unlabelledView post →I saw "Man on the Moon" in theaters opening night. In the scene where Jim Carrey says he has cancer, the film cut out. We all thought it was some Andy Kaufman-esque prank and refused to leave the theater. But the projector had actually broken down. It was the best part of the movie.
unlabelledView post →"That was absolutely Kaufmanesque" - me after seeing a comedian who reminded me of the three Kaufman bits I've seen and that Man on the Moon movie.
unlabelledView post →One of my favorite things about the Internet is that every lyrics website has not only decided that the theme song from the TV show Taxi has lyrics, but that they're from the scene in the 1999 film Man on the Moon where Andy Kaufman may have shit his pants
unlabelledView post →Did you know that the film Jim Carrey did after The Truman Show (1998) was a mockumentary on a performance artist? Man on the Moon (1999) is an homage to the life and art of SNL performer Andy Kaufman who faked faking his own death. We’re talking about it on Tues, DM for the link to the film & Zoom

(The song of the same name gave the film its title.) Grammy-nominated song. Listen carefully at minutes 4:09 and 4:26. What do you hear?

unlabelledView post →A visit from Lynn Margulies - Andy Kaufman’s right hand gal who Courtney Love played in “Man on the Moon.” Lynn is out promoting the new Andy doc “Thank You Very Much” & I’m doing a Q&A with the director of that film Alex Braverman at the Royal Theater on Tuesday April 1st 7pm!
unlabelledView post →Roger Ebert was a hero of mine - started reading him when I was 10. He taught me to love Bergman & Altman. So I feel honored that his wife Chaz has invited us to screen “Man on the Moon” on the 25th anniversary of Ebertfest - the film gala Roger founded in Champagne, IL👍 ebertfest.com/films/man-moon
unlabelledView post →#NowSpinning: Oh your favorite artist did a concept album? That's cute... how about a concept trilogy + full-length movie about love & drugs in the city? Been a bit since I've taken Man on the Moon out for a spin, but a rainy day seems perfect. #HipHopSky #VinylSky #MusicSky #KidCudi #ManOnTheMoon

Man on the Moon (Soundtrack). 1999 The follow-up to their hit from 7 years earlier, written for the soundtrack to Milos Forman's film about Andy Kaufman, this one always makes me sing along. I'm breaking through music.youtube.com/watch?v=CzVD...
unlabelledView post →I watched some clips of Man on the Moon because I remember seeing that when I was young before I knew much about Andy Kaufman and god damn did Jim Carrey do the worst Kaufman I've ever seen lmao. no way I'm rewatching that movie

unlabelledView post →Every so often I randomly think about the scene in “Man on the Moon” (a film I’ve seen once, maybe) when Andy Kaufman catches a glimpse of the crystal-healing cancer guru faking it all, and then he starts laughing. Just a great moment of pain + “game recognize game”
unlabelledView post →R.E.M. - "Man On The Moon", referencing Andy Kaufman's cult short film "My Breakfast With Blassie" (1983), itself a parody of the movie "My Dinner With Andre" ❤️ Monopoly, 21 checkers, and chess Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah Mister Fred Blassie in a breakfast mess Yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
unlabelledView post →Going with 🎵Man On The Moon🎵. Fun fact about the movie, both Jim Carrey who plays Andy Kaufman, have their birthdays on January 17th.

unlabelledView post →I was an extra in the film Man on the Moon when I was living in Cali. They told us we should wear "early 80s" clothing, so i wore this shirt pictured here. I'm in the scene in the audience when Lawler breaks Kaufman's neck while wrestling. If ya see a short dude with this shirt on, that's yr boi.
unlabelledView post →I haven’t seen “Man on the Moon” but every now and again social media serves up a clip comparing the movie’s Kaufman/Lawler/Letterman incident to the real one and it’s kind of a bad choice to have the real Lawler and Letterman in the film, at least for Jim Carrey’s use of method.

unlabelledView post →Oh! I double checked Great Beyond but because the movie and song are both titled Man on the Moon, i just assumed. Thanks for the correction, i’m dead serious about cinema trivia 😉 So my submission is just Great Beyond (and the film is pretty good, especially if you’re an Andy Kaufman fan. Sad tho)
unlabelledView post →Of course one half of the award-winning screenwriting duo behind films such as ED WOOD & MAN ON THE MOON has always had impeccable movie taste. If @larrythek.bsky.social is still in the business of booking movie dates, we’re hiring 😆📽️🍿 AC Podcast pilot episode out now!
unlabelledView post →In honor of the 50th of SNL, here is an offering of a sort in a “third degree separation” of said show: an “I got on screen” moment I had as an extra on the recreation of Andy Kaufman’s SNL appearance that was embodied by Jim Carrey for the film “Man on the Moon” (look for the beard in the back.)

