60 of 175 · most liked firstIt's okay for a walking simulator sequel, but not as good as the first one. The ship as the setting is nice but not very scary and pretty dull with just opening doors and nothing else to do really. I would wait for a sale if possible. The scariest part is there are NO cats in this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing and painfully confusing I really enjoyed the first Layers of Fear, so I went into Layers of Fear 2 with fairly high expectations. Unfortunately, after about two hours, I found myself completely losing interest. The game feels unnecessarily confusing, with a story that is difficult to follow and gameplay that often feels like wandering around without a clear purpose. The long black-and-white sequences also became very repetitive for me, and the visual effects actually started…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might just be my personal taste, but this time the story didn't really grab me, gameplay was tedious and mouse controls were a real chore in some sequences. I'd say skip this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just love failing multiple times, just to look up a guide, and realize the game is not working as intended and I have been doing everything right the first time. Died 3 times to the monster, despite doing everything right....cool
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear 2 is primarily a horror walking simulator. The experience mostly takes place in very linear environments that often feel like long corridors, with only a few simple and fairly limited puzzles. Where the game really stands out is in its art direction and staging. The environments are often very well crafted, and the way scenes constantly shift and transform can be surprising and unsettling. A dark and oppressive atmosphere is present throughout the adventure, reinforced by strong…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked this game I left 4 years ago, now I wish I hadn’t. What an absolute waste of time. A clumsy, tedious walking sim with pointless dialogue that adds little to the experience. Occasionally a shadow monster appears, running is as slow as walking, and the only way to escape is by opening and closing doors - a process made unbearable by the clunky controls. I died several times simply because of how poorly the rotation mechanics were implemented. And don’t even get me started on the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you loved the first game you might get disapointed. The ambient is a big plus but the game does not deliver fear in the layers. I'd say I felt more like I was in a walking simulator in a David Lynch movie (wich isn't that terrible though) with a confusing story, wich I also somewhat like since you have to think and figure out the story for yourself as you play. The monsters is pretty pointless and just add "puzzle" into the walking simulator. Some parts of the game just feels repetetive and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →𖤐𖤐 There needs to be a neutral option for reviews because I'm on the fence with this one. I don't want to give it a thumbs down because I love the work Bloober Team does and this game is visually fantastic and plays just as good as the first Layers of Fear however I was not interested in the story at all. I found it incredibly boring and overly "artsy" for the lack of a better term. Almost like some sort of pretentious think piece at an indie film festival. Just didn't care for it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY THIS GAME the most recent game in the series "Layers of Fear" (not the one on steam that says 2016) is literally the first game and the second game + more with an overarching story, on its own this is not a good game, and if you plan on playing this game you are wasting your time and money buying this version, just get the newer game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first game better in most aspect. If youre the person who believe that motion sickness is a myth and seizure is urban legend, then try this game. This walking flash bang simulator feel like youre playing with a friend that have remote control while he adjusting brightness and contrast, up and down while your playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is broken, doesnt start up. Shows no errors, it just wont start. Devs don't seem to take issue with this and dont plan on fixing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Door + Hallway simulatorEPIC
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The philosophical concept of this game is good, but the game itself is very boring. I understand that walking simulators are usually linear, but this game is too linear. There is only one path to follow, while every other route is blocked, so there is almost no sense of exploration. You just keep walking straight without thinking. The ending only depends on choosing between two options. At that point, the game might as well just ask me which ending I prefer, bruh. Collecting items is optional…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First playthrough review time. Layers of Fear 2 is a psychological horror game set in strange and shifting environments. The path is mostly linear, but the surroundings often change in unexpected ways. The game includes a few puzzles and item collection, which slowly reveal a dark and unclear story. The story is the strongest part of the game. As the game continues, things become darker and less clear, while the environment also keeps changing in unusual ways. The sound and voice acting help…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Won't run on any of my PCs, and I'm not disabling CPU cores just to run a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked Layers Of Fear. This one not so much. It looks great and runs well, but that's about the only good thing i have to say about it... I encountered a lot of bugs, and in my opinion the story isn't very compelling. Everything else was as expected
