracle of a movie. I've never lived in a wintry town in upstate New York, but every beat in it, every character, has the kind of authenticity that makes me think: Yes, it must be just like that. It isn't pretty, but it's beautiful.
unlabelledView post →And The Verdict, Nobody's Fool, and Color of Money are great movies. But Slap Shot may be the greatest movie ever made.

"Nobody's Fool" feels more like upstate NY than any movie I've seen. * Having NYC in your selection pool is like having 1/4 of all movies available, so we chose creative constraints.

unlabelledView post →But the movie that to me really captures the feel of small-town Upstate and Western NY is Nobody's Fool. Not filmed in my hometown, but filmed in a town that kinda looks like my hometown.
unlabelledView post →The great Robert Benton has left us. Directed one of my favourite westerns, BAD COMPANY ('72) & one of my fave noirs, TWILIGHT ('98). Also love NOBODY'S FOOL, NADINE and THE ICE HARVEST (the latter's co-writer). His film of THE HUMAN STAIN is unjustly maligned. Be he thanked for all he gave us.
unlabelledView post →TCM's 100th birthday Paul Newman salute includes a personal favorite 9:15pm CDT 1/26: Nobody's Fool with Newman and Jessica Tandy, is a rare film... about failure. Not falling from heights tragedy, but people just trying to keep ahead, done with wit and an exceptional grace. A quiet masterpiece.

unlabelledView post →All good one. As for Footloose and Top Gun, Kenny Loggins can write a banger, and strangely, he wrote one for "Caddyshack II", which is such a god-awful film, but his title track of "Nobody's Fool" is a great tune.

(but i really liked the book a lot)
unlabelledView post →It's not mentioned here, but a young Robert Benton flunked his creative writing class. Perhaps his teacher is the one who should've been given a failing grade – for failing to recognize such an enormous talent. "Nobody's Fool" is the kind of movie that H'wood rarely makes anymore – so, so good...
unlabelledView post →Ah, Robert Benton died. A great screenwriter, who wrote & directed a gem of a movie called "Nobody's Fool" with the late, great Paul Newman.
