unlabelledView post →Today's the 35th anniversary of MILLER'S CROSSING, the movie that meant the most to me for many years and that I've seen more times than any other. The video store gave it to me when I rented it too much.
unlabelledView post →Recently rewatched Miller's Crossing on the Criterion Channel and it confirmed for me what I've long known: it's my favorite Coen Bros movie.
unlabelledView post →imho Miller's Crossing is a real contender for best Coen bros movie
unlabelledView post →You've inherited a movie theater, what's your first double feature? The Third Man (1949) and Miller's Crossing (1990)
unlabelledView post →The Coen brothers, stuck while writing Miller's Crossing, attended a screening of Baby Boom. When they emerged from the movie theater, they had the inspiration for Barton Fink. Yes, the enigma of Joel and Ethan's creative minds, but also another cinematic treat we can add to Diane Keaton's legacy.
unlabelledView post →Whenever I watch MILLER'S CROSSING, a virtually perfect movie, I holler "WHAT'S THE RUMPUS COUNT AT (number)" in a radio shock jock voice every time a character says "what's the rumpus?"
unlabelledView post →quite possibly my favorite Coen Bros film, maybe tied with Raising Arizona (for the uninitiated, this is from Miller's Crossing)
unlabelledView post →The Coens had writer's block while writing Miller's Crossing. Their solution? To take a 3 week break and write Barton Fink, a film about a writer with writer's block. They then put in two references to it: the name of Tom's residence & the newspaper article about a hotel fire.
unlabelledView post →Gabriel Byrne in MILLER'S CROSSING (1990), a masterclass in the art of sitting in a movie Byrne was BOTD in 1950
unlabelledView post →For all my sentimental allegiance to MILLER'S CROSSING, this is probably my favourite Coen movie.
unlabelledView post →Albert Finney in MILLER'S CROSSING (1990), one of the all-time great gangster movie performances Finney was BOTD in 1936
unlabelledView post →During the hotly-anticipated Season Two premiere of Twin Peaks (a 2-hour episode directed by David Lynch), one of the commercial breaks was taken up by this trailer for the Coen Brothers' 3rd feature film, Miller's Crossing. This trailer is so good. I used to watch it over and over.
unlabelledView post →A great movie that would fit beautifully on a double bill with Yojimbo, A Fistful of Dollars, or Miller's Crossing.
unlabelledView post →I watched Miller's Crossing last night after, gosh, a few decades. Back then it left me cold, in part bc I had the context wrong—I was expecting mob movie and got a gangster picture, so to speak. To be honest I still find it strangely inert. Byrne's unchanging affect doesn't give me an "in" for him.
unlabelledView post →I think the weirdest part of spending so much time with the Coens this year was learning how many of our listeners think Miller's Crossing—the Coens' greatest film, and probably the best screenplay of the 1990s—is one of their worst movies lol.
unlabelledView post →Got to see one of my top 4 movies of all time on the big screen again tonight, thanks to @amcinematheque.bsky.social at the Egyptian. No matter how many times I see it, Miller's Crossing is an absolutely perfect film, not an ounce of fat on it. Great to hear Gabriel Byrne talk about his experiences.
unlabelledView post →If ‘Fargo’ is the Coen Brothers movie which best exemplifies the comical folly of human greed and ‘Miller's Crossing’ is their great ode to having a code, ‘A Serious Man’ splits the difference between modern illusions of agency and the non-negotiable edicts of the Old Testament. Their scariest film.
unlabelledView post →Picking a random film from my collection to show off for no real reason! Day #169 "Miller's Crossing" (Ethan Coen and Joel Coen/1990) Excellent gangster film about the Italians clashing with the Irish mob over a crooked bookie. Great cast, great story, great direction. Check this one out!
unlabelledView post →After rewatching Miller's Crossing for the umpteenth time last night, I am no longer certain it's my favorite Coens film. Instead, I am now considering whether it's just my favorite film period.
unlabelledView post →#MovieMadness Day 4- movie with a favorite character Miller's Crossing (Coen Brothers) Tom Reagan played by Gabriel Byrne. If I could be only 1/10th as cool as Tom.