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game will no longer start. (apparently it is an issue with unity, and I have read it is possible to fix, but it seems like a pain). Edit: I attempted the fix, but it did not work.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear 2 is a psychological horror experience that leans heavily into cinematic storytelling, surreal environmental design, and the fragile boundary between performance and identity. Developed by Bloober Team, it moves away from the painter-centric madness of the first game and instead places players in the role of an actor aboard a decaying ocean liner, invited to take part in a mysterious and increasingly unsettling film production. From the very beginning, the game makes it clear…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A boring, tedious waste of time. The atmosphere is inferior to the first game's original release.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the first Layers of Fear. This one? I was extremely disappointed in what Bloober created. It’s the biggest pretentious mess I've encountered in a game. Writing, Narration, Storytelling: It's horrendous. It's all over the place and makes very little sense. The best way I can describe this work is "pretentious arthouse." Whoever wrote the narration must have been perpetually drunk because the narration reads like the poetic ramblings of an alcoholic. It doesn't tie to the story…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the original layers of fear is quite good. Unique psychological horror. Now its just generic monsters and 'spooky' environments. There is nothing special about it anymore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fine and definitely worth playing, but yapping.. omg did I learn to hate it. This pile of never ending overly poetic pseudo-intellectual metaphors. Which (bummer) lose any meaning if not tied to something concrete. After the first half it felt even ironic - like the game's main purpose was to confuse you with words as much as it can. So I lost almost any interest in searching for the context of what's happening. I applaud the writers - they truly overdid themselves. The experience…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was just trying to do too much in my opinion. The first game was a hard act to follow, and this one fell short. We are following multiple storylines, and none of them feel particularly interesting. Also, sometimes the game breaks completely. A chase is very... interesting, when you suddenly fall through the floor because it hasn't loaded in yet
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RIP Tony Todd :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ Strong points: - A once again original creation - A beautiful demonstration of psychological horror - Enigmas and situations more varied than its predecessor - Still so tortured - Neat soundtrack and sound design - Weak points: - A ghost train aspect that will not appeal to everyone - Narration sometimes unnecessarily obscure - Choices that we take somewhat by default - The necessary “action” phases - Still some optimization issues Summary: Despite the fact that it struggles…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear 2 is better than 1, and both games are exceptional horror titles. ♥♥♥♥♥♥ fight me bro
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7 hours of game play to finish the play through. There is a game plus mode after you finish, so that you can replay whatever chapter you want and try to discover new things or get a different ending. There are supposed to be three endings. I was happy with my ending. I wont be playing it any more, but I did enjoy the 1st play through enough to recommend the game for those that like this genre. If you liked the first in the series then youll like this. The first game was better IMO, but this one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crashes at start
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm very sorry to say but this game just isn't it. I loved the first game but this one was very boring to me. I have no idea what the story was even supposed to be about. The first game had a wonderful story that you learned about through the game but here I was confused about what was going on and just plopped into it with no context.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually such a funny game because it's (imo) insanely bad at actually scaring you or really... doing anything to you besides making you do that gif of like drake and lil yachty on the best buy pc It like... Runs *ok enough* which is UNUSUAL for Bloober games EXCEPT it has the old game SSL error which means you can't run it on any Intel CPU 10th gen or later, and need to alter a binary variable to actually launch it which slows down your CPU. Think about it. Would you rather get a slower CPU…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of art This game is piece of art. Every detail of this game is gorgeous. Layers of Fear 2 is a game that will resonate most with players who value mood and narrative over mechanics. It offers a carefully crafted journey into a fractured psyche, supported by strong presentation and a willingness to embrace ambiguity. While it may fall short in terms of gameplay depth and sustained tension, it remains a compelling example of how games can function as experiential storytelling. 8/10…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm incredibly disappointed. Not only was the story incomprehensible and much worse than the original, but the end game video once beating the game glitched and just showed a color bar calibration screen. Do not buy this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear 2, a stylish horror set where the director is scarier than the ghosts Layers of Fear 2 feels like you got hired for a lead role you do not remember auditioning for, and now you are trapped on a huge ocean liner where every hallway looks like a film set that forgot how to stay normal. You play as an actor, guided and mocked by an unseen director over speakers, and the game keeps asking one question: are you going to follow the script, or fight it. The ship is the real stage…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it got boring, they took away all that made the original special and added in.... monsters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Note: I have played the first Layers of Fear, but I don't remember it much at all and won't be comparing in any way.) The graphics and sound design are great, a ship is a fantastic setting for a story that I wish more people would utilize, and the game has some very unique imagery in places. That said... Game play wise it's pretty dull. Just a lot of going trough doors, repeating rooms, etc. with the occasional 'scare' sprinkled in to keep your interest. Speaking of scares...It's not very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they try to hard to make it trippy that it ruins the horror and they over complicate the most simplest things so much that it destroys the game. Shame i loved layers of fear 1 but ive tried multiple times to love and appreciate this game and i cant. this game just sucks that bad
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →first off, great atmosphere. other than that it wasn't to my liking. i much enjoyed the first game but this is suited for someone else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't run on Steam Deck despite Valve listing compatibility as playable. Game freezes in the room where you watch the film. This is in the first 10 minutes of starting the game. How did they miss that???
