I love Cthulhu mythos and Lovecraftian horror games. But this does nothing for me. I did walk in knowing it was more of a walking sim puzzle than a horror game. But the narrative isn't compelling, I expected something, anything to keep me hooked. There's also no lore to be hooked on, most of the expanded story being in text windows that you have to read yourself. It's the worst of "tell don't show". Not even the map or UI is anything of note. The characters have little to no…

I went into this expecting nothing and I was still disappointed. tl;dr - Boring, tedious, hand hold-y experience that was predictable from start to finish. The graphics are nice. Everything was nice to look at. Looks like a place people had lived and worked in. It was bug free, from my playthrough anyway. That's the only praise it gets. Story is painfully predictable. There was no subversion. Just the same old tired tropes whenever it involves anything eldritch. If you've played one…

Finished a cosmic horror game called Moons of Madness...and it was just ok. It clearly had a lot of love poured into its art and environments, even the voice acting was pretty good...but the writing lets it down. The story just isn't good enough or intriguing enough. And it also isn't scary.

A decent but short Lovecraftian-inspired cosmic horror story with solid voice acting and a pretty intriguing premise. Definitely not a scary game at all, as they seem to focus more on creating a tense atmosphere rather than jump-scares or monster chases, which actually fit the narrative alot better imo. Would recommend if you're into Sci-fi mixed with Lovecraft, though definitely only a one-time-playthrough kinda game.

It's fine, but bear in mind what you are getting when you purchase this game: -approx 5 hours of gameplay. -mostly walking sim with some light puzzle elements -horror aspects consist of jumpscares, eldritch symbolism, and like 2 actually tense sequences of running/hiding from monsters/robots. -some of the dialogue/notes are written in a really stilted way which isn't how people actually talk.

Overall, just slightly falls on the meh side of things. The lore is not bad. Voice acting is pretty good. Writing is a bit of a hit and miss. Visuals are alright. But gameplay is just not very fun. I think the story has potential and could be developed further, but there's also a lot of weak points and overall, nothing stands out enough to really recommend.

Sorry, I can't make myself sick trying to play a video game. You gotta put an FOV slider in. And no, I'm not downloading some hack and opening a console to fiddle with it. Put it in the game. In the settings. Under graphics. This isn't a new idea.

Disclaimer: If you are under the age of 30, then this game probably isn't for you. If you have never heard of H.P. Lovecraft or have never read his work, then this game isn't for you. If you are incapable of reading and analyzing story on your own and need someone to explain everything to you in great detail, then this game isn't for you. If you don't meet any of these criteria, then this game IS for you, and I recommend it. Pros: *Decent graphics, even with it being an older game. (The…

Moons of Madness is a worthy little "The Secret World" experience that can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. Made by experienced Norwegian Indie developers who have been entrusted the TSW IP to produce a spin-off. Yet unlike "The Park (2015)" spin-off which was lacking, this game excels and proves that in the right hands the IP can flourish. (ngl, Funcom truly are incompetent fools..) First of all, I am glad we moved from The Park's psychological horror back to simple Lovecraftian horror for…

I didn't hate this game, but the story lacks any kind of cohesion. It's all over the place - they throw every sci-fi and cosmic horror trope at the wall and hope something sticks. If they paired down the different narrative themes, this game could have been great. The NASApunk visuals and audio design are good, as are the tactile buttons and interactions. But man, the story just goes all over the place and 90% of the threads are just dropped before being explained. For a narrative walking…

This is one of these games where a -neutral- review would be appropriate. Its not bad enough to justify a negative rating, but also not enough good ideas or gameplay for me to blindly recommend it to others. Pretty forgettable in summary. Its a walking sim with a okayish story, but it is missing a lot of tension and suspension despitebeing a horror game and puzzles are pretty unintuitive or just very uninteresting. Most mechanics also come up once or twice then never get used again, also…

