“You didn't "expose" it in 2007 and according to other CIA agents there is no internal records of you even questioning it while you were in the CIA participating in it. The actual timeline of "exposure": 1. The Department of Defense and NCIS (2002–2003): In 2002, agents from the Criminal Investigation Task Force at Guantanamo Bay began reporting that the interrogation techniques used by military intelligence, which were coordinated with and influenced by CIA protocols, were unproductive and likely illegal. These concerns reached David Brant, the director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and eventually Navy General Counsel Alberto J. Mora. Mora became a vocal internal opponent of these methods, documenting his formal objections throughout 2003. 2. Investigative Journalism (2004–2005): The existence of “black sites” and abusive interrogation tactics was being reported by the press well before 2007. Dana Priest of The Washington Post won a Pulitzer Prize for her 2005 reporting, which exposed the existence of the CIA’s secret prison network (“black sites”) across the globe and the use of “extraordinary rendition.” Her work provided the foundational evidence that such a system existed, even if specific interrogation details were initially obscured. Seymour Hersh, writing for The New Yorker, was instrumental in documenting the systemic nature of abuse. His reporting on the Abu Ghraib prison scandal in 2004 began pulling back the curtain on the environment that fostered these techniques, and he continued to follow the trail of how those methods were exported from Afghanistan and Iraq to other CIA-managed facilities. 3. Human Rights Organizations: Groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and Amnesty International were filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and publishing reports on torture and secret detentions as early as 2003 and 2004. These organizations were uncovering the “torture memos” and internal legal justifications—specifically those authored by John Yoo and Jay Bybee at the Office of Legal Counsel—which provided the legal framework for the practices. So, no you didn't expose it. You were the first CIA agent to openly discuss it. What's interesting is that you limited your 'exposure' to only that which has been publicly exposed years before relating to 'waterboarding' and not all the other methods used that are much worse than waterboarding. In addition, you didn't go to prison for "exposing" this program since it had already been exposed. Specifically, you were charged with identifying your fellow CIA officers involved in the torture program and ultimately plead guilty for one such instance, not for exposing the program but at least one officer involved. It's also interesting to note you didn't actually even reveal the agents real name, just his pseudonym, Deuce Martinez.”
