unlabelledView post →There is Letters from Iwo Jima, which portrays the perspective of the enemy on the island. And then there his ACAB movie, which ends with a disgruntled SFPD detective blowing up his boss with a car bomb (Magnum Force)
unlabelledView post →For my money, JUROR #2 is Eastwood's best movie since LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA. I love a good courtroom drama, there are some nicely tense moments, and strong performances all around. Feels like there should have been a place for a movie like this in wide release.

unlabelledView post →One of my favorite examples of conservative outrage at Hollywood was when they flipped out over Clint Eastwood’s Letters from Iwo Jima. Heaven forbid an American director should make a war movie from the perspective of Japanese soldiers
unlabelledView post →I really gotta see the Clint Eastwood film Hereafter. Also Bridges of Madison County. Also Flags of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima. Perhaps also Blood Work. Maybe The Mule. J. Edgar, possibly. Even Absolute Power, why not

Would I still love to see a character driven piece a-la Eastwood’s ‘Letters From Iwo Jima’ about the last desperate stand of a bunch of Starfleet marines? Definitely. #startrek
unlabelledView post →Eastwood is my answer. Letters from Iwo Jima is a helluva movie, but that chair debate at the RNC 😳
unlabelledView post →They just think war is like a video game. The best scene in a war movie of what war trully is I saw in "Letters from Iwo Jima". On disembarking GIs were randomly and senselessly getting killed. No glorious but senseless butchery.
unlabelledView post →Tried watching Letters from Iwo Jima today only to discover the streaming version has been horrendously dubbed in English with no way to switch the movie to Japanese Absolutely insane and more proof of how important physical media is when streamers pull this shit
unlabelledView post →ugh yeah I can't even imagine I hate Clint Eastwood so much. the only movie I liked of his (at the time) was Letters From Iwo Jima but I haven't seen it in a long time so idk. there's tons of stuff that doesn't live up at all. on the plus side of discovered The Facts of Life & Diff'rent Strokes -

If a person in authority can do that, what’s to stop them from killing a human being?

War: Letters from Iwo Jima (Japanese perspective) - Well-directed gripping action, an interesting depiction of the Japanese mentality without dehumanizing them 2/

unlabelledView post →A couple war movie recs, if he's into that. Kubrick's Paths of Glory. Eastwood's twin bill of Flags of Our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima (subtitled). Of course, Saving Private Ryan, and same year, The Thin Red Line, Terrance Mallick film, so very slow and pretty war (stars Jim Caviezel, been warned)

unlabelledView post →Ken Watanabe's portrayal of General Tadamichi Kuribayashi in Letters from Iwo Jima is honestly a big reason why it's my favorite war movie.
unlabelledView post →I agree. ‘Letters from Iwo Jima’ is a top 10 war movie, in my opinion. 👍
unlabelledView post →2024 film #377 - LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA (2006) - 4/5 Much more interesting than its counterpart film. Giving equal status to the ‘enemy’ side of a war story is rare in film, and I respect Clint Eastwood for doing that here. The *almost*, but not actually B&W cinematography is a technical highlight.

unlabelledView post →I think it was Letters From Iwo Jima. Would’ve been a few years in college then and I remember I was on a long drive back from somewhere, saw a theater, and decided to stop and see a movie just because I could. It was the only movie starting at the time I stopped.
unlabelledView post →Ranking THE CREATOR. Maybe this movie would be good if John David Washington weren't the single most sauceless actor working today. Unfortunately he is, and he makes the film narratively and emotionally empty. It's worse than Letters from Iwo Jima, I tell you what.

unlabelledView post →If Eastwood did nothing else but Unforgiven that would still have been an epic career. “‘Deserve’ has nothing to do with it.” I really need to watch the Japanese remake w/Ken Watanabe. And then there’s Letters from Iwo Jima/Flags of Our Fathers… The Good/Bad/Ugly is also a top 3 film for me!
unlabelledView post →Letters from Iwo Jima (Clint Eastwood, 2006). Excellent war drama, despite washed-out colour, and a satisfying companion film to Flags of Our Fathers. This time, we see the 1945 battle for the Japanese island from the Japanese perspective. Ken Watanabe and Kazunari Ninomiya star. #LettersFromIwoJima
unlabelledView post →I think Letters From Iwo Jima & Flags of Our Fathers are good and missing completely from that list. Band of Brothers isn't a film but always needs a mention. I also like Terence Malick's Thin Red Line. Non-american ones are worth seeking out and watching though. Land of Mine another good danish.

unlabelledView post →Good movie, but after a point it became predictable, and some of the courtroom action seemed extremely implausible. That said, it was technically really quite good, and some of the performances were also memorable. But it certainly doesn’t rank with Flags of Our Fathers or Letters from Iwo Jima.
