Marnie
Marnie is a beautiful but emotionally withdrawn thief, stealing from employers before disappearing under new identities. When her new boss, Mark Rutland, discovers her secret, his fascination turns to obsession, and he blackmails her into marriage, convinced he can cure her. But as he probes deeper into Marnie’s fractured mind, long-buried fears and compulsions begin to surface. From TMDB

neutral · AI labelView post →#Edwards1000SixtiesMovies 407/1000: MARNIE This mystery-thriller movie is somewhat different from Hitchcock's other films, because it presents a psychological analysis of the title character, Marnie, and how she came to be an impulsive, distressed thief and liar, instead of the usual suspense.

positive · AI labelView post →What a bunch of hooey. My least favorite Hitchcock movie by far. I'd rather watch Marnie, as ridiculous as it is. (Yes, I'm feeling slightly dyspeptic tonight.) #Spellbound #TCMParty

positive · AI labelView post →Marnie, at 14, pulled her first ever all-nighter, stayed up, sorted out her Pokemon cards, watched a film or two - went to bed at 7am. I can wake her up now, right? Prod the bear a bit? 😂

Essential viewing if you’re adopted or a few yourself are a parent of any kind. True art not seen with the eyes or heard with the ears, but an experience felt with the heart.

positive · AI labelView post →[spoilers] "When Marnie Was There" is genuinely one of the most perplexing movies I've seen in recent memory. What do you mean a near lesbian coded relationship with a ghost (living memory?) turns out to be a blood relative?????? This movie had so many different vibes to go this direction
neutral · AI labelView post →Might I also point out that this ALFRED appeared in the Hitchcock film Marnie alongside Tippi Hedren and Sean Connery. I’m the tall, good looking one.

positive · AI labelView post →Cinematographer Robert Burks would work with Hitchcock many times, starting with this film. They would continue through "Marnie." Burks was nominated for an Oscar for this film and would win an Oscar for "To Catch a Thief." #StrangersOnATrain #TCMParty #NoirAlley #cinematography

neutral · AI labelView post →Saw Marnie (1964) in a theater last night, and after sleeping on it, I've added a half star, bringing it to 4.5. I still can't get past it's small flaws, but still, a great film.
positive · AI labelView post →Hot take: Return To Halloweentown is my favourite Halloweentown movie. It was better than 2 and 3. Sara Paxton was magical as Marnie, Witch University was such a great setting, and it had a Jesse McCartney song on the soundtrack. I never understood why it got so much hate. ITS AMAZING 🙌💯
neutral · AI labelView post →At some point, Hitchcock swallowed a book on Freud, hence this film, Marnie and Spelbound.
neutral · AI labelView post →That one will be a first but MARNIE we've seen a few times. NOTORIOUS is usually my answer for favorite Hitchcock movie but I think it might be this, a character study that uses the thriller technique and Bernard Herrmann music for suspense about whether someone will have a personal breakthrough
positive · AI labelView post →THE EARTH DIES SCREAMING of course could not possibly live up to a title that good, and seems like it doesn't. It's a Terence Fisher movie whose reviews were not glowing, but at 62 minutes (!) the perfect thing to put after a lengthy movie like MARNIE without making the overall program much longer

neutral · AI labelView post →Someone I follow talking about Hitchcock’s Marnie on Letterboxd just reminded me on how with a fairly recent rewatch just how immensely cute Diane Baker is in that film. I did gasp a bit upon realising she’s also that one senator in Silence Of The Lambs.
neutral · AI labelView post →Rear Window, partly because he takes the 'shot in the same location' idea and makes the best possible movie out of it. Partly because he shines a fascinating camera on the phenomenon of people-watching. But also because the specially-built set (inside a warehouse stage IIRC) is incredibly intricate and becomes the 3rd star of the movie, effectively. All that said, viscerally I just loved it, as well. Meanwhile, I caught a couple of Hitch's movies later in his life and they didn't do…
neutral · AI labelView post →This is like asking what is the best or favourite South Park episode. I can't think of a favourite studio Ghibli movie. But for me, probably the closest to my number 1 spot is "When Marnie was there." I am not sure why, but the movie pulls a heart string for me and it feels more personal. Speaking of the movie, I can't believe that the movie is 10 years old this year! I remember watching it for the first time in my local independent theatre!

positive · AI labelView post →gazing across at the ferry in the harbour & thinking of this memorably strange image in the quite odd hitchcock film MARNIE (1964)
neutral · AI labelView post →I’ve seen Marnie several times, so the film obviously fascinates me. As so often happens, the ending in the book is totally different to the film.
neutral · AI labelView post →Too many to name but My Fair Lady still one of my faves but As long as he needs me from Oliver is epic, not really a fan of Les Mis or ALW . I spent a lot of my childhood watching Hollywood movies and I'm a huge Marnie Nixon fan, still prefer film to theatre. Well you did ask!
neutral · AI labelView post →"If there is one big influence, it’s Marnie, the Hitchcock movie... it's psychologically terrifying, and it’s full of physical and emotional and sexual violence, but on its surface, it’s these glowy feminine pastel colors." neutral · AI labelView post →This feels distinctively like a Studio Ghibli movie. When Marnie Was There, right?
neutral · AI labelView post →See, this is exactly why 'when Marnie was there" is a terrible movie. Ghibli is bitter old clown ass bitch for that one. I don't think I watched a single Ghibli film after that one either, and I thought I was going to see them all.

neutral · AI labelView post →Marnie (1964) A big swing by Hitchcock late in his career that feels remarkably modern for an old-school Hollywood movie, about a troubled thief (Tippi Hedren) who a Bond-era Sean Connery falls for, leading him down the rabbit hole of what is actually "wrong" with her. #Filmsky 📽️
positive · AI labelView post →#movies #anime When Marnie Was There (2014) • rewatch — A curious oddity in the Ghibli library. A coming-of-age summer romance... Or not? Either way, this is a quiet, somber, and bittersweet film, unusually introspective for animation, something soft and tender.
neutral · AI labelView post →this week's Hallmark movie was a Halloween spin-off of a Christmas series of films, and it featured the actors who played Kal and Marnie in Halloweentown (who are irl married). also the Avril Lavigne conspiracy was mentioned. neutral · AI labelView post →Enjoying a snow day with Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie. Think watching this movie as a child led me down the path of a mother daughter strained relationship and becoming a control freak when I insist on driving everywhere instead of my husband. 📽️
neutral · AI labelView post →Fine on the Outside by Priscilla Ahn, from When Marnie Was There (2014). I can count on one hand how many songs made me cry like this one did. Same goes for the movie it’s from. Both should’ve won Oscars as horizon concerned.

neutral · AI labelView post →MARNIE still isn't top tier Hitchcock for me but I learn something from every rewatch of a Hitch film. This time, I just KNEW I recognized the actress who played Lil. Turns out it was Diane Baker who, 27 years later, would play Senator Ruth Martin in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.
neutral · AI labelView post →I've already mentioned that the personal nickname Ms. Author acts as a narrator's voice from behind the scenes. The account name "Once there was..." is a classic fairytale opening with a melancholic vibe, referencing the book and Ghibli film When Marnie Was There.
