Mississippi Burning
Two FBI agents investigating the murder of civil rights workers during the 60s seek to breach the conspiracy of silence in a small Southern town where segregation divides black and white. This quote by Maya Angelou comes to mind: "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better". Oh, if only that were the way of things.
positive · AI labelView post →Watched “Mississippi Burning” tonight in honor of Gene Hackman. Holy crap that movie is truth and has incredible relevance right now. If you’re looking for a way to understand why so many people are acting so afraid right now, watch this movie about 1960s Jim Crow.
positive · AI labelView post →My favorite Gene Hackman movie is Hoosiers but my favorite Gene Hackman scene is in Mississippi Burning when he literally grabs a racist good ol boy by the … well … sensitive parts. RIP to one of the best ever.
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm writing about the "Mississippi Burning" murders today and every time I write the word "Deputy" I hear it pronounced sneeringly by Gene Hackman in the film: "Deppity"
neutral · AI labelView post →RIP Gene Hackman - one of the greats. Mississippi Burning, Bonnie & Clyde, Hoosiers, and of course Superman: The Movie... among many, many other roles. An American treasure.

neutral · AI labelView post →this is a speech given by a white nationalist and clan member in the film Mississippi Burning. it's from 1988 and if you ask yourself...honestly...could this be a speech given anyone else in 2025?
neutral · AI labelView post →Old narrator here who grew up in the 60's during civil rights protests, every Southern politician said the protesters were paid agitators from the north (watch the movie Mississippi Burning for more info)
neutral · AI labelView post →The movie "Mississippi Burning" is based on their murders. "I am sick and tired of the people in this country who continue to allow these things to happen."
neutral · AI labelView post →Makes you wonder how often stuff like this happens … it seems that they were only caught because they accidentally shot one of the victims. I remember seeing a film years ago called Mississippi Burning (set in the 1960s) about how entire communities and institutions condone behaviour just like this - and thinking “thank god such stuff doesn’t happen any more”. That now feels like a remarkably naive attitude. Pretty grim reading.
neutral · AI labelView post →"My parents told me that the first movie they took me along to as an infant was Mississippi Burning, the 1988 film about the 1964 Neshoba County murders of Civil Rights Era activists James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner. In 1964, my dad was in elementary school."
neutral · AI labelView post →Feelings on the movie aside, Gene Hackman's story about his daddy in "Mississippi Burning", culminating in his daddy's point: "If you ain't better than a n*****, son, who are you better than?" is all that many white (and adjacency seeking) people ever need.
neutral · AI labelView post →Happy 71st Birthday to the criminally underrated Michael Rooker, versatile film & TV actor, acclaimed for roles in HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, EIGHT MEN OUT, MISSISSIPPI BURNING, DAYS OF THUNDER, JFK, THE DARK HALF, CLIFFHANGER, TOMBSTONE, MALLRATS, SLITHER, and THE WALKING DEAD, and more.
neutral · AI labelView post →No, Adam, Reagan launched his bid for POTUS in Philadelphia Mississippi, true-life setting for the movie Mississippi Burning birthplace of Nixon's racist "Southern Strategy." Reagan was instrumental in creating the mess we're in now as anyone in the GOP. Trump is Reagan, absent the charm.

neutral · AI labelView post →'Now get this straight, Shit-kicker!' #Film Mississippi Burning (1988), directed by Alan Parker, written by Chris Gerolmo, with actors Gene Hackman, Willem Dafoe, Frances McDormand et al. (I'm not a fan of violence, but sometimes it feels right.) RIP, Gene Hackman.
positive · AI labelView post →I recently watched the 1988 movie, Mississippi Burning, dealing with the murders of civil rights workers in 1964. I really wish things have improved since then and hope we don’t see a rise in those kinds of crimes.

neutral · AI labelView post →Absolutely! I watched “Mississippi Burning” after Gene Hackman’s passing, excellent film. Sadly it was loosely based on the shameful murder of three civil rights activists by local KKK racists.
positive · AI labelView post →I mean you see this pretty clearly in media representations like Mississippi Burning too. Yeah, it’s a film, but segregationists were violent, abusive dregs of society and to accurately name them as such would be to set off a cacophony of violence and threats.

neutral · AI labelView post →52. Angel Heart (dir. Alan Parker, 1987). Alan Parker has a wild resumé as a filmmaker. Oscar contenders like Mississippi Burning on one hand, arthouse rock operas like The Wall on the other, and in-between a religious horror/film noir hybrid. Mad respect for that versatility.

positive · AI labelView post →Woke up at stupid o’clock and watched a Gene Hackman film I’d never seen before. Mississippi Burning (1988) What a brilliant movie. A reminder of how good a director Alan Parker was and how easy Gene Hackman made acting look On Prime video at the moment

neutral · AI labelView post →Something is missing in this review of Gene Hackman’s filmography. Q: Do white people just kinda blank out over Mississippi Burning? It’s a fantastic thriller with an old/young buddy cop dynamic inhabited by superlative actors (Willem Dafoe is the lead). decider.com/2025/02/27/g...

unlabelledView post →This movie is so sensational. Also true of Hoosiers. Royal Tenenbaums. Heist. Get Shorty. The Firm. Mississippi Burning. Unforgiven. The list is insane.
unlabelledView post →It's a great movie. Also maybe time to break out Mississippi Burning again. Hackman was one of the greats.

unlabelledView post →Though I most recently became somewhat obsessed with his 1974 film The Conversation—and I will forever love him in Runaway Jury (2003), Mississippi Burning (1988), Night Moves (1975), and Bonnie and Clyde (1967)—my favorite movie of Gene Hackman’s continues to be The French Connection (1971).
unlabelledView post →Tonight's watching will either be The Conversation, Unforgiven or Mississippi Burning (watched French Connection last week). I'm leaning towards Unforgiven.

unlabelledView post →I’ve probably watched Mississippi Burning more than most. Just such a highly rewatchable film. A large reason for that is Hackman’s performance. #filmsky youtu.be/m03bFB0vmFA?...
unlabelledView post →I've always been conflicted about 'Mississippi Burning'. On one hand it's clearly a white savior story, but it also has a great cast with really good performances. Just one small teensy example the smug glee that lights up the eyes of 'Deppity' Brad Dourif until Hackman asserts some dominance.