unlabelledView post →#7days7songs Week 20 - R.E.M. Day 5 - The Great Beyond (single release) youtu.be/k_JnCWT-_O8?... Of the band’s big friendly pop songs, I think this, The Sidewinder and Imitation of Life are my three favourites. This one gets the pick. Written for The Man On The Moon soundtrack (good film).
unlabelledView post →Man on the Moon (1999) is such an excellent film. In a biopic portraying Andy Kaufman's controversial extents of self-expression & reinvention of the word "entertainment", Jim Carrey captures something deeply human beyond any individual & of every individual in his eyes alone.
unlabelledView post →You know a movie I loved and haven’t watched in years? Man on the Moon.
unlabelledView post →Man On The Moon is a great film #TOTP
unlabelledView post →REM - The Great Beyond, released 1999 as part of the soundtrack to the (only decent) Jim Carrey film Man On The Moon.
unlabelledView post →My contribution to the Grinch discourse (full disclosure: I like the 2000 movie but understand why others hate it, nothing has changed in 25 years) is that the best Christmas/Christmas-adjacent Jim Carrey movie is Man on the Moon, I will not be taking questions at this time.
unlabelledView post →I really enjoyed Man on the Moon, the movie and the song. You'd kill me on movies, music trivia is my thing. Glad to see you back on here!
unlabelledView post →The Great Beyond was only released with the soundtrack, so that is from 1999, but Man on the Moon came out earlier with Automatic (and gave the film it's title)

Starting with the band's one (and only) side tract into (partial) film scoring. 1999's Man on the Moon (Music From the Motion Picture). grumpfox.neocities.org/artists/rem#...
unlabelledView post →I love this movie! Today, I’m going to watch one of those new movies came out a few years ago, “Man On The Moon.” 😄
unlabelledView post →That was Man on the Moon for me. I saw a little bit of Andy Kaufman when I was a kid. I watched that movie and completely understood what someone disappearing into a role was.
unlabelledView post →If you don't know this version of "It Must Be Santa," & like Spike Jones meets Frank Zappa meets Weird Al hilarity, do seek it out. This is the full band version. On YT you'll find a solo keyboard/drum machine version from Cory McAbee/Billy Nayer's short film called "The Man On The Moon." Cont'd.
unlabelledView post →It was such a small thing, but going to see Man on the Moon with a friend. The end credits started, and no one in the theater got up. The kept going. No one got up. There's that mid-credits scene where Kaufman says to go home, the movie is over. No one got up. The credits finished. No one got up.

Filmen: Man On The Moon (fantastisk seff)
unlabelledView post →I was an extra in the Andy Kaufman movie Man on the Moon. I bowled next to the band Mogwai an hour before they played a show. with my sleep disorder, i am incapable of naps & i haven't had one since the mid 90's.
unlabelledView post →An oddball, this initially with the title Man on the Moon Part 2 was on the film soundtrack never appearing on a studio album, although it is on several compilations. Surprisingly, it achieved the bands highest UK chart position at 3. @listigeplaylists.bsky.social open.spotify.com/track/7w57O4...

Truman Show is one of my favourite films ever but you've also got Man on the Moon, Bruce Almighty, The Mask, Liar Liar, I Love You Phillip Morris, The Cable Guy, Me Myself and Irene, Yes Man, the Sonic Films... tons of films basically except Ace Ventura (fuck that film)
unlabelledView post →Great movie. Same guys wrote Ed Wood, Man On The Moon and a good chunk of the OJ Simpson season of American Crime Story. They really nail the idea of making you root for weird people who never usually get movies made about them. And Milos Forman was such a pro
unlabelledView post →'Man on the Moon' hits harder if you've seen the movie. Recommend.
unlabelledView post →Thinking today about Man on the Moon, a movie I had the script of and really loved and proceeded to actively hate the film of because it cut some of the most interesting texture and Jim Carrey was SNL level and which I hate even more knowing it was even more fake than you think thanks to Zmuda

unlabelledView post →I was today years old when I learned that the REM song "Man on the Moon" about Andy Kaufman was not, in fact, written for the Jim Carrey Andy Kaufman movie Man on the Moon
unlabelledView post →2. Man on the Moon Andy Kaufman was a dizzyingly bizarre dude with a whooooole lot of very complex issues. Since this movie was already committed to an R-Rating, more could have been done than portraying him as a slightly toned-down Ace Ventura.

unlabelledView post →IIRC, there was a brief window between "Losing My Religion" and AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE when REM was a pop culture darling. That didn't translate into rock stardom so much as sticking in the popular consciousness long enough for people to get the MAN ON THE MOON reference when that movie came out.