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately cannot recommed. The game is very dull, not scary, story inane and almost abusive with how the narrator never shuts up, environments recycled a riduculous amount, and overall just annoying to play and look at. Don't waste the time; just play Layers of Fear again. This game is just a slog to get through and there's nothing appealing about the story to distract you from the lacklustre gameplay and the dull endless corridors you'll be navigating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Another Horror game I had to fix. This game does NOT start up. At all. Until you do something that someone wrote about in the guide/forums and I thank you kindly for providing such a solution!) Alright hmm well... This game feels much more different than Layers of Fear 1. I don't mean the setting either. It's... It's not the same. I didn't dislike it though. This one takes place on a ship. I don't like it. The interior seemed boring to me and swaying is really great for motion sick…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →more like layers of confusion - its hard to understand the plot. However the "wtf" moments are entertaining and there are some neat unexpected jumpscares :3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first one was better, this one was okay. The story is kinda frustrating to figure out. I give it a thumbs up to motivate the devs to do better.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. Not the worst thing that I've played but tedious nonetheless. It is a walking simulator like part 1 except this time you need to click on objects to progress. Well not always. Sometimes you just need to wait. I swear trying to find where to go next when you simply need to wait is not my idea of fun. And most of the time you walk along a corridor with everything locked except one door in case you thought you could explore as you wish(you can't). Not to mention that there is a creature…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's absolutely as depressing as the previous game, but I find it scarier. They once again made it a beautifully tragic piece of art. The storyteling, choces that have to be made. Graphics are nice, the game did craqh on me 2 times though. For anyone who's played the first game, this is just as soul gripping and generally amazing. I truely recommend it for anyone that loves the horror (storytelling) genre

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has to be the greatest horror game I have ever played. Layers of Fear 2 took the concepts and ideas from its predecessor and improved upon them in every possible way. Cinematic scenes, a cryptic and also very symbolic story line, much room for interpretation and speculation, deep themes, scary jumpscares, interesting riddles, very immersive gameplay, great voice acting, amazing lighting, you have all of those aspects at their best and that's not even everything Layers of Fear 2 excells at.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Layers of Fear 2 (LoF2), an adiovisual masterpiece. Play the lead role in a film and discover your past, or someone else's? Who are you exactly? Is it really a play? Are you in a loop? Who's the story really about? So many questions. Will they get answered? Who knows. Allright, that was vague. In the original LoF1, you knew exactly who you were and - for most part - what happened. This one, however, is left open to interpretation. Especially if you figure out how to get all endings. And i…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most profound and layered (pun not intended) I have ever had with a video game. For those who like to derive deeper meaning from entertainment mediums, this is a treasure trove of experience and design which has, in my opinion, not been matched. It is not as easy to process as the original Layers of Fear, let alone Observer or any other game I've played like this.My only complaint is that this game features a "monster" with sequences where you must run away, and if you get caught it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing *Layers of Fear 1*, I decided to play this game afterward because I really enjoyed the first game. There are many things I could say about this game, but first, let’s start with the pros. **Pros:** The overall surroundings feel much more realistic and are a major upgrade compared to the first game. As usual, the environments are visually stunning and do a great job of keeping you immersed in your surroundings. The atmosphere is also well done and fits the horror experience very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the og Layers of Fear but this is still a masterpiece. We need more horror games like this, MORE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More or less the same experience you got from LoF1. If you liked the first one you probably won't be too disappointed with this one. Has several chase scenes unlike the 1st one, but nothing that'd prevent you from progressing, if you're wanting more of a Walking Sim You can also completely turn treats of death off. Worth at least one playthrough. There's worse ways to waste a Doobie I suppose.
