Lars and the Real Girl
Extremely shy Lars finds it impossible to make friends or socialize. His brother and sister-in-law worry about him, so when he announces that he has a girlfriend he met on the Internet, they are overjoyed. But Lars' new lady is a life-size plastic woman. On the advice of a doctor, his family and the rest of the community go along with his delusion. From TMDB

I dunno how I missed that film, because it is perfect and feels like it was made in a lab for just me. I'm just now finally seeing Lars And The Real Girl. Excellent performance. This guy has so much range!
unlabelledView post →LARS AND THE REAL GIRL is a movie where everyone in a community has to politely pretend Ryan Gosling’s “companion” is real and not anything other than an overtly obscene blow-up doll he has tailored to his peculiar specifications and i think about it a lot lately
unlabelledView post →I wrote about masculinity again. This time about a movie about the nicest gentlest kindest man. …And how the world has broken my brain and I can’t process Lars and the Real Girl anymore. open.substack.com/pub/danielle...
unlabelledView post →Just re-watched this great old Ryan Gosling film "Lars And The Real Girl" It's sweet, funny and incredibly moving in places And I can really relate to it as well RS
unlabelledView post →Cinematographer Adam Kimmel (Foxcatcher, Capote, Lars and the Real Girl) festivalreviews.org/2025/07/14/c... I was 18 when I trained on Raging Bull and it was my second film in that capacity so my experience and perspective were still pretty limited. So yes, of course I knew Martin Scorsese
unlabelledView post →i'm excited for the new supergirl movie i'm not going to see it, i have absolutely no interest in any super hero movies, but for every few big franchise movies Craig Gillespie does he does something like Lars and The Real Girl or I, Tonya maybe this will let him do something more interesting next

Here the Times apparently couldn't find anyone to say an unkind word about Byron Noem. (See also the 2007 film "Lars and the Real Girl.")
unlabelledView post →In one million guesses I would not have guessed that our parish Theology and Film night would pick Lars and the Real Girl (2007) but such is life
unlabelledView post →Shout out to @savantgardepod.bsky.social for convincing me to finally pull the trigger on Lars and the Real Girl. It was a very sweet movie!
unlabelledView post →Tonight's date night movie is Lars and the Real Girl, bc I've been wanting to watch this for years (even before suddenly deciding as of late that maybe I really like Ryan Gosling)
unlabelledView post →Is this a safe space to say that my favorite Ryan Gosling movie is "Lars and the Real Girl" (I don't consider Barbie to be a Ryan Gosling movie in this case since he's not the star, and I think he'd agree 🫶)
unlabelledView post →Been following Craig Gillespie from film to film since Lars and the Real Girl. With each project, I get more and more impressed by his range as a director. Cannot wait to see what he does in the DC realm, especially with folks like Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa and Eve Ridley on the roster!

unlabelledView post →Schitt’s Creek for TV and, strange as it may be, Lars and the Real Girl for a movie. Both have the kind of loving communities I wish all people could experience.
unlabelledView post →Every now and again I think of my copy of Lars and the Real Girl that has a sticker on it saying something like ‘a hilarious laugh riot!’ What kind of person doesn’t watch that film and think it’s about painful crushing chronic loneliness. How mentally well do you have to be to think it’s funny?
unlabelledView post →It was Lars and the Real Girl for me. The rare film liked by both me and the amicable ex.

unlabelledView post →Yesterday I learned that the director of the SUPERGIRL movie directed LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, so I'm using that as an excuse. (It'll make sense if you read the post and have seen that movie or a least know what it's about.)
unlabelledView post →LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (2007) kind of turned out to be the most prophetic movie ever, huh. Lars turning to a facsimile of a relationship because he’s unable to face the trauma from a neglected childhood and the alienation inherent to modern life.
unlabelledView post →Lars and the Real Girl [70] is on Prime Video: www.metacritic.com/movie/lars-a... #11pmspecial "Gosling's performance is a small miracle, not only because he's so completely open as a man who's essentially shut off, but because he changes & grows so imperceptibly before our eyes." - WaPo
unlabelledView post →LARS AND THE REAL GIRL holy shit. it’s hard to find words for how much this movie impacted me. a world in which society is actually supportive of an autistic adult who processes grief in his own way. if you were gonna watch any movie from my thread please let it be this one (more in qrp)

unlabelledView post →there are interesting parallels/contrasts to the movie Lars and the Real Girl, which is actually a delight, as odd as the premise is. no spoilers, but if you have seen it, it is interesting to think about the ways in which this situation goes differently and why.
unlabelledView post →I watched Lars and the Real Girl a few days ago. For the first time, and ya know what? It’s a sad fucking movie. I thought it was gonna be tongue and cheek… and while it did have some awkwardly funny moments. It was actually a rather serious movie.
unlabelledView post →This is such a good movie (Lars and the Real Girl)
unlabelledView post →I can second that Lars and the Real Girl is def worth a watch. It was not the film I was expecting, which was actually a good thing. (Also for those without Paramount+ it's available for free on Kanopy, for those with a library card.)