unlabelledView post →The pre-credits opening of the Coens' MILLER'S CROSSING, adapted from a scene in the 1942 film THE GLASS KEY, might be my all-time favorite movie scene, period. Dazzlingly witty, with so much information communicated per second that it practically demands rewinding & rewatching.
unlabelledView post →I want to see the movie called, "Miller's Crossing." The one where Stephen Miller is dropped in the bright center of Greenland, with very basic arctic supplies. He's told to march to the coast. "March! March Nazi! March!" Best line in the film.
unlabelledView post →I was once at a screening of Miller's Crossing with Gabriel Byrne and he said I am in almost every scene in this movie except the best one. He is right, it is one of the best action sequences, silent, and clear progression. youtu.be/gOBX9STqprA?...
unlabelledView post →Miller's Crossing is my favorite movie, and I've always hated that the leaves didn't move in this scene and I assumed it was an amateurish oversight or a result of low budget -- I guess, because the Coens are famously bad at making movies? 🤷♂️
unlabelledView post →Carter Burwell (with scenes from "Miller's Crossing", "Gods and Monsters", "Velvet Goldmine" and "The Banshees of Inisherin" for which he composed the film scores) - BOTD
unlabelledView post →So I watched Miller's Crossing the other night and was so confused bc the story did not give me a Southern vibe, yet the locations looked like nowhere in the North. Turns out they filmed it in NOLA. Certainly a $$ choice but it explains so much re the fairy tale/out of time/place vibe of the film
unlabelledView post →It stands out in the context of that opening conversation because "Miller's Crossing" is about navigating these sorts of boundaries, allegiances and identities. The film has a preoccupation with hats - suggesting halos, civility, but also a sort of masking and disguise.
unlabelledView post →Keeping with the motif of characters navigating worlds, slipping between established boundaries and identities, Bernie is having an affair with Mink, who is sleeping with the Dane. (I'm always struck by the casual queerness of "Miller's Crossing" as a 1990 period gangster film.)
unlabelledView post →The Big Lebowski is my favorite movie but I think Miller's Crossing is the Coen brothers' best movie. How do I reconcile these facts.
unlabelledView post →Since MILLER'S CROSSING in 1990, pretty much every film the Coen Bros. have made has confirmed that there are at least two filmmakers out there who get me. Happy birthday, Joel Coen.
unlabelledView post →A woman I went out with once in college called Miller's Crossing a "perfect" film, and I think that's accurate. Over the last few years, I've gradually come to realize that it's near the top of my personal list of Greatest Films Ever Made in the History of Cinema. Also, trans rights, obviously.
unlabelledView post →"That's a penny you owe him." Long overdue rewatch. But does it hold up? Of course it fucking holds up. Miller's Crossing 1990 #filmsky

unlabelledView post →I just watched Miller's Crossing, and I've never watched a film where the final scene so thoroughly recontextualized the everything before for me. I was like "Oh, these dudes are in love with each other. This was a gay movie the entire time." And I mean that it was 100% intentional.
unlabelledView post →the movie is really great, and a big influence/source for MILLER'S CROSSING
unlabelledView post →Name a movie that you rate 10/10. Miller's Crossing
unlabelledView post →No idea, but I'm reminded of that great repeated line in the Coen Brothers' film "Miller's Crossing" . . . "What's the rumpus?"
unlabelledView post →Remembering Albert Finney, who died on today's date in 2019 at age 82. I knew him best from movies like Big Fish, Miller's Crossing, and Erin Brokovich -- but when I recently embarked on a Kitchen Sink film journey, I was delighted to discover him in Saturday Night and Sunday Morning. Great stuff.

unlabelledView post →Hudsucker, like Miller's Crossing, is an overlooked film. Whatever it does, it commits to, and regardless of your appetite for it. Their early stuff is a delight.
unlabelledView post →Miller's Crossing was the first Coen Brothers film I saw and this scene, amongst others, completely blew my mind.