I was hoping for lovecraftian horror. This disappointed pretty quickly. I played through the first two chapters but am dropping it. Every part of the design felt very 'game-y.' Your character self-narrates obvious concepts to hold your hand. The environmental design is deliberately obtuse, reminding you it's a game instead of immersing you in a fictional space. Accessing computers is brutally absurd, barely even pretending to be anything more than a list of three documents and a button…

This was better than I expected. I picked this one up on sale, and at around 6 hours, it's short enough to keep you interested but long enough that I wasn't disappointed. I'm a big fan of Lovecraft and space-horror, so this was the best of both worlds. You may end up confused if you don't read the various terminal entries, but otherwise the story is a nice mix of space horror and cosmic horror. Well done!

Except for pretty ok voice acting and aesthetically decent locations, this game has nothing to offer and I cannot recommend it, as there's too many better games (indie games, games at the given price point, you name it). -plot makes no sense, -one of the most unintuitive games I've ever played (I had to watch walkthrough videos on YouTube few times in order to know what I had to do next), -repetitive (take a ride to location a and b, take power supply, do the puzzle part, repeat), -heavy…

Solid entry in the Cosmic Horror genre. Your character is voiced, and talks to a couple other people through out the game, as well as talking to himself to kind of guide you along. There are some good scares and tense moments. There are 2 endings, and i liked both of them. If you are into cosmic horror or Lovecraft, give this game a shot. It isn't a long game, so i would recomend getting it on sale.

Whoever did the vocal direction on this should be ashamed of themselves. While the low budget definitely shows its face at times, no problem is more viscerally noticable than the voiceactors failing to adequately immerse the player in whatever is happening, and it COMPLETELY undercuts the horror. Cheap jumpscares and some very stilted dialogue during tense moments wreck what could have easily been something more interesting. A tragedy. Cosmic horror rides or dies on its moody atmosphere,…

Quite a good start, the story gradually builds up, but later to the point where you easily get lost, unless you read all the notes in detail, it won't make sense to you later. Puzzles, some good, but most poorly designed. Overall terrible level design, which almost made me quit the game a few times. Performance drop in certain parts, from 144 fps to 80, while the hardware was far from 100%. 6/10, buy it on sale.

When it comes to walking horror simulators Moons of Madness lands right smack dead center in cosmic horror next to the likes of Conarium, only in difference being an outer space stealth, puzzler, interactive horror flick. It's not an easy game, it's not outrageously difficult either. You'll come across a few centrifuge puzzles the second of which you may bash your brains out trying to figure out. I didn't look up any guides, I just bore with it, sat there and figured it all out. All in all it…

While the gameplay is brief, it delivers a solid experience, making it best to pick up on a discount. Moons of Madness is what it says on the cover: an eldritch scifi horror adventure. The player is Shane, a scientist at a secret research installation on Mars, funded by a shadowy company called Orochi. It follows the typical horror game trajectory: everything is fine in the beginning, then something goes a little wrong, then everything quickly goes a lot wrong and you're frantically trying to survive long enough to resolve the main plot conflict. The environment is nicely done: you're in a…

Moons of Madness is a first-person Lovecraftian horror game set on a remote research base on Mars, blending science fiction with cosmic horror. You explore the station as reality slowly breaks down, uncovering a story tied to isolation, obsession, and forces far beyond human understanding. Although the story can be mildly confusing at times, I think it's only because I didn't do enough exploring, and should've spent just a bit more time reading -- there is a LOT of lore in this game, which again, I absolutely love. If your game has any jumpscares, you don't get to call it Lovecraftian. No quantity of tentacle monsters will change the fact that this game is another piece of media that perverts Lovecraftian mythology for cheap scares and misses the point, in my opinion. A Lovecraftian work makes you dread existence and knowledge; this game makes you dread whatever jumpscare is behind the stilted door-opening animation. That is what some people may want of a horror game, but I was quite disappointed. The…
